SharePoint 2010 search error - Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked fo

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I've come across an error with SP2010 standard search a few times now.  The error message is "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", and it happens when "SearchService.svc" is accessed by SP Search.  I have seen this error on my dev environment, test environment and a client's UAT environment.  The resolution is a reboot of the server, but that's obviously far from ideal.  I've tried to restart all SharePoint related services too without any luck.  This error doesn't seem to occur regularly, and can take days before it happens after a reboot.

The full error message is below:

Error creating Read Item or Read List operation in Sharepoint Designer 2010

In terms of high-level requirements, I need to pull in lists from a couple of different web apps.  To do this, I’m using SPD 2010 to create an External Content Type for the list of interest.  I’m able to create a SOAP Service or WCF Service connection just fine.  However, when I try to create the external content type and create a Read Item Operation on one of the GetList or any other Get* (or other Update methods for that matter) methods, I get the following error:"The method that your operation is based on has parameters with complex types that do not have default parameterless constructor.  This kind of data source methods cannot be used in Business Data Catalog."I tried defining an operation on the “AddAttachment” method, and that worked just fine.  I also tried providing default values to the listName and viewName parameters when creating the SOAP Service connection, but still get the error.  Same issue with a WCF Service connection as well. Does anyone know if this is a 2010 issue, or am I approaching this requirement incorrectly?  What are other approaches for connecting to lists that reside in a different web app than yours?

SharePoint 2010 search crawl error: The SharePoint item being crawled returned an error when request

SharePoint 2010 search crawl error:
The SharePoint item being crawled returned an error when requesting data from the web service. ( Error from SharePoint site: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. )

This error is for both document and folder. The document and folder were created/uploaded via SharePoint User Interface only. Later these doc/folder were deleted. And we found the search result showing the documents that were deleted from the doc library resulting in '404 page not found error' upon clicking. Ofcourse we did an incremental crawl after  deleting the file/folder. The error is same even after full crawl.

Environment details:
1 server - WFE role
1 server - App server role
1 server - index server role

Another information if helpful: We used some third party tool to migrate few sample data in the same server but on different site collection, different content database but on the same web application. The tool migrated the data and set unique permissions too for the migrated files. We tried deleting them via SharePoint interface and that files too gave a similar error!

SharePoint 2010 Search Error ID 6398

Hi

we have installed Sharepoint 2010 on a single server non-domain server following this article: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112 and we are now have issues with the search- whether they are related or not I am not sure. We have got to a point where we really do not want to reinstall Sharepoint so really need to try and find a solution to this. Any help gratefully received. Here is the log:

SharePoint Enterprise Search 2010 Error

Hi All,

We have two server farms:

1. MOSS 2007 Server Farm having Web application and its pages and content

2. SharePoint 2010 Farm having Enterprise Search 2010 with one Web Application using Search Template

We are trying to crawl the MOSS 2007 web application, which on a separate farm from the SharePoint 2010 box. We created the Search Service Application, Web Application and have associated the Web Application with the Search Service Application.

We have provided the scopes for searching the MOSS 2007 Web Application for its content and pages and also provided separate scope for searching people from the MOSS 2007 box using the appropriate SPS2/STS3 protocol.

We have also made a change in the Search Settings of the MOSS 2007 Site Collection to redirect the search to the SharePoint 2010 box, when any user uses the Search box of MOSS 2007. This works perfectly well.

Appropriate read-only rights have been given to the web application using the Central Administratoin web application policy.

The only issue we have is, when a user tries to visit the search results pages on the SharePoint 2010 box, and when displaying the search result, SP 2010 box hits MOSS 2007 box  to fetch the require data and displays pop-up box for Authentication.

Is there anyway, where we can supress the Authentication

SharePoint Enterprise Search 2010 Error

There are two issues here

1. As mentioned by ram, we have two boxs [MOSS 2007 and SP 2010 for Enterprise Search] so when user clicks search from MOSS 2007 site it is redirected to SP 2010 box and while redirecting to SP 2010 box it displays Authentication popup. Is there any way we can supress this Auth

SharePoint 2010 backup is failing - Error - "Unable to read full interval from database - Operation

Hi,

I am having a problem backing up a site collection, when trying to backup the collection I get the following error "Unable to read full interval from database" and "operation is not valid due to the current state of the object".

The backup does run and manages to backup 182MB of the site collection and then the backup fails, it fails at the same point what ever backup method I use e.g. STSADM, Powershell or Central Admin.

I'm getting the same error whether I use CA "granular backup" or "Farm backup", and using either STSAMD or Powershell. I can backup CA or the mysite collection but not the Home Portal site collection. I even tried installing the commuvaults 2010 agents and running a commuvault backup but this is also failing. i have included the log file entry below.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to either fix the problem or an alternative way to backup the collection or farm, I am currently taking a full SQL backup but am not sure how reliable this is as I haven't tried to restore the sites.

P.S. I am not using the "UseSQLSnapshot" parameter.

Adding Search Refinements in SharePoint 2010

I have been playing around with SharePoint 2010 Search this morning. I love the new UI. The search refinements panel is just begging to be messed with. In my case I wanted to add the file extension JPG as an Image Type refiner.

WCF Tracing Error: An operation was attempted on a nonexistent network connection

I setup WCF service tracing because 1 client out of about 30 wasn't able to finish the connection to the server. After setting up test case on that client, the WCF trace report gave me these exceptions:     An operation was attempted on a nonexistent network connection and then     The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request I found this MSDN question and solution that applies to Windows 2000 Server and Terminal Services and offers a hotfix to fix the issue. I'm using Windows 2003 Server, so the hotfix doesn't apply to me. Does anyone know what is happening to this 1 client while the other 29 connect just fine? The client returns this exception when trying to open the connection to the server:     An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://endpointaddress/. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.
