moss 2007 for intranet ,publishing portal with collaboration portal subsite or other way.

Hi All, We are planning to use moss 2007 for our intranet. Mainly we want to use it for collaboration purpose (i think collaboration portal is the appropriate template as root site). but in future if the company want publishing portal can i have it under collaboration portal or should i choose now itself the root site as publishing portal  and then create collaboration portal as sub site to meet our needs. can some one shed light on how to proceed and pros/ cons . Cheers, Friend.

Turn on publishing programmatically when a subsite is created

I have a Site Collection with Publishing Site Template. I would like to have the publishing turned on automatically whenever a non-publishing subsite is created. Upon searching, I found there are two options. one with site definition and another with feature stapler.

I am new to .NET coding. Any code references to implement the above solution would be helpful.

Publishing subsite inside Team site

Hi All,

I have a publishing site as root site and I have 4 subsites under it with Team site template.

I would like to create a new subsite in one of the team site template subsites.

When I create a publishing site, the site was created with the publishing feature on but looks like it still retained the team site layout (with the left side quick launch navigation). Is it possible to create a actual publishing site under team site in this scenario?

Thanks in advance!

Publishing SQL Server Database using Publishing Wizard : Tips & Tricks

We can use SQL Server Publishing Wizard to deploy our local Database to remote hosting server/production server. This feature is available in SQL Server 2008/VWD 2008.

Below is the complete step by step guide of this process.

"Type ASP.x is not defined" error for dynamic user control when publishing updateable

I have a user control (ContainerCtrl) which programmatically instantiates another user control (SimpleCtrl) in OnLoad. It builds and runs fine, but when I publish it I get the error "error BC30002: Type 'ASP.SimpleCtrl' is not defined." (If I publish without the "updateable" option there's no error, but I need the site to be updateable.)

I assume this has to do with the particulars of how the assembly(ies) are built for the different compiler options. My question is, how can I get it to work properly for "updateable" publishing?

VS 2008 / .NET 3.5 sp1

The code follows (web.config is the default from Visual Studio).

Many thanks, Dave

<%@ Control Language="VB" ClassName="SimpleCtrl" CodeFile="SimpleCtrl.ascx.vb" Inherits="_SimpleCtrl" %>

    Simple control

Partial Class _SimpleCtrl
    Inherits UserControl

    'Nothing to see here.

End Class

<%@ Control Language="VB" CodeFile="ContainerCtrl.ascx.vb" Inherits="_ContainerCtrl"

UH-OH! i turned Simple Publishing On - How do i turn it Off?

I have recently deployed a site, where i turned Simple Publishing On in my sitedefinition.

The reason why i turned it On was to get rid of the approval workflow which my client did not need.

However it appear that not only the approval workflow was removed, but also the scheduling feature - therefore i will have to turn it Off again.

It will be easy for me to deploy a new sitedefinition, whith the SimplePublishing set to Off, but a lot of sites has allready been created using the "On" version.

I was thinking about making a small application that enumerated my Webs collection to accomplish that - but i cannot find what properties to use.

Does anybody know how to do this? Or even better - know if there is a way to make a simpler approval workflow?

Browsing libraries from different subsite

Two anonymous subsites. Contributor in subsite A needs to browse pages library in subsite B using link asset picker.  Do I need to add subsite A contributor to subsite B permission list?

If I have 50 subsites.  Now I create a new subsite and the contributor in the new subsite needs to browse all other subsites library.  Do I need to add him to all other 50 subsites?

how do i create a webpart for sharepoint 2010 that allows users to create their own subsite..

how do i create a webpart for sharepoint 2010 that allows users to create their own subsite..

How do I search a SUBSITE using the spsearch Web service in WSS 3.0?

I have figured out how to access the spsearch web service API, and created a query packet like this:

<QueryPacket xmlns='urn:Microsoft.Search.Query'>

However, it's returning results for my home collection.  I need a way to filter for any sub-site collection.  Is this possible?  I have been searching for a couple hours and so far have no clue.  I have tried entering other parameters inside the QueryText field as I see them on my actual SharePoint search, but this method does not work here.

This is not for a "getlistitems" call.  I am calling "spsearch" using the "query" or "queryex" action.  Thanks.
