Tiff iFilter

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Having recently tried setting up the TIFF iFilter on our test environment; I wanted to know if anyone has got this to work?

We have added the feature on the server and installed the Windows 2003 Index role; deleted the search index and performed multiple crawls, as mentioned in this link here

We also have tried enabling the OCR feature as mentioned here none of the above has provided us with any returns; so I come to you to ask; can it be done; if so what do we need to do to activate it?

Rendering a report in TIFF at 300ppi

It's amazing to me that something that should be so simple has already eaten up nearly a day. This URL : //s0550284/ReportServer?/ERecordingReports/Report1&rs:Format=IMAGE&rc:DpiX=300&rc:DpiY=300&rc:PageHeight=11in&rc:PageWidth=8.5in&rs:Command=Render Should cause a report to be rendered as TIFF at 300ppi with a page size of 8.5 x 11. Instead, what I get is a TIFF image file at 96ppi with some rediculously large page size. If I try the same URL without the page size limiters, I get exactly the same results. There seems to be absolutely no way to get the reporting engine to diverge from it's default 96ppi setting. Changing the values in the configuration files has no effect. It's as if the 96ppi value was accidentally hardcoded in the web service interface somewhere and not subject to override. Has anyone had any success trying to change the image density? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! I'm running SSRS 2008 R2. Regards, -Tom

SSRS 2005: Export to Excel, Tiff, and web archive all fail

SSRS Export to Excel is popular in our office but has been failing a lot recently- at the beginning of the year there were a few occurances a month until June, then they steadily increased until now it is nearly every time (44% of the events happened this month.)  Few software changes (just MS and virus def updates) No configuration changes until troubleshooting this issue began.  Policy changes on both server and clients is possible as that is controled by contractors and we are not notified of changes.

Upon exploring I discovered export to tiff and web archive also fail, but csv, PDF, and xml seems to work most of the time.   Some of the reports failing have not had any design changes in months.  Reports are not particularly large- 2 to 4 tables with under 200 rows each.  No more than 6 pages and then mostly because of page breaks between tables.  no more than 5 levels of drill down- most have fewer than that.  The failure happens very fast- about 4 seconds.  If the data is filtered down to very small sets so that the export process can complete inside those 4 seconds then it succeeds.

I have seem many questions on lots of forums with similar issues with SSRS but no solutions that worked for me.  All the timeout values I know of (about 6?) are set to between 120 and 3600 seconds.  None of my reports sh

PDF iFilter

2 questions:

1. Do I need to install the Adobe iFilter on each server in the farm, or just the server running the Search service?

2. If I am going to be using FAST Search, do I need to install the Adobe iFilter?  Or does it come with FAST?

Thanks!

pdf icon not appearing in search results after installing Adobe PDF IFilter 9

Hi

I have installed the IFilter using these instructions:

http://www.adobe.com/special/acrobat/configuring_pdf_ifilter_for_ms_sharepoint_2007.pdf

This was useful too -

http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/SharePoint/microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver/2008-11/msg00009.html>

I had to manually add the pdf file type to the File Types List.

PDFs in Doc Libraries are now displaying with the PDF icon but not PDFs returned in Search results

There are no duplicate entries in the DOCICON.xml

Instead they are listed with Word icons

Any ideas?

Cheers

XP x64 issue with large tiff files

I've got some code which opens and processes a large tiff file (a bit over 2GB with around 1000 frames in).

This works fine on Windows 7 x64 but fails with an overflow error on XP x64.

Other software (including the windows image browser) has no such problem.

Is there something I can do to make my WPF code cope with larger files in XP x64?

 using (Stream instream = new FileStream(sourcePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read))
{
  TiffBitmapDecoder tiffInDecoder = new TiffBitmapDecoder(instream, BitmapCreateOptions.PreservePixelFormat, BitmapCacheOption.None);
...
}

System.Drawing.Image.FromFile crashes for tiff files on 64bit system

The following pice of code runs fine on my development machine (win7, 32bit) but ends with Exception on the server (Win2008R2, 64bit).

        static void Main(string[] args)

        {

            Image image = Image.FromFile(args[0]);

            Console.WriteLine(image.Size.ToString());

        }

The exception will be thrown for TIFF files (from other sources) but ie not for PNG files.

I was wondering why the test program above works fine on my Win 32bit machine with .NET 4 but not on my 64bit machine with .NET 4.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.
