SSP problem: This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am facing some problem in SharePoint 2007 SSP. Actually I have restored the SSP databases (SSP db and SSP search DB) on the development environment using SQL database restore option. After the restore, I have used Restore SSP option to create a new SSP and mapped the restored SSP DB and search DB. The SSP restore operation was succeessful but when I try to navigate to Search setting in the newly created SSP it is giving me the error that "This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site. " The same error messages is coming for some other links as well in same SSP.

Can somebody guide me how to solve this problem?

Customized sharepoint portal is not accessible to normal users unless a site admin access the site o

Hello there

I have created a sharepoint portal and customized it. I have created my own master page and there are many webparts implemented. This has been hosted in a MOSS server. When a normal user is trying to access the portal first thing in the morning, he is getting a "You are not authorized to view this page" error. But when a site admin access the site, there is no issue and he is able to access the site. The site admin does nothing in the site and once he has logged in to the site,  the user is able to access the site without any trouble.

I have tried to look into the master page gallery and has given full access to the users for "Style Resource Readers" user group. Even now the user is facing the same issue.

Kindly help in this regards,

Web Site Admin Tool problem in VS2005

When I create a new project and try to use the WSAT security tab, I get the following :

There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database.

I am using VS2005 beta2 with a local copy of SQL Server Express.

I am new to all of this so a little help would be great

Deployment problem - Saving your changes will customize a page from the site definition - what does

I have created a customized report viewer web part which is a subclass of Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.UI.WebParts.ReportViewerWebPart. This component works perfectly well when I use it to build web part pages but is causing problems when I try to deploy pages from one site to another. I have isolated the problem as follows:

1. Create a new web part page and add my control. Assign it a SSRS report and test - everything works!

2. Go into SharePoint designer and edit the web part page making any change - this includes adding and then removing a character so that the page is EXACTLY THE SAME as originally created through the SP site. Save the page and you will be prompted:

"Saving your changes will customize a page from the site definition. Are you sure you want to do this?"

Reply yes and re-open the page in the site and the web part now throws an error.

OK - so the page aspx code is exactly the same as it was originally so what does "Saving your changes will customize a page from the site definition" actually do and why does SPD think it needs to make this change?

I am hoping that if I understand this I will be able to work out how to fix my web part to deploy successfully!

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

WebDev.WebServer.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close when trying to view page in browser

Hi, whenever I load an aspx page in vwde2008, I get the message in the subject of this post.  After I click Ok on that, I get a dialog box, Unable to Connect to the ASP.Net development center.  What can I do to troubleshoot?

I am using Windows XP SP3, vwde2008 with SP1, on a HP desktop.  Also using Office 2003 if that is relevant at all.

Thanks, Justin

Master Pages: Master Your Site Design with Visual Inheritance and Page Templates

Master pages in ASP.NET 2.0 solve a problem many Web developers have been solving on their own with a variety of techniques for years - providing a single master template for an entire site. This article covers the details of master pages, discussing their usage and implementation and how they are a natural evolution of custom techniques developers are using today.

Login page for whole site

Hi all,

I've been searching and trying to get this now for hours, so i though i'd come here.

For my website, there will be an admin site. I want to create users in my website database, i have a logins table with a hashed password column. The problem i have is making sure that every request if not already logged in send the user to the login page.

I have a page Login.aspx which i have created, but if i enter http://website/admin/news.aspx it bypasses the login screen and shows the page!!

Does anyone know how i can do this? i have created Login.aspx myself and verified that the username and password enetered are correct.

My site link on my home page.

One of the user got My owa link in place of my site on the my home page ( go to my site --> my home --> top right corner shows My owa insead of my site ) and he wants to edit that my owa link now. first of all i dont know how he got that My owa link in the place of my site on my home page. When he surfs any other page than he is getting my site on all other pages. so he is just getting My owa link in place of my site only on the my home page.

At the first glanse, i think it would be master page issue but if that would be the case than it shold apply all the users but this is happening just for one user and we are not using custom master page.

Please help.

How to create a single entry page for site collections in MOSS 2007

I have  7 site collections containing a few hundred team collaboration sites. Some users are internal (intranet) but most are external (extranet). Extranet users are experiencing problems with losing links to their sites and forgetting which URLs to use. So I would like to create a single entry page that all users can enter after the logon process, which shows a list of sites they have permission to access, and other user-specific information. Perhaps relevant documents, tasks, recently modified documents etc.

I know this sounds like a 'My Site' but we want to use use a general welcome page instead. We use Windows authentication.
What is the best way of doing this and is it something that can be done in SharePoing Designer or does it need to be done in Visual Studio?

Many thanks in advance.

Apply custom.master to "Site Settings" page?

I'm using a custom.master page, which is applied to almost all pages available to READ users.

However, I'd like to apply it to the Search, Site Settings, and View All Site Content pages.

I'm not sure where this would be applied.

Guidance much appreciated. Thanks!

Sharepoint 2007 - Wiki site - New Pages Not Inheriting Custom Master Page

I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not showing the miniconsole.

When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.

How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?

SharePoint 2007 Central Admin - blank page, isapimodule error in IIS

I've got a Windows 2008 SP2 server runing x64.

When i try to access the SharePoint Central Admin site, I just get a blank page. No errors in the Windows logs, nothing showing up in the SharePoint logs. The IIS log shows a 500 error.

I enabled Failed Request Tracing for the 500 status code, which gives me the following information:

ModuleName IsapiModule

Notification 128

HttpStatus 500

HttpReason Internal Server Error

HttpSubStatus 0

ErrorCode 2147942593

Adding a custom ASP page to a sharepoint 3.0 site

I have a custom ASP page that I need to add to my sharepoint 3.0 web site.  I created a virtual directory under my website and placed the ASP file.  When I link to the ASP file, I get a 404 page not found.  To make sure I had the correct URL path, I created a test html file and placed in the same virtual directory and linked to it just fine.  I think it has something to do with managed paths and sharepoint trying to control this new ASP content.  I cannot figure out how to exclude this content from managed paths.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue so I can run this custom ASP file under sharepoint 3.0?

Web Site Admin Tool - cannot establish connection

I have a question with this tool.  I have a database listed in the App_folder, and the database has a connection in Server explorer.  The connection string is listed in the web.config file, and I am able to add users and roles with the Web Admin Tool.  However, when in the Web Admin Tool, under Configuration tab, I receive an error when I click on the "test" button.  The error reads

" Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."

How can this be, and how do I correct this?

Problem with master page and update panel (I think)

the app I am working with is made up of three nested master pages that have the following design:

The first master page ha only realize the HEADER, BODY and FOOTER divs.

The second one specialize the Body content placeholder and divide it in three more layers: NAVIGATOR, PAGE TITLE, BODY CONTENT.

The final layer specialize the BODY CONTENT in PAGE CONTENT and ACTIONS.

In one of my content pages I have (inside the PAGE CONTENT area)

  • 1 Update Panel that contains a gridview object
  • 1 Update Panel that contains some HTML code to show in a PopupModalExtender

The PopupModalExtender can be either triggered from inside the gridView and also from a series of LinkButtons that are in the ACTIONS area.

The problem is that when the PopupModalExtender shows the FOOTER and the ACTIONS areas are not dimmed from the style I apply as background to the modal popup. An example of what I am trying to explain can be viewed in the following screenshot.

Why this is going to happen? Has anybody any suggestion on how to solve this problem?

Thanks a lot

Programmatically Hide Master Pages from Site Master Page Settings page?

I know there is a field you can check when you edit the properties of a Master Page in the Master Page Gallery to set a Master Page to hidden but ... can anyone think of a way to programmatically hide specific Master Pages from the Site Master Page Settings page?

Maybe this should be two questions:

  1. How do I programmatically access a Master Page in a Master Page Gallery?
  2. Is there a property that can be set that will hide the page from the Site Master Page Settings page?
