error message customization in create user wizard, change password wizard

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi All,

Create User Wiard and Change Password Wizard contain error message literals. They display error messages when a user is trying to sign up with an username that already exists and so on.

These error messages are pre-set. How can they be customized. In particular, how can they be adjusted depending on the language.

How is this usually best achieved?

Thanks a lot.

i am using create user wizard and capturing other information within content template when a new user

registers. Some of the textboxes are binded to required field validators.

there is a validation control on the page and ShowMessage box is True.

If they dont complete some of the text boxes then the message box pops Up with the error message.

It does not however include information errors like "User already exists" or Email address already exists

from the create user wizard membership  UserName and Password Textboxes

is it possilbe to hook all of these up so I get one message box with all errors including membership ones?

form feild hints are not displaying for textboxses inside create user wizard?

I'm using following JS code to display input hint box besides the textbox whenever that asp.net textbox receives focus.

I'm doing this for a registration form and all of the textboxes are inside the asp.net create user wizard control.

<script type="text/javascript">
function addLoadEvent(func) {
  var oldonload = window.onload;
  if (typeof window.onload != 'function') {
    window.onload = func;
  } else {
    window.onload = function() {

function prepareInputsForHints() {
	var inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("TextBox");
	for (var i=0; i<inputs.length; i++){
		// test to see if the hint span exists first
		if (inputs[i].parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0]) {
			// the span exists! on focus, show the hint
			inputs[i].onfocus = function () {
				this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "inline";
			// when the cursor moves away from the field, hide the hint
			inputs[i].onblur = function () {
				this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "none";

file upload in Create User Wizard Created User event with UpdatePanel Tag wont work?

In my Create User Wizard1 Created User Wizard Event, I am collecting extra information from text boxes and allowing

the user to uplad a file.

I have put the Submit button within an Update Panel Tag but since I have done this it does not work.

Is there a way round it. In this situation would you use a trigger.?

Collecting extra information using Create User Wizard

 I am trying to collect extra information about a user when the user account is created using the Create User Wizard. This info will be stored in a new table in the standard ASP membership SQL database. I have read several books and loads of online tutorials on the subject and they all take different approaches and seem to make the process hard work. Is there any reason why I can't add an SQL datasource and a number of textboxes  to the wizard step, 'connect' the values from the textboxes to the Insert Parameters and then put an Insert Statement in a suitable event handler to cause the insert? If this is possible what would be the best (ie simplest) way to 'connect' the textboxes to the insert parameters?   Regards Andy

Trying to Create New user with Create User Wizard and getting name already exists! ??

hi, I am using a create User Wizard for registering a user and have converted it to a  a template to capture additional information.  In the CreatedUserEvent handler in Code Behind I  am getting the UserName of the new user and their unique GUID key. This is then added to a seperate data table with addditional info captured from the user. The textboxes within the create user Wizard have validation controls. If the user has missed an entry these fire and it shops the process of creating the user. BUT  If I then complete the textboxes and then click submit it says the USER NAME already Exists! This is not what I want as the User just needs to correct the errors in the form and they should be able to keep their iniital User Name choice. Do I need to change the Event handler and if so am I still able to capture the USerName and Key so that I can add the data to the other non membership table. any examples / advice most helpful thanks   P

Tab order in create user wizard

I have as 2 step create user wizard.  The second step collects shipping information.  I use a custom control for gathering the shipping information.  I have tabindexes set up, but the wizard always sets focus to the button instead of the next text box.  How can I change the tabindex of the button?

inserting data to Users Table in ASPNETDB from Create User Wizard

When a user starts a membership using the Create User wizard supplied by the aspnetdb profile service, I need to add a field to a table in aspnetdb and upon clicking the ContinueButtonClick insert some data.  The field I'll add is "SubscId".  My first question is what table is best for this - Users or Membership?

Secondly, what is the best way to insert new data for this scenario?  code behind?  markup?  Can someone provide basic syntax of insert code in code behind for this scenario?

Create User Wizard with Captcha

Hi ,

I am using create user wizard, I want before creating user it should be verified with Captcha. I downloaded plugin from captcha's website & it works all fine without Create User Wizard. What I want is when user enter standard values like user name, password, email, security question & answer, then it should also verify captcha image on same page. I added captcha control on createuser wizard by Customizing create user step. Now my Create user wizard is having 7 fields viz 1. user name, 2. password 3.confirm password, 4. Email 5. Security Question 6. Answer & 7. Captcha control. First 6 fields are validated by ASP.NET & for validating Captcha image. Page.IsValid method is required. I written this method in my code behind (C#) but I dont know how to call this method for verification. I tried  OnCreatedUser but it wont work neither OnCreatingUser. Please suggest how can I call method for to check Page.IsValid or not using Create User Wizard.

Below is the method I want to call before creating user  :

 protected void Submit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

if (Page.IsValid) {

Label1.Text = "Success";

Create User Wizard and Profiles

Good Morning.

I am developing a site that uses the CreateUserWizard to allow a User to create a new account.  This account is not authorized until I approve it and therefore does not automatically log the user in at that point, but there are two steps to the Wizard.  The first step requests the standard account information: Username, Password, Confirm Password, EMail, Security Question and Security Answer.  The second step asks for personal information common to a GuestBook or Forum: First Name, Last Name, Home Town, Home State, Website Address, and Signature.  Upon completion, it sends an EMail to the new User with their information.

On ActiveStepChanged, we determine if we are on the Completed step and then perform some additional functions, such as adding the User to the Members Role.  It then gets the personal information from the TextBoxes in Step Two and saves them to variables.  A Profile is created using the ProfileCommon.Create Function and the appropriate values are stored in the Profile.  The Profile is then saved.

The final step, and I haven't been able to determine where exactly this occurs in the process, is that an EMail is sent to the new User with their information using the SendingMail Event.  In this event, I get the Username from the CreateUserWizard and load the MembershipUser.&nb

Error when configuring Report Server Database - Wizard is trying to create Database on a non existen

I'm trying to setup SSRS using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.  Everything seems to be working except the database creation.  When I click on the Database (3rd option down) then Change Database I run through the wizard.  Put in proper SA credentials.  Accept the defaults clicking next through and when it gets to running the script to create the data base I get the Error I pasted below.  We do not have a G drive so I went into SSMS and changed the Default Database settings to point to the F drive (where our other DBs reside) - I got that tip off of this forum but it didn't fix my issue. Any ideas what to try next?  Do I need to stop and restart a service or something?  Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

How to develop a Create Site Wizard

When you create a new site in a SharePoint site collection, you get the first screen where you enter the site name, description, choose a site template etc. How can I develop a similar screen where I give users ore options to enter other information such as entering the name of default documents library, default list etc.?

I have created a custom site template that contains a document library with some preloaded documents, a task list with predefined tasks etc. My manager has asked me to develop a wizard like page that allows a user to create a site by selecting this custom template and entering a document library and task list name of their choice. There are some business reasons/logics behind all this, but I am just presenting a simpler version here to get me going.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, code sample, references, etc.

SSIS Import/Export Wizard: "Unexpected Unrecoverable Error"

For whatever reason, whenever the SSIS Import/Export Wizard needs to display an error message, it throws up "Unexpected Unrecoverable Error" instead. The three buttons - Abort, Retry, and Ignore - all cause the wizard to close. I see some activity in Process Monitor that looks like DTSWizard.exe is probing around for some System.Web assemblies, and not finding them. I'm running 2008 SP1 on Win 7 x86, and I've reinstalled the client tools and Integration Services. Anybody else seen this issue? Should I file a report on Connect?
