Delete Old Backup Files that are saved in .RAR format

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have configured my SQL Server 2005 to take backups and I have another program running to compress these files to .RAR extension to save space.

I have a Maintenance Cleanup Task also configured to delete old .RAR files but it does not work.  I have specified the extension to look for to be RAR and the job runs without error but no files are deleted.

Is it that only BAK and TRN files are deleted using Maintenance Cleanup Task?

Bad Format when writing rejected rows to flat files when developing in Windows 7 64 bit

Our SSIS 2008 developers recently moved from Windows XP 32 bit PC's to Windows 7 64 bit PC's.   Our test and production execution environments are Windows Server 2008 32 bit servers.  We have existing jobs that write rejected rows from FACT loads to a flat files, these flat files are then emailed to business users so they can clean up data in the source systems.  We ahve modified a few of these jobs since the developers have move to Windows 7 64bit for development.  When we run the jobs from BIDS on the Windows 7 64bit machines the flat files look as we would expect.  When migrate them to test or production and run them the flat file is in the format below.  I have read some articles that states the <none> in the Text Qualifier property of the flat file definition is causing the problem, but  I don't think that is true.  I have removed the <none> and se the text quailfier to '  or "  and there is still garbage in the output file.  If I use a single quote as the Text Qulaifier the string _x0027_EmployeeFirstName_x0027_ is put in the flat file. Thanks in advanced for any suggestions.  Run from BIDS on Windows 7 64 bit EmployeeFirstName,EmployeeLastName,ActivityDate,FacilityID,Facility Name FIRST,LAST,2010-07-10,48,FACILITY Run on Windows 2008 32 bit _x003C_none_x003E_EmployeeFirstN

workflow starts before files are saved?

I have a sharepoint designer workflow associated with a document lib. The workflow is triggered when a new item is created or modified. The workflow will update attributes of the item.

The problem comes that for small files, the workflow works. For bigger file (even 0.5 mb), either the workflow failed to update the item or the file was saved as 0 byte.

Any recommendations?

Deploy infopath 2010 form template to MOSS (saved as Infopath2007 format)

I saw this post on another site and this happened to me as well.  I am trying to create a web form with controls, chose WebForms for Infopath2007 and changed the code to C# for Infopath 2007 and tried to deploy the form to the Infopath forms solution in Central Admin and was unable to do so.  any suggestions?

I have an interesting issue while deploying a VSTO enabled form today. For

some odd reason while performing stsadm -o verifyformtemplate -filename

foobar.xsn, it returned a "FatalError : The form cannot be converted because

it was designed for a later version of InfoPath Forms Services.".

Has anyone else tried deploying a InfoPath 2010 form with managed code in a

MOSS environment?? I'd hate to go back to InfoPath 2007, I love the new

ribbon. :D

Custom Workflow Error: The Workflow files were saved but cannot be run

Hi all,

I'm wondering if someone would have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this custom workflow issue.

Recently we can't attach any SharePoint Designer workflow to any list in a farm. We get this error message:

"Errors were found when compiling the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run. Unexpected error on server associating the workflow"

The standard workflows from UI seems to be working fine. Also user defined workflow is enabled. In the past I was able to fix similar issue with another farm following this post (remvoing SP designer custom workflow activities entries)- but does not look like this is the case this time.

Nothing in the logs regarding this error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Delete files older than 3 days using SSIS tasks

I want to delete all files in a given folder that are older than 3 days from today's date.

I tried using a "Foreach Loop container"  with a "File System" task inside it but found I couldn't access any file properties such as the file creation date. Am I using the wrong task for this job?

P.S. History of the problem:

I used the sql 2005 Database maintenance program to setup our database backup jobs. One day I noticed that the free space on the drive where we keep the dumps had grown small. I found that we had at least 4 weeks of dumps in there, not the 3 days I wanted to keep!  I looked but could not find the "delete file" option in the SSIS package generated by the Database Maintenance Wizard. No wonder the files were piling up.

returning backup files to applications

Hi all.

I want to send a backup command to sql server and return backup file to my c# win application . sql server is another machine and I have not access to its hard disk.

What should I do for that?

All problems have a solution.

Why is SQL 2000 Backup causing pre-shrunk (non-primary) filegroup files to grow?

I start off with an NDF file:-

07/01/2010  07:30 PM        65,404,928 sales_month199701.ndf

I use shrikfile to shrink it down:-

10/14/2010  08:08 PM        30,408,704 sales_month199701.ndf

I run a backup, and the size grows back again!

10/17/2010  06:51 PM        65,404,928 sales_month199701.ndf

Why? Will it make a difference if I set autogrowth off, and/or if I set the filegroup or file to read-only?

Sharepoint backup and LDF files

I am running WSS 3.0 on W2K3 box. I am using stsadm to do a full backup that is scheduled in System Tasks. I then backup the .bak file with 3rd party to tape.

I have noticed that the sharepoint_config.ldf and WSS_content.ldf log files are 17 and 1GB respectively. I thought that doing a full backup clears the LDF files. Isn't this the case? If not, how can they be reduced?

And based on my backup method mentined above, can I assume we're safe for failure, and all I'll need to do is restore the .bak file?

Thanks in advance.
