Replication Failing, because log file is full

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am having a problem with replication between 2 databases.  Here is some context on the setup.

I have 2 database servers, which are both running SQL Server 2005.  Each database server contains a database called CRIS_TEST_ARCHIVE, these databases are setup as replication subscriber and publisher and replication has been running flawlessly so far.

As part of a project, we are archiving a lot of data, ie, removing it from the CRIS_TEST_ARCHIVE database and putting it into a different database.  the export went fine, and I am partway through the step of deleting the redundant data from the current database.  This involves deleting a lot of rows from the source database and then running replication to ensure that the deleted rows also get deleted from the other replicated database.

I am running the deletes for each table one by one, and then running replication manually.

After one particularly large delete (about 9 million rows) i again started replication and got the following error in the replication manager:

Error messages:
The Merge Agent was unable to update information about the last synchronization at the Subscriber. Ensure that the subscription exists at the Subscriber, and restart the Merge Agent.  (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147199481)

The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaning

I'm facing an issue with the indexing.

I have 1 WFE+Index server+DB server.

Index server is not installed with MS FIlter pack 1.0

When crawling, the there will be document with warning in crawl log:
The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaningfully crawled.

Documents that with warning are such as doc, ppt, xls, docs, ppts and many others.
However, I view into the successful crawled document, there are doucments with ext doc and ppt.

For large file index, there are MaxGrowthFactor + MaxDownLoadSize required to be added into the index server.

As my understanding is, MS Filter Pack should installed into index server(already did, correct me if i'm wrong).

I looked into the Office SharePoint Seach(CA>Services in farm), if the server is appointed to "Use this server as indexing server", then MS Filter Pack is suppose to be installed into that particular server as well.

At the bottom, there also has another option is "Use all web front end for crawling".

The question here is, IF the option "Use all web front end for crawling" is selected.
Does the WED FRONT END Server required to installed the Ms Filte

Consistently running out of page file memory with full text indexer

Using MS SQL Server 2008 SP1 x64 Standard Edtion on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, I'm about to full-text index for the first time 1 table and 2 views. The table contains about 250'000 entries with a data space of 180 MB. As soon as I activate the full text indexing, the fdhost.exe task starts to consume slowly but surely all the available page file space (this can be easily watched using the Resource Monitor and the Commit Charge graph on the memory tab). Once all the virtual memory has been consumed, the server becomes unusable since it can't open any new windows any more, and RDP stops working. The machine specs are as follows: 12 GB of RAM 80 GB free on hard disk out of 136 GB 8 CPUs Custom size paging file with sizes between 24 GB - 60 GB (originally, this was system managed size, but then the server ran out of memory sooner) Max SQL server memory set to 6 GB (first 10 GB, then 8 GB) I've set the max fulltext crawl range to 8. During the indexing, the 8 CPUs are bit busy for a while, but not excessively. What is astonishing is that there is almost no use of physical memory during the indexing (I can see an increase from 2 GB to 3 GB which still leaves plenty of RAM available). Does anybody have an idea how I can convince fdhost.exe to consume physical memory and leave the paging memory alone? Or what else can I try?

How to capture the full file path from Async File Uploader Control?

Hi,I have an Async File Uploader control inside a Repeater which is inside an update panel. Now,I am uploading the file into ftp,so I am not uploading the video file, using SaveAs() method. For uploading the file in ftp,I have this UploadFile method which takes these four parameter:FileName, UploadPath, FTPUser, FTPPassword. Now this FileName,I have to send the full file path. My UploadComplete event looks like this:<pre lang="cs">protected void AsyncVideoUpload_UploadedComplete(object sender, AjaxControlToolkit.AsyncFileUploadEventArgs e)      {//VideoPath is a session variable            VideoPath = string.Empty;            if (AsyncVideoUpload.HasFile)            {               // string filepath = AsyncVideoUpload.PostedFile.FileName;                  string filepath = e.filename;//above two captures only the file name, but I want the total path, like c:/MyDocuments/...                                 UploadFile(filepath, "","test","Value*12"); &

transcation replication failing -- log reader

our replication is failing and error message is as below. We used to get this one fixed by increasing the query timeout value and reducing the read batch size value. But it did not work the last two times we tired. our version is sql server standard edition sp3. any idea on this would be of great help.

File Groups and Transactional Replication. PLEASE HELP

Im running transactional replication sql 2008 and have a couple table names with the same name but different schemas.  I want to make sure in the replication that the filegroups stay with the subscriber.  Is this possible?
Table AAA.Customer on file group A
Table BBB.Customer on file group B
Is there a way to keep these filegroups without rebuilding the index after it has been moved?  I noticed there was an option in the replicaiton options to keep file group but it doesn not seem to help.  Can you let me know how.  THANKS>

UnauthorizedAccessException - how to allow full file access

Hi all

I wrote a little backup utility a few years ago on WinXP in Visual Basic using Visual Studion 2008. The program has been working faultlessly for some time.  However, since the recent spontaneous combustion of my old laptop (!) and upgrade to a new one with Windows 7 on, I have fallen foul of UAC and the improved security.

Before even comparing the files (which will be done on a separate thread), the program counts the number of directories in order to make the progress bar meaningful.  This is done on the main thread, with the following sub:

Private Sub CountDirectories(ByVal SourceStr As String)
    If IO.Directory.Exists(SourceStr) Then
For Each Directory As IO.DirectoryInfo In New IO.DirectoryInfo(SourceStr).GetDirectories
        DirCount += 1

Cannot shrink log file, some remains of replication

It is about SQL Server 2008. The log file is huge - 30 GB, while the backup of log is 200 KB. There were 2 pull subscriptions which I removed, but still cannot shrink the log file.

1. When I use select log_reuse_wait_desc -> I receive "REPLICATION" in spite of there is no subscriptions or publications

2.  When I use select * from sys.tables

Transactional replication with updatable subscriptions makes log file huge...

We are doing Transactional replication with updatable subscriptions. We need to create the replicated db on same server. The recovery model is simple. The original DB has been restored from sql2000. But when I do the replication, the publishercreation fails saying that the database recovery mode is set to full, the log file is full and try freeing up some space in thelog. I can also see the log file growing in size but if I check the recovery mode, it is still 'Simple'.  The log file becomes huge like 10GB and also I cannot truncate it as it has unreplicated txn. I have not tired taking Txn backups, in first place I do not need because recovery mode is simple and that would not truncate it as log file has unreplicated txn's in it.

I wonder how the db recovery mode is being changed to full. I have not seen this happening before when doing replication.

I tired repolicating small subset of tables, but I see two copies of th table in the replicated db, one is regauld table has all the info and the other on is conflict_table name, it does not have any data in it.  do not know why it is happening?

Help greatly appreciated!!

SQL Server Mobile 2005 Merge replication failing over SSL, but can browse through pocket IE.

Hi All, this system is scheduled to go live in near to a day... but i have hit an issue when switching on SSL.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Device Env:

Windows Mobile 5.0 + Messaging and Security Feature Pack

SQL Server Mobile 2005.

Merge replication works fine without SSL.  After running the Configure Web Sync wizzard to setup SSL merge replication no longer works.  Note i checked using pocket IE by browsing to https://mycompany.com/pub/sqlcesa30.dll?diag and all worked fine.  There was no prompt saying the cert was bad etc.

The certificate is a:

Equifax secure global ebusiness CA-1 cert.

Signature algorithm md5RSA

public key RSA(1024 bits)

thumbprint algorithm sha1

Stacktrace given is:

-  ex {"A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT."} System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException
-  Errors {System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeErrorCollection} System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeErrorCollection

replication initialized from multiple file backup

Our database is rather large - several hundred gig. To aid in shipping the backup across the network, we split the backup into 5 files. When setting up replication based on this backup, can I just refer to the first file, since it is only looking at the header info?

I would like to be able to use a differential as the source since our changes add up to about 5 gig per day, but i have never been abld to start replication off of a differential no mater what i do with the various agents - log, distrib etc etc.

SharePoint 2010 backup is failing - Error - "Unable to read full interval from database - Operation

I am having a problem backing up a site collection, when trying to backup the collection I get the following error "Unable to read full interval from database" and "operation is not valid due to the current state of the object".

The backup does run and manages to backup 182MB of the site collection and then the backup fails, it fails at the same point what ever backup method I use e.g. STSADM, Powershell or Central Admin.

I'm getting the same error whether I use CA "granular backup" or "Farm backup", and using either STSAMD or Powershell. I can backup CA or the mysite collection but not the Home Portal site collection. I even tried installing the commuvaults 2010 agents and running a commuvault backup but this is also failing. i have included the log file entry below.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to either fix the problem or an alternative way to backup the collection or farm, I am currently taking a full SQL backup but am not sure how reliable this is as I haven't tried to restore the sites.

P.S. I am not using the "UseSQLSnapshot" parameter.

Tricky situation - Logs full and can't truncate **because of replication**, other similar posts do

I'm in a situation where my backup failed and went unnoticed long enough for the log to consume the disk.  I've added additional log space on another drive, not desirable but either is a crashed db.  The issue seems to be that I have rouge transactions in the sys.dm_tran_active_transactions and can't get rid of them.

There a 6 rows that are named worktable and have a time stamp of 1-24-11 which is before I setup replication and I believe these are preventing the log from releasing it's space.  Can these rows be deleted if I can find the underlying sql table that's behind the sys.dm_tran_active_transactions view?  Well providing connecting to ADMIN:<dbname> puts me in a mode to do so.

I want that Maintenance Plan should Create File Name as DATABASENAME.BAK (e.g. MICROBRAIN.BAK)

Please Help me How to do this ? Because Creating Seperate Backup file on every backup will exhaust space in removable Hard Disk.

SQL Server 2008 Merge Replication - Snapshot File Location Is Incorrect

I've searched far and wide, and so far have not been able to find any reference to this issue.

There is a merge replication setup on a SQL 2008 server, setup to replicate to SQL 2008 Express edition. We have similar setups in SQL 2005 AND SQL 2008 without issues. The setup is that the current merge replication snapshot file location is \\<ServerName>\Repldata\UNC\<SERVER_PUBLICATION>\20101229112828 which represents the file location of the latest snapshot which was just generated due to an obsolete snapshot.

The issue comes in when attempting to replicate against the server. The replication says that the schema script could not be propogated to the subscriber. Under normal circumstances I would say it's due to security issues with being able to read to the above folder, however this is not the case. The additional error that comes up is stating that it could not read the file along with an OS error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified).

What is unique about this, is that the subscriber is trying to download the snapshot from an old and now non-existent snapshot folder. Here is an copy of the error, noting the file location of "20091121130613" which no longer exists and is from an old snapshot.
