Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm trying to install Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Enterpise and I'm getting that error almost right away after I enter the serial number.
I tried to burn DVD, copy files on the local disk, mount original ISO file as a disk.. Nothing did not work.
Please advise.

Thank you,

Health Analyzer reports "Product / patch installation or server upgrade required." and I can't seem

The text of the error is: On server SHAREPOINTSERVER, once all required products and/or patches are installed, perform an upgrade by either running PSConfigUI.exe or by executing the command "PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures". If a former upgrade attempt has failed, you may need to resolve upgrade specific issues before attempting upgrade again. Refer to the upgrade status page (http://sharepointserver:XXXX/_admin/UpgradeStatus.aspx) for information about current and prior upgrade attempts, and to determine issues that may be preventing upgrade from succeeding. For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=142700". So I went to the server in question and ran the command line quoted in the error message and then I get this error back: Configuration of SharePoint Products failed. Configuration must be performed before you use SharePoint Products. For further details, see the diagnostic log located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\1 4\LOGS\PSCDiagnostics_....log and the application event log. The file coloredMenuItems.sitemap required by XmlSiteMapProvider does not exist.

Hi all,

I'm seeing this exception (InvalidOperation Exception from XMLSitemapProvider - trace below) every time I try and access my site. It has worked in the past and this error has just materialised recently, after googling around I see a lot of things referring to permissions on the sitemap file, i've used search to find every occurence of the sitemap on my PC and set 'Everyone' to 'read and execute' and I still have the same issue, I have recycled the app pool and redeployed the site multiple times since I set the permissions.

I have an entry in my web.config:

<add name="ColoredMenu" siteMapFile="_layouts/sitemap/coloredMenuItems.sitemap" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" securityTrimmingEnabled="false" />

Is there anything i'm missing? Anything else I could try? I've been toying with this for quite some time and i'd really like my development environment back! >)

Thanks in advance,

Cannot upload file : 'You must specify a value for the required field'

In any web app, any Sharepoint site, and any document library in my farm (WSS 3.0, Sharepoint Designer 2007), I can't upload any file :

I can select my file in my hard drive with the browse button, but when I click OK button, I get this message :

'You must specify a value for the required field '

I think it's a required field which is hidden : I found 2 required fields, description and name (name is the file path so is mandatory). Changing description's required property didn't solve the problem.

I made a lot of change in a lot of file such as customization and configuration.

Replacing upload.aspx and application.master files with files from a working farm didn't solve the problem too...

However I don't have any problem when adding attachments in announcements ...

Having a Sharepoint site where you can't upload any file in a library is a big problem and I don't find any solution !

Thanks in advance.

Encountering error when trying to perform any AS operation because of corrupt file

I tried to restore a database i had downloaded from the net, but i guess the file was corrupted or I hadn't done it the proper way. However, now, am not able to do anything with my other AS databases as well ( ie, not able to browse, write MDX etc ). I tried deleting the problematic database but still encountered the same error :

File system error: Error opening file; \\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\Foodmart 2000.2.db\0.CryptKey.bin is not a disk file or file is not accessible.
Errors in the metadata manager. Processing for the database will be disabled because of an error occured hile loading the 'Foodmart 2000' database cryptography key. One possible reason for this error is that the service account has changed.

Kindly help!!

softwares required / installation steps for using SSRS 2008 along with SQL server 2005 as DataSource

I want to use SSRS 2008 to develop reports, but SQL server 2005 should be used as datasource, so I assume that,

1) MS Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 should be installed to get SSRS 2008 and BIDS

2) SQL server 2005 should be installed and in "Reporting Services Configuration Manager" the Database section should point to SQL server 2005

Please suggest whether the approach is correct or not, if not please give me the correct way to achieve it.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation via configuration file

Hi everyone !

I'm trying to install SQL2K8R2 on a W2K8R2 x64 server.

I previously did the installation using the GUI. No problemo.

Now I'm trying to install using the /configurationfile switch. However the setup fail with the error "the credentials you provided for SQL Server Agent Services are invalid..."

The account is a domain account with no privileges on the server. I only use Windows accounts for Agent & SQL Services.

I've seen some posts on the web about this issue, seems to be an issue with the user which is running the setup command. I'm using an account which is local admin and domain user.

Any help ? Have a nice day.

Installation Problem: 'Server Type Tab Not showing. Only File location shown

You cannot vote on your own post I am installing Sharepoint 2010 on WIndows server 2008 R2 64 bit machine. After entering 'product key' screen, it suppose to show Screen where 'server type' and 'File Location' tabs where we select 'Standalone/Server farm' then 'Complete/standalone'.

I have run the same setup on WIndows 7 OS and it does show up the screen having  options for 'Stand Alone/Server Farm'.

BUT on Windows 2008 R2, it does not. After entering product key next screen shows up having only  'File location' tab screen which also does not have 'Server Type" Tab.  This is killing me to proceed as I have to work with Power Pivot in Sharepoint integrated mode where its compulsary to select 'Server Farm' AND 'Complete' Options.

I as well ran prerequisteinstaller before running setup.exe. Prerequisiteinstaller completed succesfully. But setup.exe  has this weared problem. For workaround I tried from command prompt as well giving Cmd> Setup.exe /Config C:\SharePointsetup\Files\SetupFarm\config.xml.   BUT no change. Same issue screen does not showup with that options.

File corrupt issue with SQL Server Express 2008 Download

I have tried to download SQL Server Express 2008 with advanced services a several times from different locations across the MS web site.  I keep getting a File Corrupt error when extracting "owc11sp1.msp."  I have tried several different computers and following the steps directly.  I can not perform a web install on the machine that will host the SQL server, so that option is out.  Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this that actually works?

I tried downloading it from here:

Setup doesn't show installation log file content when installation fails

I just tried to install SharePoint Server 2010.

The installation finally failed after applying all the updates, stating that installing SharePoint Server 2010 could not be completed due to some Office prerequisite not working alright.

The conclusion sentence proposed me to read the installation log files to get further details on the problem.

The only other thing available from the installation window there was the [OK] button - nothing more.

How am I supposed to read installation log files if there is not even a link available pointing me to those log files?

I'm currently performing a search operation on the whole C:\ drive to find the folder where the setup log files might reside.

Perhaps someone can tell me (and others if they are facing the same problem at installation) where the SharePoint Server 2010 installer puts these log files?

PS: I strongly suggest to add a Hyperlink control to the error message, pointing to the installation log files so that the user can quickly put his hands on finding a solution to the problem.

(A problem, I should add, that I believe could have been known to the installation script *before* it started wasting time on trying to install SharePoint Server 2010.)

Streaming file result sometimes corrupt

I have a WCF service with basic authentication that can be used by clients to upload data. The clients are .NET 2 clients. The file size is about 1-10 Mb and the service receives them in a streaming way. The configuration settings are adjusted to support files up to 500 Mb and this is tested and works fine in our lab environment.

About 99% of the uploads are successful, however sometimes the uploaded file is corrupt. The log files on the service side show this error: 'An exception has been thrown when reading the stream'.
I added the full stacktrace at the bottom.

What could be causing this? If I look at the client code I noticed that the connection isn't closed or disposed, but this is the same for every client. Also a .NET 2 client cannot close the connection because that method is not available. Besides that I found an article on the WCF Security Guide with a sample client call and even there the client isn't closed (while that is done for .NET 3.5 clients)(http://wcfsecurity.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Internet%20%E2%80%93%20WCF%20and%20ASMX%20Client%20to%20Remote%20WCF%20Using%20Transport%20Security%20(HTTP)). Unattended Installation, a problem with Upgrade property in the ini-file

Hi there,
I'm trying to install several SQL-Server instances on a single machine in a unattended mode. I'm using an INI.File. Normally looks this ini-file by the FIRST SQL-instance like that (a part of it..):

It works fine. Then I start with the next instance of SQL-Server and then get an error:
"Workstation Components, Books Online and Development Tools
Error           : A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."

OK, it's clear for me, there is already an instance of SQL-Server on the machine. Then I modified the ini-file and remove the installation items like BOL etc. Now it looks like that:

These changes help not at all - I get still the same error. Ther error says something about "UPGRADE" property. I've tried: UPGRADE=SQL_Books_Online, but this is obviously false.

How to solve this problem?

File Splitter in .Net

I love to do utility programs in .Net. And this is one of them. As I was playing with JSplit (a free file splitter program), I wondered if I could do it in .Net. The framework supports file operations like reading files in bytes and creating them. It is indeed easy to do file operations in .Net Basics on File operations

Upload Multiple File using JQuery in asp.net

In this article I have explained how to upload multiple files using file upload control. I have used jQuery plugin for uploading multiple files.

I have also explained how to check for file type, file maximum size limit using jQuery & also using server side validation code.
