Custom Web Part Problem After SharePoint Restore

Hi, I've recently moved our sharepoint site and databases (using Microsoft Internal Database) to another standalone server. I did a catastrophic backup and then restored it on the destination server successfully via the central Administration page. I have also copied our custom web part library dll to 'c:\windows\assembly' directory and 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin' directory. I also copied over the old web.config file to 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80'. However, I still seem to be missing something as I get the error below while loading the site. I haven't been able to find a solution so hoping someone has seen it before here. Has anyone seen this happen before? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

version dependency while backup restore of SharePoint 2007 Site Collections

hi all

I am aware of a version dependency on the stsadm -o backup/restore operation.

But will the same dependency exist for a content DB backup restore..

i.e. for example will we able to restore a content DB backup taken from a server with version say to a server with say assuming that the versions of SQL is the same in both cases.

Will the version difference in SQL create issues

Thanks in advance

Can I back up a site from SharePoint 2010 server and restore it on a SharePoint 2010 Foundation serv

I had a simple site in a SharePoint 2010 server, and I backed it up. That server is not available anymore, and all I have available is a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server. Can I restore on that server? I got an error message saying that the versions of "SharePoint Foundation" on the two servers are different. Note that only one of the servers (the destination server) was running SharePoint Foundation, the other one had full SharePoint 2010.

I don't think I am using any features that are not part of SharePoint Foundation... it's an extremely simple site. Just a list with custom list forms edited in SharePoint Designer.

SharePoint Server 2010 October Cumulative Update My site Problem

Hi everyone

I have created a small farm with a default installation. I have 2 web application configured using Claims authentication.

The first web application is hosting a site called http://sharepoint.domain.com running a standard team site.
The second web application is hosting a site called http://my.sharepoint.domain.com and is running the Mysite.

When I install the October cumulative update the My Site links vanish and the My site is no longer accessible showing a sharepoint Access Denied page.

Has anyone else experience this? Do you know how to fix it?

Problem with SharePoint Tutorial On MSDN site

I'm a newbie so i'm hoping one you experts could help me with a problem i'm having with the training video series that available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/ee513147.aspx. In the second module video number 6 he creates and application page and add some code and the deploys and views it in the browser. The problem that I'm running into is that when I try to bring that page up in my browser I get a "Application Error" page and that's it. I thought that maybe I made a mistake in the code somewhere so I removed all the code and all the markup from the .aspx file and still got the same error. So I have two questions:

1) Does anyone have any idea why I would get an application error on a page with just the bare bones auto generated content with no user code at all.

2) Why am I getting this page instead of the details of the error when I'm running this on my local box and not a remote server. The CustomErrors setting in the config file is set to "Off". Since I'm new to this i thought perhaps I was modifying the wrong web.config file. I verified the path in IIS Admin for the site to be C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80 and that's the config file I changed.

Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated and would leave me eternally in your debt.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Take a tour of your SharePoint site

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.
