Can not see another WSS3.0 sites lists in SPD Data Source Library

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I am editing a WSS3.0 (not MOSS) site in Sharepoint Designer and I am trying to display items from lists in another WSS3.0 website.  I have gone through the "Connect to another library..." steps on the "Data Source Library" tab and SPD does show entries in the "XML Files" tree but does not show any entries (or the headings) for "Sharepoint Lists" or "Sharepoint Libraries".  Is this a limitation of WSS3.0, is this not possible or am I trying to do this the wrong way?  I am basically trying to pull annoucments / diary entries from one site to other sites.

Many thanks in advance

Data Source Library won't open / grayed out

I saw a similar question but the answers didn't solve my problem so here it goes.  I have a site, and many subsites underneath.  For all of them it says I'm owner/full control.  They even gave me control of the site above mine so I could have permission to do a lot of things on my sites.  Ok well every site works the same.  I open them in SharePoint Designer and can insert data view and see the data sources under the "current site".

However, this one site i have says "current site" in the data source library tab, but it is grayed out and I can't expand it.  My IT contact has no idea what's wrong since I have full permission to all these sites.  I can add webparts through sharepoint designer to this site, I just can't add data views (and I really need data views for what I'm doing).

This is a site that's been around for a bit but this is the first time I started using it to insert data views.  Unfortunately it's a live site so I can't just delete/recreate as other things on the site are currently in use and going through workflows.

Any suggestions are appreciated!  Where can I look?  What should I check?

Thanks so much!

XML web service showing error in Data Source Library when I clicked on "Show Data".

Hi ,

I am working on share point 2007.
I have added a XML Web service in Data source in Share Point designer 2007. This web service is custom web service which get data from 3 different type of list and creates XML and return that xml.

I have installed this web service as instructed in msdn. I checked it is working properly.
First time when I create a data source from XML web service in Share Point Designer 2007, It shows all records when I clicked on “Show Data ”. But after a few minutes it shows en error” The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source. Check the format and content of your query and try again. If the problem persists, contact the server administrator. ”.

PerformancePoint 2010 - SharePoint Lists as a data source

I am in the midsts of planning for an upgrade from 2007 to 2010, and we are looking for quick-wins for the client, one of which obviously being PerformancePoint 2010 integration with SPS 2010. So i am tooling around, following some basic tutorials of creating scorecards/kpis/filters/dashboards all from the contoso sample data, which is all fine and well, but my client doesn't have a datawarehouse, and doesn't plan on moving to one.

This puts me in the situation where I need to be able to create these pieces from SP Lists instead of an analysis services DB/DW. I go through and create the data connection, and all seems to be working fine...In the data connection windows, I can click the View tab and preview the data, and actually see all the data thats in the task list I've created and linked to (all demo data, just created a couple of tasks and etc).

Now the trouble comes when I try to create a simple scorecard based off of this list. When I am in the Create tab, and click Scorecard, (Use Tabular > SP List) I can select my data source (Task Tracking Data Source) and thats all well and good.

I then go to the SharePoint Site tab (on the select data source on the wizard), I am able to select my Task Tracking Data source as well. When I get to the KPI scre

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

Data Truncation issue with Enterprise Library Logging WriteLog stored Proc

Hi ,

I'm using Enterprise Library Logging  feature for logging. The issue i am facing is when the Logging message is too large(more than 65534 chars) ,complete data  is not logged in the Formatted Mesage column which is  of data Type nText .

I am able insert complete data if i try inserting from Sql insert Query from sql management studio. Do i need to add any attributes to data base listener or do i need to change the sp.

Is there any way to increase the WriteLog stored proc param size in EnterpriseLibrary.Logging config file ? . Please let me know.

Thanks In Advance.

Data Points: The Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block, Part 3

E nterprise applications can have a wide variety of data update requirements. Sometimes you need to save multiple rows of changes at once within a single transaction. Other times, the user must be allowed to enter multiple rows of data, send them to the database in a batch; and if a row or two fails, only the rows that succeeded should be committed and remain committed.

A solid data access later (DAL) can benefit an application by hiding redundant tasks, helping handle exceptions more gracefully, helping clean up resources more efficiently, and providing a layer of abstraction from the database.

Empty Website Data Source windown

Hi all,

I am Visual Web Developer user and facing a problem when I am creating a local report (.rdlc) file.

I am using Business objects as the Data Source for this report. It was working perfectly until all the items in the Website Data Source window suddenly "disappeared". The "Add New Data Source" button on this window is also disabled. Now the window is just like a blank box only. And I can't continue working with the report file like this...

I have tried undoing what I did before but it does not help at all...

Any reason for this to happen? There is no sign or something at least indicating what is wrong.

Please help.

Dynamic Data (Scaffolding Templated Sites) [REPOST]

Just been using this for a few days, but love it already.

I was wondering what some of the plans were for things like role/user-level security, or even 'type' security.

For some real-world 'for-instance' examples:

  • How would I go about deciding/filtering out which tables are visible?
  • What would the guidance be for making a particular field available to edit for a particular user (set of users)?
  • Can I tie into events (or something) at the model level to filter out data?

I easily built a custom control based off some of your examples and it's already up and working in the site.  I can really see where this is going to help in the protyping of admin apps, specifically with internal or early-versions of software, and while I get the idea it is really a springboard for more complex development, what is available here is just awesome.

Thanks for any info/suggestions to the above questions.

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

The report cannot be opened because the data source associated with it is not a report model.

i tried to open a report i created in sql business intelligence development studio in the report builder in wss3 and it gave me this error:

Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportBuilder.ReportModel.Report: The report 'http://servername:port#/Reports/report.rdl' cannot be opened because the data source 'http://servername:port#/DataSource Library/datasource.rsds' associated with it is not a report model.

This report was not created in Report Builder. Try opening this report in Report Designer instead.

can i fix this so i can open my reports in report builder?
