Image Editing Components for ASP.NET

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Our company is trying to find a component (ActiveX or Silverlight) that allows a seamless style of image editing through the web.

The features we need are brightness/contrast/resize/zoom/crop etc... The basic set of editing functions.

I'm having a really hard time finding a component that would support a server side style of editing.

The images being edited are stored as part of our system, and they are stored privately in a dedicated storage location tied to our web server. The images are not available publically as a .jpg file but can be accessed through an aspx page which streams the binary.

We'd need some way of having this control point to an aspx page as the source (the aspx page streams the image as binary) and allow the users to edit the image, without having to go through the whole File-Open-select image from the client.

And of course after performing the edits, we'd need to be able to save the image or send the binary back to the server.

Does anybody know of any components out there with this type of functionality?

Editing Image in Gridview VB.net

Hi, i'm back again and would like to seek help and advises from you experts on how to deal with problem. I have a table that accepts news data like title, content, link and a single image to be uploaded and attached to the database (not on file server). Now i want this Image Column (varbinary datatype) to be edited in case. When I tried puting an html fileupload in editing mode using gridview, I am getting error from the Image Column conversion like Image type cannot be converted into string. I know there is this scenario of reading and assigning data in my table, and then changing some codebehind and at the same time binding it into the gridview.This is my Image Handler:<%@ WebHandler Language="VB" %>Imports SystemImports System.WebImports System.ConfigurationImports System.Data.SqlClientPublic Class Handler : Implements IHttpHandler        Public Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As HttpContext) Implements IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest        Dim con As New SqlConnection()        con.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("automotiveConnectionString").ConnectionString                ' Create SQL Command           &n

WPF Image editing

I've been beating my head against a problem for a couple of weeks.  I need to be able to copy a portion of a photo into a separate photo that will be "floater" over the original area.  I need to be able to move and rotate that floater (possible scale at some point), and, when I've gotten my desired look, recombine that area with the original. I've been able to get a rectangular region copied into a separate image control (I would like to be able to do a multiline polygon eventually).  I can them use TransformGroup to RenderTransform the smaller image.  The problem I'm having is getting the finished product to re-combine with the source bitmap.  The canvas doesn't change with the virtual changes, and, after a rotation, the floater image isn't truly a rectangle since the y values are different on the top,left and top, right. I have the Leadtools classes at my disposal for the CombineFastCommand, but I would need to be able to get a rectangular region into a bitmap that includes my RenderTransform's. Thanks, N. Problem with Editing image inside DetailsView inside UpdatePanel

I have a problem and I really hope you'll be able to help me.

I'm trying to add and edit an image which is located in a detailsview which is inside an UpdatePanel. After I read relevant topics in the forum I installed the Ajax Control Toolkit. Below is my source code. When I used it only for insert new image it worked great. The problem caused when I tried to implement it on the Edit mode, i.e. when I tried to edit the image and upload a different image.  Unfortunately it didn't work as I hoped. Nothing happend and the image hasn't been changed. I also tried to change the IDs (AsyncFileUpload ID) to be the same in both places but it didn't work either.

The source code:

<asp:DetailsView ID="dvMovie" runat="server" Height="50px" Width="695px"
                    AutoGenerateRows="False" DataSourceID="sdsMovieById"
                     BorderColor="#E7E7FF" BorderStyle="None" BorderWidth="1px"

C# Tutorial - Image Editing: Saving, Cropping, and Resizing

In C# it can be tiresome to do certain image editing functions using GDI+. This post has some fun editing methods which can come in handy at times. I have also included a nice little C# program to show all the functionality of the methods below.

Saving a Jpeg
The first thing to do here is set up the method signature with the input parameters. These are the save file path (string), the Image to save (System.Drawing.Bitmap), and a quality setting (long).

Editing the Data in a GridView

In addition to deleting a GridView's underlying data, another common need is to allow end users to edit the data displayed in a GridView. With ASP.NET 1.x's DataGrid control, editing the data is certainly possible, but requires creating three event handlers and writing a dozen or so lines of code. With the GridView and ASP.NET 2.0, it is possible to create an editable GridView without writing a single line of code! All of the necessary functionality is encapsulated within the GridView.

The GridView allows editing on a row-by-row basis. An editable GridView contains an additional column with an Edit button in each row. When the end user clicks on an Edit button that row becomes editable, causing the Edit button to change to Update and Cancel buttons and the other columns to become TextBoxes. The end user can then update one or more column values and click Update to save their changes.

How Do I Enable Inline GridView Editing?

Now that you have created a site with Edit and Details views, how do you enable inline editing in a GridView control? This video shows you how, and also touches on routing.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Built-in Functions - Text and Image Functions in SQL Server

Text and image functions operate on TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE data types. These data types are deprecated with SQL Server 2005 and should be replaced by VARCHAR(MAX), NVARCHAR(MAX) and VARBINARY(MAX) when possible. Alternatively you can also consider storing large string values using XML data type. Text and image functions are nondeterministic.

Future versions of SQL Server will not support TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE data types. Columns with TEXT / NTEXT data type do not support commonly used string functions such as LEN, LEFT, RIGHT, etc. Furthermore, due to the large size of TEXT data you''re likely to see performance issues if you store such data in the database. However, at times you can''t help but use the TEXT / NTEXT / IMAGE data types (for example when supporting 3rd party databases when you cannot change the schema) - this is when text and image functions come in handy.

Program for Format Conversion of An Image

.NET provides extensive support for image conversion. Any image can be processed from one format to another. Most common formats to which .NET have support for are .BMP, .EMF, .GIF, .ICO, .JPG, .PNG, .TIF and .WMF.

Configuring Profile Image Export in SharePoint 2010

It's no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list

ASP.Net Upload Image to MS Access Database

As you learnt from the previous articles to upload image to the SQL Database in ASP.Net 2.0 and stream that image into the memory to retrieve it from the database and display it on the web page. In this article you will learn how to upload images to the MS Access database in ASP.Net 2.0

First of all create an Access Database and place it in the App_Data folder of ASP.Net web site project. Then create a table "tblImg" with the following fields:

Get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB.net - C#.net.

n this simple article you will learn that how we can get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB and C#.net.

Get Pixel Format:

Image consists of pixels to get the format of the pixel we have a property named pixel format. This property returns an enumeration of pixel format. This enumeration tells the pixel format.

To demonstrate make a window application. Drag one button and a picture box on form.

Now write the following code on Button click event:

Gridview with a dropdown list for editing

Hello. I am working through Scott Mitchell's ASP.Net in 24 hours book. I am finishing the photo album project.

I have a GridView that retrieves a list of uploaded photo rows for the logged-in user.
The GridView is for editing and deleting rows.

The photo Category field in the Gridview is a dropdown list. The text entry field was deleted after converting this field to a Template.

Like the uploaded photos, these Categories are user-specific. They are created in another web page.

Users also have the option to select "none" for the category when they upload an image.

For the GridView:  The Category ID field's ItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate both have a " - None - " choice added to them.

I am getting this error:

'pictureReadOnlyCategories' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value

Note: The ID for the ItemTemplate for that dropdown list is the ID listed above in the error: "pictureReadOnlyCategories".

Am I missing some step in this process of changing a GridViews text field to a dropdown that can be used for editing? I went through the book's instructions three times.

Here is my code for the dropdown list and a screenshot of the Design

Can't display an image from the database

My database has a products table that has images stored in a varbinary(MAX) column.

I'm trying to display product information in a repeater and trying to display the images as well by using a GenericHandler class but I can't get the image to show up in my page.

Here is my Handler.ashx class:

Public Class Handler
    Implements System.Web.IHttpHandler

    Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As HttpContext) Implements IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest

        '== Set up the response settings
        context.Response.ContentType = "image/gif"
        context.Response.BufferOutput = False

        Dim id As Integer = -1
        Dim stream As Stream = Nothing
        If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(context.Request.QueryString("id")) Then
            id = context.Request.QueryString("id")
            stream = GetImage(id)
        End If

        Const buffersize As Integer = 1024 * 16
        Dim buffer(buffersize) As Byte
        'byte[] buffer = new byte[buffersize];
        Dim count As Integer = stream.Read(buffer, 0, buffersize)

        While count > 0
            context.Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, count)
            count = stream.Read(buffer, 0, buffersize)
        End While
