VS 2010 could not find database at design time

Hi all, I'm having this problem.... Scenario: C# 2010, WPF, SQL Compact 3.5 SP2. I'm working at a wpf window which loads records from a SQL Compact DB and shows data in textboxes. At runtime everything works perfectly but since this morning (working on it last 2 days) i'm not able to edit the window at DesignTime. As soon as I open the window with the wpf editor I got the error (translating from Italian): "Impossible to find the database. Check the database path. [Data Source = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\thedbfile.sdf]" Now, in settings and app.config I have the connection string which is something like Data Source=|DataDirectory|\thedbfile.sdf I don't understand why and where NOW (only since this afternoon) at Design Time VS look that path for the database, while at RunTime it's ok. Again, I'm using Datasets, and I can preview data, ecc., as said everything is ok except the edit of the window which crash with this error.... thanks

Database Design Suggestions Requried

Hi All,

I am working on a multi-lingual application

Assume the following:

Database has 50 tables and application has to support 5 languages

Which is the best way to design the database:
1. Include a langugae column for each table.
    Repeat the values for each language. Say i have a country table which has 100 countries in it. Then my design will contain 500 rows (100 for each langugae)
2. Create a separate table which will contain the translations for all the 50 tables in with a foreign key to the parent table.

Which is more efficient out of the above two.

Thanks

Chandra

Database design help

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to .net. Please forgive the Newb question here.

I'm designing a website that has users who login. There are three rolls: Customers, Business Admins, SuperUserAdmin.

Business Admins have a 1 to many relationship with many Customers. SuperUserAdmins can login and do anything... typically, just me or a developer.

Would this be the correct table design?:

Rolls_

  RollId
  RollName
...

Membership_

ApplicationId
  UserId
  Password

...

Businesses_
  UserId
  BusId <-- Primary Key

...

Customers_
  UserId
  BusId <-- Foreign Key

...

Feedback for Database Design

Hi Experts

Not sure whether I post into the right channel. After gathering info bit here and there and looking at this URL:

http://www.accountingsoftware411.com/Press/Insider/InsiderArticleView.aspx?docid=10330&iid=1025, here's the design:

1. ChartAccounts

ChartAccountID INT
TenantID
ChartAccountCode VARCHAR(256)
Dimension1Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension2Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension3Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension4Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension5Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension6Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension7Code VARCHAR(16)
Dimension8Code VARCHAR(16)
IsExpired BIT
ExpiredDate DATETIME

Note: I can see that the Dimension/Segment is limted to only 8 BUT I don't think other company will have more than 8. I am open suggestion with this approach.
We put TenantID because in this application we store for multiple clients/organisation.

Sample Data:

1|310-01-4000|310|01|4000||||||
2|310-02-4000|310|02|4000||||||
3|310-03-4000|310|03|4000||||||
4|320-01-4000|320|01|4000||||||
5|320-02-4000|320|02|4000||||||
6|320-03-4000|320|03|4000||||||
7|200-01-5000|200|01|5000||||||
...

2. Dimensions

DimensionID INT
ParentDimensionID INT
TenantID INT

Website Database Design

 Hello,

I hope this post is in the right section.

I am designing a new application and I am after some advice in regards to designing the database structure. The application is being built in ASP.NET 3.5, SQL SERVER 2005 Express and using the built in membership/profiling tables.

The website will allow a user to login and verify their account with a link in an email they will be sent. I have got this working fine using the createUserWizard control, but I also need them to select the type of membership they want when creating an account and I am a bit stumped at what stage this should be put in.

Do I put this in when creating the user before they verify their account? or do I have it listed when they first login to allow them to change their membership status from a free account to a paying account?

They will have four options list below:

  • free
  • bronze
  • silver
  • gold

The bronze, silver and gold accounts will be a monthly subscription which the user can signup to.

The second part to this post is the main bit in how do I design my database for monthly subscriptions? I was thinking something along the lines below.

MembershipSubscription Table:

UserID, SubscriptionID, StartDate, EndDate

12345, 1, 10-10-201

Database Design Question

Hi everyone,

This is my scenario: I have 4 tables in my database at the moment. One of the tables contains all my users, each of which have a unique id(integer). One table contains the names and descriptions of certain lists of users so for example a row would be

table name: Lists

 ID_____LISTNAME__________DESCRIPTION_______

12    |     Example List     |    short description of the list

---------------------------------------------------------------------

A third table contains the ID's of users that are in a given list:

table name: ListUsers

LISTID_____USERID___

 12        |         213

 12        |         192

 12        |         84

-------------------------------

My final table is filled with certain "events" I am holding that users on a list are invited to. (there are more fields in this table but they are not important).

table name: Events

ID_______EVENTNAME_______LISTID_
