How do I use a GridView with a Stored Procedure with changing columns?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a stored procedure that returns a dataset with a different number of columns and different column names depending on user input.  How can I use this with a GridView?  Normally I define the columns beforehand in a static fashion, but, have never done a dynamic dataset like this.

How can I replace values in GridView returned from a Stored Procedure

I am working on creating a stored procedure that will output a pivot table.  In the pivot table will be either the string NULL or a number.  How can I reformat this in ASP.NET so the NULL value becomes a blank cell in the gridview and the number (whatever it is) becomes an 'X' ?

Gridview and stored procedure

Hi,   I am returning a list of machines to a gridview by rental packageID, the the rental packageID shows a rental amount in a new column.   E.g. Rental Package ID Annual Rental           1                            5,000           1                            5,000           2                            1,000   The problem is that for any machine where the rental packageID is the same as another, the annual rental shows the value twice, this is a problem as the footer in the griview calculates the total of the column and its bringing incorrect values.   Does anyone know how to fix this is my stored procedure?

Entity Model- Add Function Import - selected stored procedure returns no columns

Please let us know how to add function import and Get Column information(create complex Type). Thanks in advance. My stored procedure is alter PROCEDURE spGetQuestGrid( @QID as int)ASBEGIN SET NOCOUNT OFF SET FMTONLY OFF  Declare @optId varchar(10) set @optId = (select DISTINCT Optid from  QuestOptions where  QID = @QID)    DECLARE @PivotColumnHeaders VARCHAR(MAX) SELECT @PivotColumnHeaders =  COALESCE(@PivotColumnHeaders + ', [' + cast(Caption as varchar) + ']' ,  '[' + cast(Caption as varchar)+ ']' ) FROM OptionsDetail where OptId = @optId  DECLARE @PivotTableSQL NVARCHAR(MAX)  SET @PivotTableSQL = 'select * from  ( select  Caption,Optid  from OptionsDetail ) as dt PIVOT  ( min(Optid) FOR Caption IN ( '+ @PivotColumnHeaders + '))as pt'     Execute (@PivotTableSQL)  END

Using search with stored procedure and redisplaying in one gridview

I am using two SQL Data Adapters to initially populate a gridview and then repopulate from search results.  The Search SQL Data Source uses a stored procedure to retrieve the results but I cannot get the updated gridview to display. How to Bind Selective Columns from Stored Proc to Gridview using the entity framework

Hi Guys,

I have this entity model>> http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/306/schemaj.jpg and I would like to bind  a list  which consists of: employee's

  • emloyee_firstname(employees table) + employee_lastname(employees table)
  • employee's extension(employee_extension table)
  • deparment name(departments table)

to my gridview. I already created my stored procedure

    Concat(employees.employee_firstname," ",employees.employee_lastname) as name
    , extensions.extension_number
    , departments.department_description
    INNER JOIN employees
        ON (employee_extensions.employee_id = employees.employee_id)
    INNER JOIN extensions
        ON (employee_extensions.extension_id = extensions.extension_id)
    INNER JOIN departments
        ON (employees.department_id = departments.department_id)

But my problem is, i don't know how to bind it since i don't have an entity that contains the employee's name, extension# and departments name. Do I need to create a custom class that consists of said columns? or is their a proper way to do this? I'

GridView Insert clicking a button in footer row using stored procedure

Hi!! I need your help again.

I have a gridview with a button in the first column of the footer row and some controls (textbox, dropdowlist...) in the rest of the columns. I want to click that button and insert into a database table using an stored procedure the text properties of the controls in the other columns.

I don't know what's wrong... could you help me or post me a link to read it??

GridView delete using stored procedure problem (strange)

I'm getting an error and I can't understand why is this happening...
I have an stored procedure which receives a parameter to delete the database row corresponding to that key-parameter. In the GridView_RowCommand I'm setting up the datasource in the e.CommandName == "Delete" option

this.SqlDataSourceGridView.DeleteCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure;
this.SqlDataSourceGridView.DeleteCommand = "spDeleteGridView";

Then in the GridView_RowDeleting event, I'm preparing datasourceDeleteParameters with the Key that I want to delete in my database and call the

this.SqlDataSourceGridView.Delete ( );

The row is deleted in the database but, and here is the problem, there is something that before it got error and throws me that:

El procedure or funcion 'spDeleteGridView' waits the parameter '@PARAM', that what not expected.

I must add the information that debugging GridView_RowDeleting it ends normally and calls the GridView_RowDeleted...

Any help??

Thank you!!!

Gridview populate from stored procedure

I'm pretty new at web programming but a lot of years as a client-server dev.

I'm populating a gridview from a stored procedure, but I don't want to actually execute the populate till I have all the values filled in the page. (some are static textboxes, a calendar (date) value and some drop-downs that are populated earlier)

I see there's nothing like gridview1.show() like there is in c# windows form programming. I tried

protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
            GridView1.Enabled = true;
But I'm not sure that's correct. Any hints?

SQL timestamp in GridView and manually added update parameter for stored procedure in C#

I have a SQL table containing a timestamp column.  This table is displayed in ASP using GridView control.

The timestamp column is indicated in the DataKeyNames property of the GridView.

I'm using TemplateFields for all columns and a ItemTemplate HiddenField control connected to the timestamp column using Eval.

Adding Multiple Columns and Rows in GridView without using a Database

This article describes on how to add multiple columns and rows in GridView without using a database. Basically the GridView will be populated with data based on the values entered in each TextBoxes on Button Click and retain the GridView data on post back.

add columns with textboxes in gridview using C#

'm working on a shopping cart in a website and I have my items(which have been added to the cart) in an arraylist. And using these values I've read the rest of the values from the db and and have populated on the gridview successfully.

Sorting GridView Columns Manually

We all know that GridView columns can be sorted automatically when SQLDataSource is being used. But what if you are not using SqlDataSource to populate the GridView. Sorting the GridView manually is pretty straight forward task take a look at the code below
