Setting Auto-Rules in Cube Security Roles configuration

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello-

Our client's requirements for some Charts are simply:

1. Users with no access to specific Business Units (A Dimension with Parent-Child Hierarchy, refereed as BU from now) shall see the total amount (Revenues for example) of All Top Parent BUs but should not be able to drill down on any of the children BUs of the Top Parent BUs they don't have access to.

2. Users with full access to specific BUs shall be able to see the whole value of All Top  Parent BUs and their children BUs as well.

Example:

1. User with No Access to  BU 'A' shall see the total Value for this BU A, but cannot drill down to A1,A2,Ax.. which are children of A.

2. User with Full Access to  BU 'A' shall see the total Value for this BU A, and can drill down to A1,A2,Ax..

For disabling access to specific BUs with the ability to see their total values, I did the following in the cube security roles configuration (Consider the latter Example #1):

1. In the Dimension Data Page, I chose the radio box Select all members, And checked the box beside the BU A, unchecked all

unable to attach database, security setting?

Hi folks,

I am using VS 2010 Professional with SQL Server 2008 Developer.  I right click on the App_Data folder in solution explorer and add an existing item, then navigate to the correct database.  However, I receive a pop up that Access is Denied.  How do I fix this?

Membership.ValidateUser "The serviceUri configuration setting was not found."

Hello everybody!

I use Membership.ValidateUser to check user credentials, but when I do so, I get the following ArgumentException: "The serviceUri configuration setting was not found." I just can't understand what is the problem here.

Here is a part from my Web.config:

      <!--System.Data.SqlClient-->

Could not load type 'System.Security.Authentication.ExtendedProtection.Configuration.ExtendedProtec

I have a windows service that runs on client machines and connects to a WCF service on a server.  This windows service seems to work fine on Windows XP, Vista and 7  machines, but when I try and run it on a Server 2008 R2 machine I get the following error: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for system.serviceModel/bindings: Could not load type 'System.Security.Authentication.ExtendedProtection.Configuration.ExtendedProtectionPolicyElement' from assembly 'System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. (C:\Program Files (x86)\MyFolder\MyApp\MyAppWinSVC.exe.Config line 4) ---> System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'System.Security.Authentication.ExtendedProtection.Configuration.ExtendedProtectionPolicyElement' from assembly 'System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.    at System.ServiceModel.Configuration.HttpTransportSecurityElement.get_Properties() I have the 3.5 sp1 feature installed. The only thing I have found online that is remotely similar is this MS hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2262911 But when I try and apply it, it says that it isn't for my computer. Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Custom Code Security Setting

I am using custom code in couple of my SSRS reports. I can view the output on report manager, but in my BI development studio it shows me an error "An error occured during local report processing". I tried all the possible options to resolve the issue. I am adding the references of the assemblies System.Data and System.XML. Also i referred the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842419/en-us and tried all the steps to modify the code access security for custom assembly. I am clueless as in what to do next. Thanks, Chaitali

SSRS and Cube Roles on Internet

Hi, I have a question: I have two reports in ssrs report server sourcing a SSAS cube which is on a same server. Now i want the ssrs manager portal to connect by some user over the internet and i want to have roles in cube to that public user in the cube. The public user will not be the part of the domain user where the SQL Server instance is installed. The user is some external user. I am ol with building a custom asp.net portal for this also but the roles in the cube must be applied to public user. So when public user connect to portal and executes a SSRS report he should see the data for which he will be reposible. We can maintaina mapping table if required for the public users. Please let me know how to move forward on this

needed information about the roles of access for a cube

we have a cube (regarding insurance), which is accessed by users by an excel sheet? now they want to restrict the grand total view by the users depending on the user id, i.e there are AccountExecutives each AccountExecutive must be allowed to view only commision related to them. How can it be achieved? and where can I get the information related to the roles and the permissions to access dimensions and restricting access to data depending on user id s? (kindly provide as much detail as you can, because I am new to ssas)

Use of aspnetdb configuration for user login,roles and all

Hello,

I created a web application and i created the users,roles and all using the asp.net configuration,

the aspnetdb is created and i include that in my project adn run it it works fine.

then i copy the whole folder in my root folder of my IIS and it works perfectly fine

Now if i want to create the whole project into an exe such that  if i run the exe on a system that has iis on it,it should automatically create the virtual directory and i shud be able to run it from the new server.

i tried it but the login is not working,

Can you help me finding out the exact way in which i can create the login features using the asp.net configuration.

Association rules dimension error caused by setting the model algorithm

Hi,

I got this error meassage when I wanted to process a mined cube:

"Error (Data mining): An error occurred while the 'Bon_DMDim' data mining dimension with the 'Bon' source mining model was being processed. The algorithm of the source model returned data mining dimension content information that is not valid."

Before processing I modified only one algorithm parameter in the Association Mining model properties (AlgorithmParameters):

MINIMUM_SUPPORT = 10 (Default 0.0)

I need to have this adjustment for getting rules...

If I set back this field to 0 or empty, then the processing ends up with no error messages (and I would not have mined rules...).

I also get this message, if I use numbers between 0 and 1 (as a percentage).

How can I build a usable (but with adjusted algorithm parameter) mined dimension and apply it in an OLAP cube?

Thank you and BR,

Peter

Doubt on WorkingSetMinimum setting in SSRS 2008 configuration file

Hello All,

I have been reading about memory settings for SSRS 2008 for better performance in this link.                                                          http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159206.aspx  WorkingSetMinimum definition here says that "Specifies a lower limit for resource consumption; the report server will not release memory if overall memory use is below this limit."

Now, I have set the WorkingSetMinimum value as 2.4GB and when I am executing a report with 300K records, I observed in Perfmon that it has consumed around 1GB of available memory during report run time but the report server has not acquired the designated memory of 2.4GB in WorkingSetMinimum as I can see more memory as available MB than the value supposed to be after dedicating minimum memory of 2.4 GB to report server.

  1. My first question, has report server not acquired the minimum memory configured in WorkingSetMinimum because it didn't required that much memory to construct the report? &nb

Cube Security

I am having issues with cube security. I am trying to apply security to some cube dimensions so that users can only see data relating to their locations only. But this is only working up to the location level. That is a user from location AA only sees AA but when this location attribute is expanded, the users sees all the dealers in all the locations. My intention is to allow users to see all the dealers in their locations only.
I have create active directory groups for each location. The locations are AA, AB, AC, AD and AE. Each location has many dealers.
Here is what has been done:
1. Created cube roles as AA, AB, AC, AD and AE
2. Created active directory groups: USERS-AA, USERS-AB, USERS-AC, USERS-AD and USERS-AE.
For each role(e.g AA role), I did the following:
3. Under Membership, I added active directory group USERS-AA
4. Under Dimension Data, I applied security to 2 diemensions as shown below ( Location and Dealer Group Attribute):
i. Dealer dimension
	* Attribute Hierarchy
		* Location (under advanced – Allowed member set, I added: {[Dealer].[Location].&[AA]}
		* Dealer Attribute
		* Dealer Grouping
ii. Dealer Group
	* attribute Hierarchy
		* Alphabetic group
		* Dealer Group Attribute ( Filter({[Dealer Group].[Dealer Group Attribute].MEMBERS},([Dealer Group].CurrentMember.Properties("LOC AA") = "1")) )
		* LOC AA ( with a 0 or 1 value

ASP.NET Configuration Help, Security

I am using Visual Studio Express 2010 and SQL Server 2008 Express.

When I use the "Web Site Administration Tool" and click on "Security" I get the message "Unable to connect to SQL Server database."   I then click on "Choose Data Store".  I see "Your application is currently configured to use the provider: AspNetSqlProvider".  I click on "Select a single provider for all site management data".  I then click "Test".

I then get, "Provider Management" "Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."

I have run the aspnet_regsql utility and configured my database and copied it to my app_data folder.  Here are the contents of my web.config file for the site:

how do you balance admin and developer roles in managing security/audience and troubleshooting user

We're a 500-person services business, relatively new to SharePoint and recreating many legacy applications in SharePoint.  We have a couple developers and an administrator and have been trying very hard to segregate those roles.  The administrator controls Audiences, SharePoint groups, Distribution Lists, etc.  Developers have read access to Active Directory, but no rights to view or edit SP groups, Global Audiences, or Distribution Lists.   When user issues arise, the developer must always suspect a group membership problem but can't know enough to confirm or deny.

I would love to hear how others handle this.  Do your developers have admin rights? (And what problems does that cause?).  Do you have strict naming conventions to differentiate GA from SP from Dist List?  Do you have 3rd party tools to synchronize groups, so you can have perfect confidence that the Global Audience "Busboys" contains exactly the same users as the Active Directory group "Busboys?"  Is there a way for developers to have read-only access to the various groups so they can troubleshoot membership problems without endangering security?
