Using rs.exe to deliver reports does not connect to my shared datasource

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Following some advice on here, I created a .bat file that uses rs.exe and an rss file to deliver my reports to our Production Report Server. This delivers the reports OK but leaves them detached from the shared Datasource. All my reports use the same shared datasource so if I deploy using Visual Studio, I get a message that the Datasource was not replaced because I didn't specify that option in the deploy.

However, when I deliver the report using the batch file and rs.exe, I get a message "The data set 'xxx' refers to the shared data source 'yyyy', which is not publsihed on the report server. Well it is because I can see it there and all my other reports are using it fine. If I try and run the report, it fails because it is not attached to a Datasource. However, I can link that report to that datasource (the one the error message says is not published there) and it then runs fine. If I subsequently redeploy the report using the same .bat file, I get the same error message but now the report runs OK - presumably because I have manually associated it with that Datasource.

This is my RSS file:

Reporting Services: Deliver SQL Server Reports To SharePoint To Enhance Team Collaboration

The solution covered here includes a custom SharePoint Web service that accepts SQL Server-generated report files and, through the WSS object model, stores the file in the appropriate library for enhanced collaboration possibilities.

Shared Datasource in Windows integrated mode - Not able to use subscriptions -> is there an other op

Hi all,

We have a SharePoint 2007 and SSRS 2008 in intergrated mode. For cell security we use Windows authentication, which works well. Now we would like to use the create subscriptions option but it doesn't work since we use Windows authentication.

Is there an option to use Windows authentication for the ad hoc requesting of a report and the stored credentials for a subscription?

Shared Datasource Connection String Keeps Getting Wiped Out

I originally reported this on the TechNet site, but one of the moderators asked me to post here. Here's the link to that thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/a4c54e10-3d59-4d30-8264-bfc250b4cfbe

I have a report that has a main report query based off an OLAP cube. It also uses a shared datasource for other queries. There are times when I make a seemingly innocuous change to the report, like adding a border to a table cell, and when I go to preview the change, the report comes back to tell me:

[rsInvalidReportDefinition] The report definition is not valid. Details: The report definition element 'ConnectionProperties' is empty at line 13, position 9. It is missing a mandatory child element of type 'DataProvider'.
Build complete -- 1 errors, 0 warnings

I then have to go into the Datasource Properties window, just opening it and then hitting "OK" to close it again, to reinstate the connection string (even though it shows properly when I open the dialog box). The kicker is that it seems totally random. Sometimes the small change will require this action and other times it doesn't. Version information can be found on the TechNet posti

How to Connect SQL Reporting Services to a SharePoint Document Library (Shared Documents)

Hi experts,

I've read 1 article and already tested it, and it works for me to connect reporting services with SharePoint List

But my concern now with the same approach how can i connect to SharePoint Document Library (Shared Documents)

I've 1 shared document link, inside there we store all the pdf image that we scan. and each image created we define field/attribute at Edit Properties. Meaning we just not store the pdf image but also information input.

I've contact the owner of blog for long time but no response. Please advise Thanks in advanced.

Report Builder 3.0 Can NOT see 2005 built reports, report models or datasource

We have 2005 bids but have installed 3.0,  thought I would be able to use datasources and report models and retrieve RDL for review or changes.  Is this possible?  I sort of understand that If I want to republish these reports it would have to be on an 2008 installed instance of visial studio.

How far off am I and can any help or point me in the right direction,

Thanks in advance,

Sharepoint stsadm Restore from Back Up breaks all the deplyed reports link to datasource.

Hello Everyone,

Hoping to get some solution to the issue we are having.

Site backup and restore all works fine and completes successfully using STSADM utility. But after restore the deplyed reports looses the link to datasource.

Can somebody please guide on it?

Hide a repeater in ASP.NET C# if the DataSource contains no items?

I have an ASP.NET page that uses a repeater nested within another repeater to generate a listing of data. It's to the effect of the following:
In the (C#) code-behind I'm basically using LINQ to pull a listing of information from an XML document and bind that information to the first repeater.

Searching for the answer to this, it seems the method is to determine whether the data for the nested repeater is empty. If it is, then you set the visibility of the repeater to false.

Viewing Reports with SharePoint 2.0 Web Parts

Reporting Services provides several Web Parts that work with specific versions of a report server and in particular deployment modes. If you want to access report server content on a SharePoint site from a native mode report server, use the SharePoint 2.0 Web Parts that are included with Reporting Services. Instructions for installing and using the 2.0 Web Parts are provided in this topic.

Manually sorting and paging Gridview without using datasource control

Many a times while working with Gridview we want to work with the paging and sorting functionality without using any datasource control. Gridview is flexible enough to perform these tasks without the use of any datasource control and only a few lines of code.

could somebody give me example how I can connect to database only once if I use many models in contr

I use in my ASP.NET MVC application repository pattern and I use in controller for example 3 models:

   namespace MvcApplication1.Controllers
        public class HomepageController : Controller
            private IWebsitesRepository _repository_websites = new WebsitesRepository();
            private IFirmRepository _repository_firm = new FirmRepository();
            private IPhotosRepository _repository_photos = new PhotosRepository();

In WebsiteRepozitory, FirmRepository and PhotosRepository classes I have:

Database1Entities _entities = new Database1Entities();

So I have 3 connections to database ? Is it wrong ? How can I solve it ?

Dynamic Data, Domain datasource, Poco and lookups

Mr. Edward,

Excuse my question but: it is necessary to involve in our projects something more than just Dynamic Data or should we make use of all other features available in VS2010 (which will make assume taht they had been left out of the Dynamic Data framework) like: wef, poco, azure, wcf, cloud, mvc, silverllight, ajax, odata, agile, workflow, etc.?

Sorry my ignorance, I'm just transcribing names as they come to my mind and of which I don't know anything about

Session with Crystal Reports on IE 8

Having a very wierd problem.  I have an application that uses Crystal Reports and it uses what I have found to be a common scenario (I am not a CR expert in any way).  I have an ASPX page that gathers options for the report, and then it goes and gets the data and if there is some, a button appears for them to launch the report.  On clicking that button, the code sets some values in the HttpResponse.Context area, then performs a Server.Transfer to another ASPX page that is our Report Template.  This page contains the CR stuff and it generates a PDF version of the report.  It then does the following code:

 With HttpContext.Current.Response
            .ContentType = "application/pdf"
            .AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=Report.pdf")

Business Intelligence Reports Project in Visual studio 2008 ?

I wonder how to add a project template called  Intelligence Reports, something like that, to Visual studio 2008. I have SQL 2008 installed. Do I need to install some updates to get Intelligence Reports template to Visual studio 2008 ?

Thank you..
