.Net Regex engine seems to hang for the given expression and input

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 20, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework
Provided pattern:

Input Test
public List<String> TestFunction(string input, List<String> CategoryList, object[] obj)

Please provide an earliest answer/remedy for the provided expression. I have tried to find relevant documentation of bugs but have not found any clues. Tested on regex test engines as well. But behavior happens to be same in all the cases.

Is there anything such as a regular expression validator that will allow any input that won't all a

I need to create a regular expressin validation for textboxes in a webform.  But the problem is that I need to allow pretty much any characters, numbers, etc to be put in.  What is the best regular expression validator to allow this?

Looking for a RegEx expression to eliminate extra whitespace in a line

I have a db column that allows users to input freeform text for, say, a firm name. I would like to remove extra whitespace between names, such that "The   Irvine Company" would become "The Irvine Company". What is the best way to do this?

avoid application freeze from regex.macthes using user entered expression

To my chargrin, I discovered using time limited thread  for regexMatch will not allow abort and still freeze the application.

However the freezing can be avoided despite bad user greedy expression if we precede the the matches inside the thread with

 if (!myRegex.IsMatch (...))

  // some sort state setting including message protected internal variable to indicate timeout

// then the actual matches statment

here is a sample inner class that can be used to do time limted matches

 private class MkMatchSvr

 private string sInput;

 Regex myRegex;

 protected internal string sOut;

 protected internal bool bOut;

 protected internal MatchCollection myMatch;

does static Regex.Match(string input, string pattern, RegexOptions ops) cache ?

in msdn, it is said that static Regex.Match(string input, string pattern) caches for future uses,

but it doesn't say whether static Regex.Match(string input, string pattern, RegexOptions ops) caches.

Then does it cache? Does it help to promote performance at creation?

Using a CompareValidator to check input is a valid date

The CompareValidator can do more than just compare two controls. You can also compare it against several of the main .net data types such as Date, Integer, Double and Currency.

To do this you would set Operator="DataTypeCheck" and instead of setting the ControlToCompare or ValueToCompare attributes as you normally would you use the Type="Date" (or any of the data types I have listed above).

Validate form input - Japanese

 I've searched for several hours and haven't come up with a reference - or even many discussions - of how to go about validating Japanese names, addresses, etc. When I lived in Japan websites, atm's etc. required such info to be entered with the roman alphabet but I've seen some websites that are allowing Kanji/Hiragana/Katakana. I haven't tested many of them for validation but one that I did test (after looking at the page source and discovering no client-side validation) allowed me to put this in the name field: J*=123*go^ Neat!

Any pointers/references? Thanks

Regex pattern for validating IPv6

Can anyone can make a regular expression pattern for validating IPv6 (not IPv4)?

Ipv6 has many formats and aliases. I tried making the pattern but written in a lot of codes (i'm not sure my code below will be 100% accepting valid formats and 100% declines invalid formats).
