Intranet Users Challenged When Using Windows Integrated Security

We've setup an intranet site using Windows Integrated Security. Its up and running and users can access it. However, they are being challenged with a login dialog for the server when they initially access the site.

Isn't is possible to configure the server so that the users aren't challenged AND are recognized as being already authenticated by Windows? We're trying to go with a seamless experience, whereby all they have to do is login to their machine like normal and then go from there.

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

Rectangular Default Windows Button

Hi i am messing a bit with styles. I think the following code should make the normal "Button" rectangular, but on my Windows 7 machine only the left side of the button. The blue focus rectangle never changes its rounded corners. <Button> <Button.Resources> <Style TargetType="theme:ButtonChrome"> <Setter Property="RoundCorners" Value="False" /> </Style> </Button.Resources> Rectgangle Button </Button>  I used ' xmlns:theme="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Windows.Themes;assembly=PresentationFramework.Aero" '. modify/override properties of default sharepoint modal dialogs (ex. editview.aspx) using javascript

Hello all, I would like to know how can I modify (override) some properties of the default sharepoint modal dialogs using Javascript. Ex. the size and location of editview.aspx. I while ago I asked a question about overriding the DialogResult in the display view dialog. I got an answer from Zach which looked like this:             sb.Append("<script type=\"text/javascript\">");             sb.Append(@"window.setTimeout(function () {");             sb.Append(@"if (window.frameElement && typeof(window.frameElement.overrideDialogResult) == 'function')");             sb.Append(@"{");             sb.Append(@"SP.SOD.executeFunc('sp.ui.dialog.js', 'SP.UI.DialogResult.OK', function () {");             sb.Append(@"window.frameElement.overrideDialogResult(SP.UI.DialogResult.OK); ");             sb.Append(@"});");             sb.Append(@"}");

ASP.NET 5.0: Multiple logins and login types in default ASP.NET membership provider

What do you think about an ability of having multiple logins and login types to be attached to the same user? Let me explain this by showing how database schema can be re-factored to support this model:Remove [Password], [PasswordSalt] columns from [Users] database tableAdd [Logins] table with one-to-many relationship between [Users] and [Logins] tablesThis will allow one user to have multiple credentials attached to his or her account of different types such as Username&Password, Windows Live ID, Open ID from different providersYou will be able to restrict allowed login types and OpenID providers in web.config So.. do you think it is a good idea to add support of this model into ASP.NET 4.5/5.0 membership service?http://aspnet.codeplex.com/workitem/7149

In a group calendar, can items be made visiable to all users by default without adding them as atten

Well the title says it all really. We have a functioning sp 2010 site, setup this weekend, that's working great so far.  Primarily its being used for the company manual and procedures (a wiki site).  Search is working well and so on. I added a calendar with the intention of showing key company activities, plus holiday information and who's out at meetings.  We're a small company and this is unlikely to get ridiculously except on exceptional days. As it stands, when i create an item (for example someone out for a weeks holiday) unless another user adds one of the 'attendees' of the holiday event to the calendar it doesn't show up.  If I add all users as attendees then they can all see it by default. However, if I show that our chairman is attending a meeting at a client, then I can't explicitly say that the chairman is an attendee because for everyone to see it, they have to be attendees as well. I nsoed around a little and thought target audiences might be the way to go.  I configured all users and manager relationships, compiled the audience (it shows the right number of users).  However, if I setup a meeting with the chairman as an attendee, and the whole company audience as the target audience, then people still can't see it. Back to square one. So, is there an actual answer to this?  A different type of calendar, a query that

SQL Server Security > Logins vs. Databases > Security > Users

Why isn't all security needs done just in logins?  When migrating databases, the Logins are not brought over when restoring a backup.  It does not make sense.  Could it not be done all just in the Security > Logins area or why not?  That COULD be designed to track users and rights on various databases rather than a thing owned by each database....Thanks for your time.Gib

Differentiate between Windows Auth and Forms Auth users when authenticating against same AD with Sha

I am currently working on a SharePoint 2010 project where the environment is setup with a SharePoint web application using claims based authentication. The web app is created on port 8081 using Windows Authentication for auth, and extended to port 80 using Forms Based Authentication.

The forms authentication provider is setup to use the same active directory as the windows auth based site, using the following entries in the application's web.config (the entries are in the central administration and security token service web.config files as well):

        <membership defaultProvider="i">
        <add name="i" type="Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPClaimsAuthMembershipProvider, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" />
        <add name="FBA_AD_MP" type="System.Web.Security.ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" connectionStringName="ADFBAConnectionString" enableSearchMethods="true" attributeMapUsername="userPrincipalName" />

SQL 2005 Enterprise, Windows XP Pro, VB6, Concurrent Users

I am using a VB6 application as frontend on client machines and SQL 2005 Enterprise as backend database installed on Win XP Pro machine (4GB Mem/Core2Duo 2.6GHz).

Through the VB6 application, we use the following string to connect to SQL 2005 database.

login.connstring = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=pwd123;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=MYDB123;Data Source=XPProMachine"

The VB6 application, connects to the database, queries the database, displays the results, disconnect from database.

Are nested Windows groups supported as SQL Server 2008 logins?

I am attempting to configure a new SQL Server 2008 instance to use Windows authentication, and am encountering a problem when adding Windows domain groups as logins. Specifically, Windows users who are direct members of a Windows group that has been added as a login behave normally. Users who are members of groups that are, in turn, members of other groups which have been added as logins are unable to connect.

In a simplified example, consider the following:

Group: MYDOMAIN\DataViewers
  Member: MYDOMAIN\Hazel
  Member: MYDOMAIN\Seamus

Group: MYDOMAIN\DataEditors
  Member: MYDOMAIN\Vaughan
  Member: MYDOMAIN\Liesel

Group: MYDOMAIN\AllUsers
  Member: MYDOMAIN\DataViewers <-- This is a group
  Member: MYDOMAIN\DataEditors <-- This is a group

If I add the MYDOMAIN\AllUsers group as a SQL Server login (and map it to some databases), none of the end users (i.e. Hazel, Seamus, Vaughan, Liesel) can connect. If I add the MYDOMAIN\DataViewers or MYDOMAIN\DataEditors groups as logins, though, their members can connect. Similarly, if I add an end user directly to the AllUsers group, they can connect normally.

It appears as if the nested group model I had envisioned is not supported in SQL Server 2008, but I have been unable to find any documents that state this conclusively. Therefore, my q

Programatically Find Out All Existing Windows Users,Groups Using VB.Net or C#.Net

Hi to all

What I need is to enumerate all existing windows user-groups (those like Administrators, Power-Users etc. but even my own created groups, I think you know what I mean) - all within some C# code.

I thought this might be easy but I searched all the Internet to find the solution, however, I still can't do it...

Is there anybody who could help me ???
Thanks a lot, I really really need your help.

How to set the default culture Info for all thread of an application independant from the Windows UI

A classic 'european' topic?

I am working with Windows7Pro in German, and VS2010 in English. I whish I had all exception handling in english.
Thus, I set the explicly the current culture to english:
 var culture = new CultureInfo("en-us");
 Application.CurrentCulture = culture;
        Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = culture;
        Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = culture;

But I do still have some exception in German, because 'by design', .NET Framework considers the Windows UI language as default culture when a new thread in created (e.g. by GUI controls), as I read here http://www.dotnetmonster.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/winform/14177/setting-culture-of-threads

What is the motivation for such a design? It has always been a problem for us in Europe working with multi languages: it is quite difficult to ensure the software is working properly whereever it is rolled out.
Is there a way to define the default culture of all children threads?

Feedback requested: Default schemas for Windows groups

We want to seek your feedback on understanding the scenarios where you need to assign default schemas to Windows groups.  Based on the requests we have received and reading through one of the longest threads on this issue (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlsecurity/thread/7d46a024-7ed5-4c9b-b091-3640dc04f5a1/), it seems there are multiple solutions that people are trying to achieve using default schemas:

-          Have a default schema as part of the user's session that is set up by the application (through something like SET DEFAULT_SCHEMA = <foo>).  Any objects referenced or created will be bound to that schema.

-          Have a setting in SQL where it rejects any object reference without a schema.  This enforces the app to always use 2 part names (best practice).  This works best when you have access to the application source code or are writing a new application.
