what are the best ways to create left hand navigation?
So that administrator of the site will be able to add or remove the nodes of left hand navigation on fly?

I have a team site with publishing site template as my Home page. I have created some subsites using publishing site templates. In the sub-sites ,I am not able to see the left navigation, it gives me a page with contents but the left navigation
pane is missing.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thx in Advance.
This might be another novice question but i really googled and searched this site and didnt find any answers (even though topics close to this are discussed, this one isnt).
Scenario: I have a webpart i wrote that shows people who has birthday and provides sorting tools (in exact month/ exact day/ name contains string). This webpart has to be displayed as the page's content (in the center, its ~900px wide). This page must have
the site menu on the left as well so users can navigate freely.
I tried to create a new webpart page in MOSS and successfully placed the webpart there, but the page wont have the left site menu.
I need that left menu!
I tried creating a web page from a template with a strip (sorry cant find better word to explain that) on the left but that strip only allows to add more webparts, and doesnt allow to show the menu there.
How do i show the website menu (the one with links to Tasks, Lists, Users etc, the one that always shows itself on the /sites/sitename/ page and when viewing Lists) on my web part page?
Or do i have to go other way, meaning, not by using a web part page, but with some other way, like create an aspx page or something?

I wanted to create a simple masterpage that has no top & left navigation plus sharepoint links such as site actions, welcome etc. I will still want the same color schema that sharepoint pages such as newform.aspx or editform.aspx has.
The first step I tried was to create masterpage using sharepoint designer. I created new masterpage but it is totally blank but seems fine to me except that I want to have those typical sharepoint Newform.aspx look & feel (the navy blue style color around
the input fields in newform.aspx).
How can I extend the masterpage?
If there are any readily available simple masterpage I can download (I tried with basemasterpage from heather soloman but somehow when I tried to delete the unwanted ones I see warning or errors on the code view).
IF I need to create masterpage using visual studio, I can look into that.
I am a beginner to SP 2010/ SharePoint Designer and I want to customize the standard left navigation for the v4 master page to display
a structure based on headings. I want:
The navigation to by dynamic
the headings to be clickable
