Hansel and Gretel had the right idea when "they followed the pebbles that glistened there like newly minted coins, showing them the way. " The deeper you get into the forest or into your data, the more likely you are going to need help to find your way back out again.

I have some custom ASPX pages that I used in Sharepoint 2007 that I am now putting onto Sharepoint 2010. They use the layouts.sitemap file to update the breadcrumb trail when they are navigated to in Sharepoint. However when I put them into Sharepoint 2010
and make the same modifications to layouts.sitemap the breadcrumb trail is not updating correctly. It is only showing the current page in the breadcrumb and not where it was navigated from.
Any ideas why this would not work in Sharepoint 2010?
I am using wicked code sqlsitemapprovider and it's VB version. Most of the things are going OK! But when I wanted to hide some of the nodes from appearing on menu while staying shown on sitemappath I cannot figure it out. I tried to change the sqlsitemapprovider code but was unsuccessfull. I have found David Sussman's answer. but it was for a .sitemap file. So how can I manage to do the same with the sql sitemap provider mentioned above.
I added a column named visible to my SiteMap table it's type is bit and then I have done these changes (Sorry for such long code):
We have a dynamic sitemap and all nodes in the sitemap display a breadcrumb.
Is it possible to have the breadcrumb still showing, but make the link in the sitemap invisible or non-clickable?
Reason for this is that...we dont want users to select some pages from the sitemap (becasue they need to conduct a search first to populate a datagrid) and clicking on the link will only take them to an empty page.
I tried just removing the url, or having a blank title, but that didn't work.
perhaps a stylesheet and display none or something..?
ive recently taken over the job of maintaining the company website and have been asked to remove the breadcrumb on our sharepoint site...
so i located the master page and found the breadcrumb within that page.
<!--- --- --- Breadcrumbs --- --- --->
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderTitleBreadcrumb" runat="server">
<asp:SiteMapPath EnableTheming="false" ID="siteMapPath" Runat="server" SiteMapProvider="CurrentNavSiteMapProviderNoEncode"
RenderCurrentNodeAsLink="false" PathSeparator=" > " CurrentNodeStyle-CssClass="breadcrumbCurrent" NodeStyle-CssClass="ms-sitemapdirectional"/>
I would like the breadcrumb to show:
Root site > subsite level 1 > subsite level 2 > page
Instead, if I am on ... for example ... subsite level 2, the breadcrumb just shows
Subsite level 2 > home
Question 1: How do I get the full breadcrumb to show (it did in SP 2007)
Question 2: What is with this "home" tagged onto the end? How do I get rid of that?
An aside ... as a designer, I think it is absolutely critical that SP provide a way to show users EXACTLY where they are at all times. And it is even harder to do that with 2010 than it was with 2007, at least as far as I can tell. Admittedly,
I feel like I'm working with blindfolds on and my hands behind my back ... pecking my way through.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Is there any way to display breadcrumbs for ListView Webparts in Sharepoint 2007.

How Can I get breadcrum on the Webpart page.
We have developed bilingual (Englsh/Arabic) variations portal. The page breadcrumb on the home page shows "Home > Home". On other pages it shows like "Home > Home > HR". How we can get rid of the extra Home link of site collection.
