Can't remove instance from clustered server

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi ,

I'm using SQL Server 2008 and I have on Active-Active Cluster on
a Windows Server2008.

I have one SQL instance on that Server. The other node I had SSAs wich I want to uninstall and be with another instance of SQL.
I had SSIS has a clsutered here also.

I unistalled the SSAS and made Prepare SQL to Cluster intallation on Node 1 (that already had one SQL instance).

When I tried to Complete the SQL Failover clustered installation I cannot reach the instance and after a few atteps I cannot connect with SSIS on this clustered.

I cannot remove the SQL instance from ADD/Remove Programs because it gives me the error that this instance is used has a cluster.

So this is what I want to do:

-Remove the instancethat says that is clustered but I can't see the cluster on Failover Clustered Administration.
-Setup SSIS as a clustered service on the instance that was previous installed(I can reach the SSIS editing SQL Agent Job but I can't connect through Database Engine.Through the Agent all the packages are unreacheable but visible.)

I already See that I can't add features to a clustered installation but I read that it's possible to Add SSis if I stop both nodes. How can I stop both nodes to install SSIS.

The SQL Server failover cluster instance name 'Server02' already exists as a clustered resource. S

Hello, I have a node of 2 servers of Win 2008 R2 Enterprise and trying to install a 2nd instance in a SQL 2008 R2 Cluster. I had SQL_INSTANCE2 previously installed that I removed from the two nodes. Now when I attempt to install it again from scratch, in setup GUI where I specify the SQL Server Network Name and enter the previously entered name "Server02", I get a failure in the setup with the following error message: "The SQL Server failover cluster instance name 'Server02' already exists as a clustered resource. Specify a different failover cluster instance name." How do I fix this problem, I don't want to enter a new name like "Server03" in order to proceed with the setup, because when I do enter "Server03" the setup does continue without an error message. So what am I missing? Do I have to ask the DNS administrator to see if there's an A record for "Server03" and have him delete it so that the setup works? Or the fix is by doing something else? I would appreciate any help. Thank you

SQL Server Express2008 R2 brings app down, instance problem

I have tried dozens of changes and modifications to many settings as I will outilne here and all to no avail.

The short answer here though is that I uninstalled SQL Sever Express 2008 R2 and went back to the "NON" 2008 R2 and got things working. But like the fool I am wanted to run on the more current rev and updated again, all problems returned....

SPECS

Server:

Win Server 2003 R2 SP2

SQL SERVER EXPRESS 2009 R2

VWD2008 Express (removed)

IIS 6

Workstation:

XP Sp3

VWD2008 Express

SQL Server Express 2008

I was orginally getting this message after updating to SQL Sever Express 2008 R2, I removed VWD 2008 Express from the web server, no good, then uninstalled SQL Server 2008 Express R2 and reinstalled SQL Server 2008 Express. worked but had issues, couldn't install MGTM Studio. Then I removed SQL 2008, cleaned folders and reg. Reloaded SQL Server 2008 Express, still flaky, couldn't get the Management Studio to install. So I removed it again and used the Web Platform Installer, which worked but loaded 2008 R2 again. Which brought back the message.

Instance and Default connection properties on SQL Server 2005

We had a sql server fail and I have been having troubles.  I compared the connection properties on the server properties and noticed that multiple default settings are no longer set.  So I'm wondering if during the failure these could have some gotten flipped.  DB's that worked all of a sudden don't work and we had to migrate to a different instance.  I have never changed any of the setings below and wonder what impact they would have if I changed them back to the default of an installed instance? ansi warning is checked ansi padding is checked ANSI NULLS is checked arithmetic abort is checked quoted identified is checked No Count is checked concat null yields null is checked Could anyone tell me how clearing these checked options will impact my db?   -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCITP: Enterprise Administrator MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, Vista, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com    Twitter @pbbergs Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

SSMS on networked machine - can see server but not instance

Hi, We have been running sql server 2008 enterprise on a single networked machine (SBS 2008) which is also runs DHCP and DNS.  We have bought a new server to just run SQL Server 2008 and I cannot manage to connect to it via SSMS from my laptop - I can see the server but not the instance.   Here is roughly what I have done: Installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise on the box Installed SQL Server 2008 Enterprise on the box Create a named instance Configured instance to listen on TCP 1533 Created a new firewall rule to allow traffic through on TCP 1533 Created a new rule for sqlsrvr.exe on the firewall I have the services loging on with the following accounts: SQL Server Integration Services 10.0 = DOMAIN\dbadmin = running = automatic SQL Server Analysis Services = DOMAIN\dbadmin = running = automatic SQL Server (namedinstance) = DOMAIN\dbadmin = running = automatic SQL Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher = NT AUTHORITY\LocalService = running = manual SQL Server Reporting Services = NT AUTHORITY\LocalService = running = automatic - this is installed but not configured SQL Server Agent = DOMAIN\dbadmin = Stopped = manual SQL Server Browser = LocalSystem = running = automatic When I log onto the new box as a domain user and log into management studio on my laptop I can then suddenly see the instance and connect. It sounds to me that it is a permissions / acc

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User

Could someone help with this please? I'm using VWD 2010 to build a new web site - I tried to add a new database file but it won't do it. I started by clicking on the folder 'App_Data', then right clicking and selecting 'Add new item' - after that I tried to add an SQL Server Database but received this message...  'Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User Instance' What does this mean? How do I start the 'Process for the User Instance'?  I imagined all that was done for me at the install stage, when I installed VWD2010, but it appears not.  Thank you for any help at all.    Regards

WCF - First call to Callback instance from Server takes considerable time to make it to the client.

Hello. There's a performance problem we are facing that we are unable to fix using DuplexChannels. The first call made by the client to the server reaches the server instantly. The first call made by the server to the first client using a Callback proxy will take several seconds to reach the client. All subsequent calls to the client (as well as other clients) will reach and execute instantly. The client connects to the Server using a proxy to IServiceProvision, supplies an instance to an implementation of IClientCallback and calls IServiceProvision.Start(). The server instantly processes the call and makes an asynchronous call to IClientCallback.DoWork(), which takes several seconds to enter the client's DoWork() implementation. The remainder of the execution then runs smoothly. Also, the server will experience such a slowdown only for the very first call of the first client that connects to it. Is it normal for the Callback interface to take so much time to warmup, only on the first call to the first client? Below is the full source code. Thanks for any information you may provide. Cheers Mike Shared Class Library using System.ServiceModel; namespace Test { [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://test/IService", CallbackContract = typeof(IClientCallback))] public interface IServiceProvision { [OperationContract] void Start(); [OperationContract] void

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local appl

Hello everybody.I am working on Login control and I am new in ASP.NET. So far what I did is :1. In Website->ASP.NET Configuration I change the form authentication to internet.2. I created a user profile3. This gave me a ASPNETDB.mdf database.4. I added this code :<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> in web.config file.4. I added login control to my login page :<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" Title="Untitled Page" %><asp:Content ID="MainContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContentPlaceHolder" Runat="Server"> <h1>Please Login</h1> <asp:Login ID="LoginAuth" runat="server" > </asp:Login></asp:Content> 5. named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.
