I forgot my SA password for my instance of SQL 2000

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi all,

I have SQL 2000 and I forgot my SA password and cannot login as administrator using windows authentication.

Is there any way to reset SA password?

"Mixed Mode" authentication is enabled.

If I change authentication mode in register to Windows only and then after restarting SQL change it back to Mixed, will it reset SA password to "null"?

Thanks in advance.

The error message returned is "[SQL-DMO]Code execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" I have another server with the same SQL2000 and SQL2005 instances set up which is monitored in the same manner but is not reporting these errors

Forgot Password

Hi

I am trying to create a forgot password section within my login section and it doesnt seem to work.

In my forgotpassword.aspx page my code looks like this:

<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">
<aspasswordRecovery ID="PasswordRecovery1" runat="server" Height="224px"
Width="295px"
SubmitButtonText="Get Password" SubmitButtonType="Link">
<MailDefinition From="soccervillage@yahoo.com"
Subject="Your new password"
BodyFileName="PasswordRecovery.txt" />
</aspasswordRecovery>

</asp:Content>

In my webconfig page the code looks like this:

<system.net>
<mailSettings>
<smtp from="soccervillage@yahoo.com">
<network host="localhost" password="password" userName="username" />
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</system.net>

I then have created a text file which is called PasswordRecovery.txt and looks like this:

How to Encrypt and Decrypt a Password using SQLSERVER 2005?(Video)

Encypt and Decrypt a Password using SQLSERVER 2005(Video)

symmetric key protected by a password

An alternative could be using a symmetric key protected by a password, as long as your application generates the CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY and OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY statements directly instead of calling them inside a SP (otherwise the password will still be passed as a parameter, and will be in clear in the profiler).

Use Membership but bypass / disable password usage for users

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)

I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.

Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?

SQL Server Express2008 R2 brings app down, instance problem

I have tried dozens of changes and modifications to many settings as I will outilne here and all to no avail.

The short answer here though is that I uninstalled SQL Sever Express 2008 R2 and went back to the "NON" 2008 R2 and got things working. But like the fool I am wanted to run on the more current rev and updated again, all problems returned....

SPECS

Server:

Win Server 2003 R2 SP2

SQL SERVER EXPRESS 2009 R2

VWD2008 Express (removed)

IIS 6

Workstation:

XP Sp3

VWD2008 Express

SQL Server Express 2008

I was orginally getting this message after updating to SQL Sever Express 2008 R2, I removed VWD 2008 Express from the web server, no good, then uninstalled SQL Server 2008 Express R2 and reinstalled SQL Server 2008 Express. worked but had issues, couldn't install MGTM Studio. Then I removed SQL 2008, cleaned folders and reg. Reloaded SQL Server 2008 Express, still flaky, couldn't get the Management Studio to install. So I removed it again and used the Web Platform Installer, which worked but loaded 2008 R2 again. Which brought back the message.
