Replication option SQL 2005 Standard Edition

Hi, We are using SQL 2005 Standard Edition.  We would like to use Replication for one of our database. I would like to know answers for the questions. 1. Can we use Replication features with SQL 2005 Standard Edition 2. Can we use DR site with replication for the reporting purpose?  Is there any risks associated with option? 3. Do we still need to take transaction log backup on the production server if we use replication.   Thanks.

Openquery - truncation problem (converting data from Oracle 10g to SQL 2005)

I am having problems with data truncating when inserting into a SQL 2005 db from Oracle 10g- using openquery and a linked server.   For instance, if I run something like:

insert dbo.CWDocumentStaging
select * from openquery(LK_Snomass,'select RSFORM.REPRESENTATION as REPRESENTATION
       , DOCUMENT.DOCUMENT_ID as DOCUMENT_ID
    , DOCUMENT.DOCUMENT_TEXT as DOCUMENT_TEXT')

The results of the blob data are only 202 hexademical characters in length.  And then when I convert it to varchar, the results are cut-off.  For instance, on a particular test record that I converted, here is what I have in the SQL database (using):

select convert(varchar(max), DOCUMENT_TEXT), DOCUMENT_TEXT from dbo.CWDocumentStaging

I get the following:

for Document_Text, I get the following:

0x74686973206F6C64206D616E2C20686520706C61796564206F6E652C20686520706C61796564206B6E69636B2D6B6E61636B206F6E206D79207468756D6220776974682061206B6E69636B2D6B6E61636B20706164647920776861636B20676976652061

then for convert(varchar(max), DOCUMENT_TEXT):

If I insert the data running the query against the linked server directly, the data does not truncate

Steps by Step document for configuration Merge Replication in 2005

Hi , Can anyone provide link to configure Merge Replication in 2005 with print screen. Also let me know the difference between Transcation level and Merge Replication. regards Vijay

SQL Server 2005 Merge Replication

We did the following: We setup a database with all of standard tables, views, etc. We then put in place merge replication for a few of the tables within this database, including a tables called "Areas". We can execute SQL statements to insert rows into this table fine. We then applied an update script for this database to change a few tables by adding fields and changing indexes, etc.  We didn't change the "Areas" table though. After the update to the database structure, we get an error when trying to insert into this "Areas" table. The error message was the following: The insert failed. It conflicted with an identity range check constraint in database 'AETest', replicated table 'dbo.Areas', column 'AREPrimaryId'. If the identity column is automatically managed by replication, update the range as follows: for the Publisher, execute sp_adjustpublisheridentityrange; for the Subscriber, run the Distribution Agent or the Merge Agent.  The statement has been terminated.   What would cause such a problem and how do we resolve it?  The structure of the "Areas" table before and after the update is the following: USE   [AETest] GO /****** Object: Table [dbo].[Areas] Script Date: 08/24/2010 17:42:36 ******/ SET   ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET   QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO SET   ANSI_PADDING ON

(Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL21001) The above shown message is the one message which i am getting while replicating from oracle to SQL. In development it is working but not in Prod. What is the solution of above error for failed subscription?

Problem Integration SQL Reporting Service 2005 and SharePoint 2007

Hello, I'm trying to make our SQL Reports available on our SharePoint report center. I have SQL 2005 (sp3) report server that resides on a different server than our SharePoint 2007 server. So in our SRS Configuration Tool, we changed the database mode for SharePoint integration (before, we only had it in native mode), so we created a new database for this SharePoint Integration type. Next, I installed the Report Server Add-in for SharePoint 2007 server and it was successful. However when configuring the Report Server, we got stuck at the step "Grant Database Access". For some reason we keep getting error message "Named instance not found" We already installed Service Pack 3 on the Report Server... I heard that the problem is because the mismatched version between the Report Server Add-in in SharePoint and the SQL RS version... but I don't think this is the case for us. Do we need to install WSS on our Report Server too?     Another question: We already integrate our Report Server with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. However I see that when the Report Server is in the SharePoint Integration mode, all the reports in CRM don't work (because Report Manager is no longer available in this mode). Do you think it would be the best practice to install a copy of Report Server instance in our SharePoint 2007 server? Thank you, greatly appreciate all your hel

SSIS 2005 - Send Mail Task - signature appended to email is garbled - unicode problem?

Hi, I'm pretty new to SSIS so go easy on me. I have a Send Mail Task to notify if a file cannot be imported - the mailbody is created on the previous step by a VB.NET script task to include the name of the file and the path it's been archived to. The problem I'm having is that while the body of the email I've created is displaying fine, our company's Exchange server appends a signature to all emails, and this is coming up as undisplayable characters, presumably due to some kind of unicode encoding problem. I've tried casting the email body in an expression to DT_STR (doesn't work as DT_STR "cannot be converted to a supported type" which seems a bit odd but never mind), DT_WSTR (garbled signature), DT_TEXT/DT_NTEXT (strange error on this one - "Attempted to read or write protected memory") none of those ideas worked, and I'm a bit stumped now. Can anyone help? I'm using SSIS 2005 with SP3

ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 Standard (on windows xp) with Windows authentication does NOT wor

I reviewed lots of postings, still could not find an answer. If I choose Windows authentication: - with TCP/IP and "Dynamically determine port" checked, I get the following error "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection; - with Named Pipes, Server Name & Pipe Name as "VSAXAONG", I get two errors, one after the other on the same pop-up:       Connection failed  SQL State 01000  SQL Server Error 1385 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] ConnectionOpen (Connect()).       Connection failed  SQL State 08001 SQL Server Error 17 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I choose SQL Server authentication and fill in the password - the ODBC connection works fine. I have to say that I created two different logins on the server, one for Windows authentication, and one for SQL Server authentication - both for the same Windows user name. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thank you all in advance.

Export to CSV w/ grouping problem after 2005 upgrade

Hi,After upgrading to reporting services 2005 from 2000, reports that used to export to CSV correctly don't now. It appears the CSV export suddenly stops at a table with grouping. Any ideas would be appreciated...Thanks.

Issue with transactional replication on SQL 2005 SP3 using row filters with bit columns

We recently upgraded from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 SP3 and I am noticing something that I think is a bug with replication from a publication that has an article in it with row filters.  It seems to be that if the row filter has columns that are bit datatype and that column is updated on the publisher to cause the row filter to exclude it, it is not removed from the subscriber.  If you update a column that is part of the row filter that is not a bit datatype it works as expected.  I can reproduce this in a test environment with a small base table.  In production this is resulting in an occasional 20598 error "The row was not found at the Subscriber when applying the replicated command". Is anyone aware of a hotfix that addresses this? I can think of a few work arounds but the table is rather large and I really would like to avoid having to pull replication, re-snap or changing datatypes on the base table etc. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
