SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.

VB.NET - store HTML code in SQL Server

Hey guys/gals!!

Quick question - I want to allow someone to enter HTML markup in a control, and save the input exactly as entered.

I want people to put a minimum of 50 words, to maximum of 500, and be able to save the formatting of their text in SQL 2005 server database.

Also, I understand this is two questions, but how do I save metadata of an image file in the sql database? I mean, I get the gist of it, but how do I do it?

Thanks everyone!

Problems with single quote character when attempting to export data from SQL Server

Hi, I am attempting to use the following query, which works fine when run in sql server management studio, to export data: SELECT             '1',             isnull(left(DISTRICT,1),' '),             isnull(left(CTV,2),'  '),             isnull(left(CTV2,5),'     ')           FROM [CensusData].[dbo].[MainQuestionnaire$] The export command follows: EXEC xp_cmdshell 'bcp "SELECT             '1',             isnull(left(DISTRICT,1),' '),             isnull(left(CTV,2),'  '),             isnull(left(CTV2,5),'     ')             FROM [CensusData].[dbo].[MainQuestionnaire$]" queryout "C:\bcptest.txt" -T -c -t -S "MYSERVER"' The error is: Incorrect syntax near '1'. I believe that the problem is with the single quote characters but don't know how to fix it. I am using SQL Server 2005 Express edition. Please help.

FtpWebRequest - Access to IBM AS/400 FTP Server - 501 Character (/) not allowed in object name.

Hello everybody

I'm trying to communicate with an AS/400 FTP Server. As a first try I just execute the WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectory method, which translates to the NLST FTP command. Doing the same accessing a Microsoft FTP Server or a UNIX FTP Server works fin.

This is the code to get the listing:

Dim Uri As System.Uri = New System.Uri(listUrl)
Dim listRequest As FtpWebRequest = CType(WebRequest.Create(Uri), FtpWebRequest)
listRequest.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(User, Password)listRequest.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectory
listRequest.KeepAlive =

Unable to set up a new Secure Store Service Application in a single-server installation

Problem: after initial SharePoint installation, I tried to add the Secure Store Service Application under "Manager Services Applications".  The process screen returns something like "The time job created.  But failed to start in one or more servers in the farm."  Further investigation found that in the SQL Server, the secure service account was not added under the Login user accounts.  The Secure_Store_Service_DB has been created, but not under the name of secure store service account.  In another word, the database was created but the action seems to be incomplete.

Background: this is a single server farm installation on Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 R2, with AD CS and AD DS, DNS roles enabled on the same box.  The configuration task was running with the farm admin account which is also a domain admin, and has dbcreator, securityadmin, and sysadmin roles in the SQL server.

SQL Server 2005 store procedure performance issue

We are calling store procedure from vb.net client following are the observation.

1) sqlserver 2005  takes huge amount of time (more than 1 hour) to execute procedure. The procedure has select statement using join statement. (Generally this procedure executes and populate data in 5 seconds when it is called from .net client.)

2) If same procedure is executed from sql server management studio, procedure executes and populate data in 5 seconds (works as per expectation)

3) If we recompile procedure (i.e. open procedure in alter mode in management studio and click on execute button) ,  the procedure executes and populate data as per expectation.

4) This is intermittent issue on production machine. Most of the time procedure is executed and populate data as per expectation when called from vb.net client. But it does not give expected outout in some scenario. The frequency for occurring the issue is  once in 15 days and there is no pattern in which the issue is occurring.

Can any one help to resolve the issue.

Thanks in advance!!!

In what certificate store should we put server's certificates?

hi

Assume system S owns a certificate C . The following quote suggests that if C is to be used by S's service apps to authenticate themselves to clients, then C should be stored in LCS . But if C is to be used by S's client apps to authenticate themselves to a service, then C should be stored inside CUS :

" • The local computer store (LCS). This contains the certificates accessed by machine processes, such as ASP.NET. Use this location to store certificates that authenticate the server to clients.

• The current user store (CUS). Interactive applications typically pl
