System.ArgumentException : The input workflow type must be an Activity.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

Hi everyone! I’m getting this error when starting up the workflow:

System.ArgumentException : The input workflow type must be an Activity.
Parameter name: workflowType

The code I’m using is shown below:

using (var wf = new WorkflowRuntime())
  wf.WorkflowCompleted += (_, __) => signal.Set();
  wf.WorkflowTerminated += (_, __) => signal.Set();
  var args = new Dictionary<stringobject>();
  args.Add("Input", plainText);
  var inst = wf.CreateWorkflow(typeof (HtmlTypography), args

A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll

I've read a bit about this error and maybe I have nothing to worry about.  BUT ... my simple little app gets 7 of these before it even gets to the first Dim statement in the Class Form1!  I found and followed instructions on how to have the Debugger intercept these exceptions but it seems that they are not being intercepted.  I only know that they have happened because of the messages in the Immediate Window.  In the Designer all I have is 5 Labels and 5 TextBoxes.   Any thoughts on how I could get to the cause of these messages? Thanks,  Bob

Custom sequence activity deriving from System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity

Hi, I try to create custom sequence activity. I found some sample (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wfprerelease/thread/f54e8eb2-29d9-46f6-ad96-766fe6fad333/). But this custom activity looks ugly (to separate nested activity using ellipses instead of arrows). My question is - how to create custom sequence activity, which will look like sequence activity. I also found this sample - <ContentPresenter x:Uid="ContentPresenter_1" Content="{Binding}" Style="{x:Static sacdt:DesignerStylesDictionary.SequenceStyle}"/> When I used this ContentPresenter my custom activity looks like System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity, but I couldn't put on it another activity. I also created class, which derives from System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity, but I couldn't see it in toolbox. My question is - how to create class, which derives from System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity and is visible in toolbox or how to use ContentPresenter for sequence activity, which allows put on itself another activity.

Passing parameters of type List<> from a web application to the Receive activity of a workflow servi

I have a Recieve activity with the following parameters in the Content property.  Using generic parameter names here:

- parameter1 of type Object1 assigned to Parameter1 variable

- parameter2 of type List<Object2> assigned to Parameter2 variable.  Note - default value of Parameter2 variable = New List(Of Object2)()

- parameter3 of type Object3 assigned to Parameter3 variable

In my web application, I create a service reference and create a client as such:

SomeWFServiceClient client = null

 client = new
 List<Object2> listOfObject2 = new
 List<Object2> { new
 Object2 {Id=1, Name="SomeName"
, Type="Customer"
 }, };

client.ProcessSomething(Object1, listOfObject2, Object3);

I have a breakpoint at the Receive activity.  When I look at the values that get assigned to the Receive activity parameters, I see that parameter1 and parameter3 ge

Workflow Constructor Error: Could not create activity of type '{Workflow}'

If I attempt to new-up a custom class in my Workflow constructor:

_workflowInfo =

... I receive the following error:

Error 1 Could not create activity of type '{Workflow}'. System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.

Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on VS workflow designer

Referring to the post below. It seems that the current VS workflow designer only support "Activity" type as a root document. Is there a plan to support a custom activity type as a root document in xaml on next release of WF?

SQL Tracking Service XAML only (Type, Workflow and Activity db tables)

Ok, we've implemented workflow completely into our system now and I've starting to see the tracking database grow fairly quickly, which was expected

I am now working on a purge routine and or partitioning.

What I have noticed is that the Workflow and Type db tables will constantly grow no matter what.  They are not considered "partitioned" tables.

My main question is the architectural decision around this XAML only approach of tracking versus the code behind\beside approach.  I have a hypothesis I will present below.

In code behind\beside.

System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPerm

Good Day all,

Having an issue with an outside user accessing my IIS7 box. I do not have this problem when running the website from my host machine. I found this post: Http://forums.asp.net/t/1371394.aspx. I assure you that this is not a solution because I am not storing any of my files on a network share.

What do you think my approach should be.

I already have read rights to IIS user to my BIN folder.

Thanks for the help.

The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must

This is frustrating, and I don't know how to solve it.

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

        protected void LinqDataSource_ContextCreating(object sender, LinqDataSourceContextEventArgs e)
            e.ObjectInstance = new KaruselaDataContext(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);

Then I get this error:
The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

Types in Yukon: Managed UDTs Let You Extend the SQL Server Type System

The next version of SQL Server, code-named "Yukon," will offer enhanced support for user-defined types (UDTs). Because UDTs can be managed by the CLR, you can represent a wide variety of data structures to create types not possible with previous versions of SQL Server. With UDTs you can more precisely control the kind of data your type accepts, resulting in better data management. This article explores UDTs in "Yukon" and covers their design and implementation.

Exchange 2000: Web Storage System, Workflow Tools, and CDO Turbocharge Collaboration Apps

Microsoft Exchange 2000, the upcoming version of Exchange Server for Windows 2000, provides many new features including integration with Active Directory, Web Storage System events and forms, and a new version of Collaboration Data Objects (CDO). Exchange 2000 also provides a workflow engine and design tool to create workflow applications. This article will give you an overview of these new features and looks at ways to do a few standard tasks with the new version of CDO. Also included is a sample workflow application that manages the posting of messages to a public server to illustrate the new workflow engine and workflow design tool.
