Good place to define ContextMenu

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Probably this is a stupid question, but I am very confused on which is a good place to define a ContextMenu.

My application has Docking panel and the context menu needs to be shown on the panes. I wish to handle the Click event of the menuitem.

Is app..xaml a good place. Is it advisable to add code in the app.xaml.cs?

Good way to do a Many-to-Many relationship?

I've used the automatic  Many-to-Many generation as described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd742359.aspx

But that doesn't seem to allow a quantity to be attached to orders (in the example it would be courses). I have many customers and many products, I would like a customer to be able to order more than one product. Right now I get a grid of checkboxes. I would like instead a field where I could enter a number.

Is this possible?

Go Global: Make the .NET World a Friendlier Place with the Many Faces of the CultureInfo Class

CultureInfo is a complex .NET class whose objects are used for resource loading, formatting, parsing, casing, sorting, and other conventions that change as the language, location, or writing system is changed. It can be tricky to use correctly in every situation. Here Michael Kaplan explains some common scenarios in which you will use CultureInfo and provides information about the behavior, best practices, and consequences of a wrong decision.

{ End Bracket }: What Makes Good Code Good?

When MSDN Magazine asked me to write a page on something I care about, I said, "You mean, like abolishing taxes, car phones, and SUVs?" Alas, they meant something to do with programming. Well! After pondering, I realized that something I care about is writing good code.

Design: Place XML Message Design Ahead of Schema Planning to Improve Web Service Interoperability

Web Services are all about exchanging data in the form of XML messages. If you were about to design a database schema, you probably wouldn't let your tool do it for you. You'd hand-tool it yourself to ensure maximum efficiency. In this article, the author maintains that designing a Web Service should be no different. You should know what kind of data will be returned by Web Service requests and use the structure of that data to design the most efficient message format. Here you'll learn how to make that determination and how to build your Web Service around the message structure.

Is DD as good as it looks?

I only just came across DD, and am impressed with what I see at first glance.

However, having been stung in the past by new MS technologies that look like they will save time, I am interested to know if DD is really as good as it looks. Sure, I had a working site up in minutes, and I can see how to do some configuration, but are there any issues people have found further down the road?

Basically, is it as good as it looks? Thanks for any comments.

What is a good example Dynamic Data application?

I'm giving a demonstration of Dynamic Data to a bunch of geeks in two weeks time. I'm looking for a simpe, but comprehensive data model to build the application on. I basically just want to register the model and demonstrate the application, as built (scaffolded) without any customisation, to start with, demonstrating list and detail/edit/insert views, and how table relations are handled.

I'd like to avoid one of the standards, i.e. the Customer->Order-OrderItem models, and try something that would be of interest to geeks. Maybe a Srum project tracker, an or a bug tracker, something like that.

Any suggestions please?

This was originally asked by myself on StackOverflow at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3536803/what-is-a-good-example-dynamic-data-application

Good html design software

I've been using visual studio for ages and find it quite cumbersome to produce snappy aspx pages.

I'm wondering if anyone recommends from a developers perspective a nice product to handle the graphical html generation?

Good news for those of you who get "Unable to make the session state request to the session state se

Dear all,

Due to the known problem of session variables getting lost if using InProc-server during frequent changes in development, I had to choose between SQL and ASP.NET State server, so I opted for the second. Initially, all fine, but after using it for a few days, I started to get this error:

 Server Error in '/cv2' Application.
Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same.  If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aspnet_state\Parameters\AllowRemoteConnection.  If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '' as the server name.

Where to place if statement

I have a design problem I could use some help determining how to code this problem.

I have a table with 3 fields, catCode, startDate and endDate. I am having trouble deciding how to query my DB based on the following...

By default a gridview will return all records that match the catCode selected from a dropdown list.

If the user checks a check box, only records are returned where....

startDate <= today AND endDate >= today

How can I apply the If condition to compare when the check box is selected? I used the wizard to build the select statment for the gridview, but I can switch that to a SP if that makes life easier.

Thanks for any and all help and suggestions.
