Activating an approval workflow on adding a new content type

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

How can I associate a workflow with the content types list? My scenario is that I allow users to add newcustom content types but they are needed to be first approved before they get added to the list of site content types. I couldn't find a way to associate a workflow with the site content types in Site Settings -> Site Content Types.

Any good Approval-type workflow tutorials for VS 2010?

Greetings.  I'm looking for some good tutorials (or books) on creating SharePoint 2010 Approval workflows in Visual Studio 2010.  I've spent a few hours digging through the search results on bing/google, but almost all of the examples (including content from Microsoft) show a very simple workflow in Visual Studio 2010 that doesn't contain approval steps.  I am looking for a more comprehensive tutorial on how to build a workflow that contains approval steps and evaluates the column values (i.e. evaluate a list column  if(Total Cost > 10000)) to determine branching.  InfoPath integration is a bonus but not required.  Anyone have any good links with solid tutorials?  Thanks in advance.

Now I want to add a custom content type to task in which I want to show 3 fields on task form : Title, Description, status And also I want to set some default values in these fields. How can I create and add this custom content type in state machine workflow ? G. Goyal

Feature Upgrade Functionality - Adding a new Content Type and List Instance

I've successfully used the upgrade functionality in SP 2010 to upgrade my list structures as needed. So far, these updates have been adding new fields to existing content types. Now, I have some new fields, content types and list instances to add, and am having trouble getting this accomplished. The scenario is this: - A new content type with a single custom field (also new), and a list instance for this new content type - A new field that is a lookup back to the new list instance defined above. This new field is added as an existing content type. - In my feature.xml, I have the Element Manifest specified with both new fields and an AddContentTypeField element for the new field being added to an existing content type:   <ApplyElementManifests> <ElementManifest Location="V1_04\Elements.xml"/> </ApplyElementManifests> <AddContentTypeField ContentTypeId="0x0100..." FieldId="{8028A1C8-1147-4DF7-B5C3-8A1F84A30360}" PushDown="TRUE"/> The result of running the update on this feature is: - My new field that is part of an existing content type is added - My new field that is part of a new content type/instance is added - My new content type and list instance is NOT created, therefore my lookup is broken Any idea why my new Content Type and List Instance is not being created? Do I need to specify there

Controlling Content Approval in custom SPD workflow

I've designed a custom workflow using SharePoint Designer 2007 on MOSS 2007 to perform the following: User uploads a document to a document library. Workflow triggers and waits for designated Approvers to either Approve or Reject the document. IF REJECTED, the user that uploaded the document is sent an e-mail and the document is deleted from the document library. IF APPROVED, the document is moved to a second, "secured" document library. This all works fine except for one thing. I want to record in a custom column who actually approved the document. As the workflow starts as soon as the document is uploaded to the document library then the workflow is running under the context of that user - not the user who approves or rejects the document. Does anyone have any idea how I could capture who approves this document through my custom SPD workflow?

Adding content to 3 sharepoint lists in a single form/workflow

Hi Folks,

I know there has to be a better way of doing this.

I am setting up a staff training intranet site. the main objectives is to keep a history of what training has been undertaken by company employees.

the solution I have at the moment is

1) create a SharePoint list item on a list called training provider ( for the provider of the training course )

2) create a SharePoint list item on a list called training ( one of the columns is a lookup on the training provider list )

finally

3) create a list item on a list called training schedule which links the employee and the training course.

Going forward I would like the employees themselves to be able to enter the details of the training courses themselves.

I'm concerned that the above process is unwieldly/cumbersome.

Is infopath the way to go ? would a solution involving workflow be better ?

regards,

Counie

Approval Workflow does not update the Content Approval status if started automatically

Hi,

I’m using a simple Approval Workflow associated with Content Approval on site pages. It works fine when I set it to be started manually (by using Allow this workflow to be manually started by an authenticated user with Edit Item permissions  option) and on the completion of the workflow the Content Approval status is updated accordingly. But when I set it to be started automatically (by using Start this workflow when a new item is created  / Start this workflow when an item is changed options), it does not updates the Content Approval status. Note that I’ve set the Update the approval status after the workflow is completed (use this workflow to control content approval) option to true.

Unable to attach a custom SharePoint Workflow to a Content Type

I am working with SharePoint Server 2010 Beta 2, Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RC and SharePoint Designer 2010 Beta.

I built a custom Content Type based on the Item type with a few custom site columns. I also have built a custom Sequential Workflow using Visual Studio 2010. This is a relatively simple workflow that creates a task, waits for the task to complete, sets the workflow to complete. I am able to deploy this workflow to the site collection through VS 2010.

The problem I have is that when I try to associate my custom Content Type with my custom workflow, that workflow is not listed in the workflow templates to select. There are only the OOTB SharePoint workflows to choose. However, if I create a list and associate a workflow to that list, my custom workflow is listed in the workflow template list.

This makes sense since at the start of building a custom workflow in VS2010, one of the first questions is whether the workflow is a Site or a List workflow and I selected List.

I did a little research and found some who wrote that Reusable Workflows may be attached to Content Types.  In VS2010, there is no option to build a Reusable Workflow.  That is only possible in SharePoint Designer.  However, it is possible to import a SPD workflow into VS, so I tried that.  Imported the WSP into VS201

Custom Workflow TaskEditForm(Custom Content Type) not getting displayed in Tasks List.

Hello,

I have developed a custom sequential workflow. I have also developed a custom content type derived from Workflow Task Content Type.

I have 1 TaskEditForm.aspx in this custom Content Type. The custom Content Type is getting associated with the Tasks List but when I click EditItem option in ECB Menu or Ribbon, the in-built EditForm.aspx gets displayed instead of displaying my custom TaskEditForm.aspx from the custom Content Type.

Can anybody help?

Thanks...

Content Query Webpart Missing Content Type and Approval Status

I'm a great fan o the CQWP , and love the changes made in 2010 on this webpart. What bothers me is that I use to Filter Documents by Approval Status, thus showing Draft or Pending Documents and Group these by their Content Type.

Both these were available in 2007, but removed from 2010 CQWP. Any idea why, or how to bring this back? sample or URL guidance would be great. My gut feeling is custom XSLT but id like to confirm this first.

Thx a lot

Default Content Approval Workflow not firing after Check-In from Office 2007

I have created an Approval Workflow for a Document Library and assigned it as the Default Content Approval Workflow (in the UI: Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item).

If, through the SharePoint web interface, I "Check-In" and select a Major Version (e.g. 1.0) or I "Publish a Major Version", this workflow is initiated as one would expect.

However, if through Microsoft Office 2007 (e.g. Word) I Check-In the document as a Major Version (e.g. 1.0) it does NOT initiate the workflow. It DOES set the Document Status to Pending but does NOT initiate the Approval workflow. It then becomes necessary to "Cancel [the] Approval" in the GUI and re-Publish it in order for the workflow to be initiated. This is crazy! Microsoft have achieved fantastic results with their Office integration, why hasn't the initiation of the Default Content Approval Workflow been included?

Can anybody replicate this? What is the correct channel for reporting this to Microsoft? Has anybody else discovered this and found a solution?

I can't believe SharePoint has been used as a Document Management System and nobody else has discovered this flaw?

Unknown error while adding Approval workflow

I created a list and tried to assign out of the box Approval workflow to it. On add a workflow screen I selected Approval as the workflow template, selected to create new task list and workflow history list, and selected to start workflow when a new item is created in start options. When I click next it says Unknown Error. I checked all workflows types are activated. I am not able to figure out what is causing this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Issue with Announcement content type and adding a new item

Hello,

I have the following issue with the (Silverlight?) form to add a new item:If the screen has many fields so scroll bars appear (i.e. it's longer than the screen), you can move up and down. YET, if you press to attach a file, the scroll bars dissapear, so you can't see the rest of the form.

To reproduce:

a) make an annoucement list

b) Add a choice field, add many choises and enable multiple values - in order to have a longer-than-the-screen input form.

c) Go to the list , press add-new-item and attach a file: After that, you won;t be able to see all the input form.
