Sharepoint server 2003 logon issues

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 19, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm running the above mentioned version of Sharpoint on Win2003 server. I had to change domain admin password and now my Sharpoint doesn't work. I have manually changed all the passwords for Sharpoint services using domain admin account and also in IIS but with no success. In the event manager there is buch of error messages mostly refering to bad password or user name during logon. What am I missing?

Sharepoint 2003 + Windows Terminal Server 2008 + Office 2007 problem?

Hi, We have a customer where some users runs Windows Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2007. They open documents from a Sharepoint 2003 site. When they open an excel sheet they get a button in the document which says "Server workbook: Click edit workbook to edit this workbook" and there is a button: "edit workbook" The users clicks "edit workbook" but get an error message saying there is no connection to the server.  They are able to edit the document, but not save it back to the sharepoint site. Most other users work on their local computer with Office 2003. Here, everything works fine and there are no button/message stating its a server workbook.   Is this caused due to some compatability issues between Sharepoint 2003 and Office 2007?   Best regards, Thomas Hansen ErgoGroup AS

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

MOSS 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010 Hybrid Upgrade Approach on Windows Server 2003 x64

There's some guidance circulating about upgrading to 2010 with a mix of In-Place and Database Attach upgrade methods. My Central Admin and SharePoint Web App are on a 64 bit server, but it's running on Windows server 2003 x64 and not on Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2. SharePoint Team Blog says Server 2008 or 2008 R2 is required for SP2010. If I want to do the hybrid upgrade approach, is it possible to first upgrade the OS to Server 2008 R2 on the server where my Central Admin and SP Web App runs?  Or will this break MOSS 2007?

Sharepoint Server 2010 issues

Hi, I am trying to implement these recommendations on a Sharepoint 2010 farm. I cannot get it to work. I have created a test site manually and got that to work however.

Has anyone else been able to get this working with Sharepoint 2010?

The only deviation from the published instructions is that I have tried to edit the system.webserver.httperrors section in case this has some bearing but it doesnt seem to have made any difference. I just keep getting 404 errors.

Win server 2003+ Sharepoint 2007+SQL Server 2008 ,reports view issue?

I hope someone may shed some light on a serious obstacle encountered on a client site:

We have implemented a SharePoint integrated report services solution for the client on a single server

Server = Windows 2003

SQL = 2008

MOSS 2007

Web application = servername:8888 (default) - windows auth

Web application extension 1 servername:8889 (extranet) forms auth

Web application extension 2 servername:8887 (intranet) forms auth

Reports are visible and can be run (renders) on internal sites

However, there is an external site which allows users to access the reports - the issue is, the reports then dont run and I get this:

"An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode."

Though I have not actually seen the firewall config of the AAM, the client assures me it has been setup properly.

If the AAM is setup correctly, what could be the problem? The server is clearly available and confgured in SharePoint integrated mode.

has anyone experienced the scenario where clients want to publish their reports on an external site? What can one do to see any errors other than the one line message (tried enabling custom errors, but no good)

Server 2003 prompting for credentials when connection to Sharepoint document library via UNC

Hi all

I have a sharepoint document library http://mycompany/sites/documentLibrary. When browsing to this site through Internet Explorer on a terminal server I can get to the site without being prompted for a username and password, which is what I want. The site appears as "local intranet"  according to IE.

When browsing to the UNC path \\mycompany\sites\documentLibrary we are being prompted for a username and password. After putting in the credentials the document library displays. I need for the server to be able to access the site via UNC path without being prompted for credentials as we have several in house applications relying on doing so

The funny thing is this was working until recently. What's changed? I have no idea. I have an almost identical terminal server on the same subnet/OS/windows patch level that allows access without prompting for a username or password, and the only thing I had to do for that server was enable the web client service..

Things I have tried so far:

- Checked the Web Client service is enabled, started and set to automatic. Restarted the server just to make sure.
- Added http://mycompany, \\mycompany etc to the trusted zone.
- Set the truste

Import Word docs with Metadata into SharePoint 2010 from Windows Server 2003

I need to import 700 Word docs (2003 & 2007) from Windows Server 2003 into a SharePoint Server 2010 library.  I only have a test server to work with right now and want to do as much pre-work before we launch the actual server.

My goal: When we launch the shpt server, import all docs into a library so that columns propagate with metatdata automatically.

I'm not sure what the best approach is...

Can I can open each doc and add custom properties (maybe with InfoPath) to import as metadata, then import managed metadata through the term store tool and have it associate with the manually entered custom properties? I don't fully understand managed metadata, which might pose a problem.  And before I start importing terms, I thought I should find out if I've completely misunderstood how taxonomies work.

Or I have an excel spreadsheet with info about each doc in columns that can act as metadata. I could upload this as a list then associate each doc with the list.  But it seems wiser to enter the metadata into the documets.

Is it possible to update my docs in advance so that uploading goes smoothly? I have help now for data entry that I won't have later.

I have no resources to spend on tools, and have to figure out and build this&nbs

Search for people in Sharpoint Server 2003 from Sharepoint Server 2010.

Anyone know how to setup so that Sharepoint 2010 crawls Sharepoint 2003 people?

We have tested adding a new content source called People with a content source type of sharepoint and used sps://site.domain.com/site$$$people as the start address.

When trying to SAVE/OK we get the following error.

The start address "sps://site.domain.com/site$$$people" is not valid for this content source type.

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 - email alert based on due date

Hello All,

Hoping someone can help us here.

Note:Workflow/3rd party solutions not an option-

We would like to send an email alert when a list items due date is eqaul to "today".

We are trying to manage some certificates of compliance by flagging the "due date of the particular certificate (list item)" and sending an alert email when that occurs.

Is this feasible in any manner without workflow?

Is it possible to send an alert based on a calculated field when that calculated data changes? .

Any direction would be appreciated.

Thank you

Deployment of SharePoint Server 2010 on Windows 2003 Server Std Ed

After reviewing http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx document on hardware/system requirements it appears that I will need to upgrade my Windows 2003 Server Std Ed to at least Windows 2003 Enterprise Ed in order for SharePoint Server 2010 Ent to be able to address more than the 4 GB (I believe) Windows 2003 Std only allows or addresses.  I have 32GB RAM on my Windows 2003 Std which also hosts the SQL Server 2005 Std Ed databases for other apps and will host SharePoint's database, as well--single platform install.  I also have two CPUs on this box which SQL (32 bit) uses.

So my question is:  can I easily upgrade Windows 2003 Std Ed to Enterprise without having to reinstall Windows 2003 and subsequently all other apps in Windows?

Sharepoint 2010 Issues with IE and Office 2003

I'm having an issue where Sharepoint 2010 is only working with alternative browsers when using Office 2003. We have Office 2003 installed on most of our systems and it seems like the only way to get around this on IE is to install Office 2010. Is there a way to use 2003 and IE?

SharePoint 2010 with Project Server 2010 Issues

How to delete MySite in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 programmatically?

    Hi Dear all,

I am now working on developing a small application which aims to removing about 2,000 Mysites from a SharePoint Portal Server 2003. As the numbe of Mysites tells, it would be impossible to delete one by one manually, programing using Object Model could be the only way out. But something wrong occurred in my code and I could not figure out. I highly appreciate if anyone here could help this out!

I'd like to give an example to help you understand the scenario - There's a Mysite: http://localhost/personal/username , and I got both its Site Guid and Web Guid from Database, so they're absolutely correct. Then I wrote below codes to process the deletion (the String variables "siteID" and "webID" in the code are what I got from Database), but finally it prompts an error message: "You cannot delete Top-Level site " or something like this. I wonder why a Mysite is recognized as a "top-level" site? Is there any code from you to resolve this problem? I appreciate any words you would offer.

Office Services: Merging Word Documents on the Server Side with SharePoint 2010

Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 include a new set of components called Application Services. These put a rich set of tools in a developer's bag for Office automation. We'll show you how to use Office OpenXML, Word Automation Services and SharePoint to build a simple application that merges separate status reports into a single document.
