8 Questions Every Business Analyst Should Ask

It does not matter what project you are going to undertake. It is not important what industry you are going to be assessing. What is important is you know what you are going to do. You must as questions. You must find what it is the client wants. Presented is a list of obvious questions every good business analyst should know the answer to when starting a project.

1. What problem is this business having that you hope to solve by developing this project? It should be obvious as to why you would ask that question. If you do not understand what the problem is then you can not help to solve it. Also, when reading the project program it may not be clear as to what the client actually wants. The scope may only tell you what they would like to see happen. It could and often times is not focused on what the true issues are.

2. What is the business doing at present to alleviate or solve the issue? What has been tried in the past? You must understand what the client is doing in order to understand what mus

Storing User Data

Hello,

I'm trying to get the current logged in UserId Value, using this code

Protected Sub UserProfileDataSource_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles UserProfileDataSource.Selecting      ' Get a reference to the currently logged on user      Dim currentUser As MembershipUser = Membership.GetUser()      ' Determine the currently logged on user's UserId value      Dim currentUserId As Guid = CType(currentUser.ProviderUserKey, Guid)      ' Assign the currently logged on user's UserId to the @UserId parameter      e.Command.Parameters("@UserId").Value = currentUserId End Sub

But, I getting an error (NullReferenceException), I did set a url authorization on the page that i try to get the logged in user information, witch is info.aspx, and I made the login.aspx control to be redirected to the info.aspx after the login process, But the info.aspx  only shows me (access in denied), how can i make this page knows that i am already logged in?

Serializing XML and storing as XML in Database

Hi All,

I know this may sound a daft question but I'm wanting to save Serialized XML into a databse but for the life of me I cant do it.

So far I have my class

public static void SerializeToXML(Candidate candidate)
        {
            XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Candidate));
            TextWriter textWriter = new StreamWriter(@"C:\movie.xml");
            serializer.Serialize(textWriter, candidate);
            textWriter.Close();
        }

This basically save the serialized properties in the Candidate class into the movie.xml file which is great but I want it to return XML (so it can be re-used) so I can store the XML in the XML database field

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Tom

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

Writing Data to database with jQuery Forms, ASMX Webservice, & JSON - help!

Hi,

Can someone point me in the right direction on how to submit data from a jQuery form to a ASMX webservice? I have gotten everything on the form ready to be submitted to the database and now I am stuck on how to send it over using $.ajax(). Everything I have read tells me how to get data from a webservice and display it with jQuery, but not the other direction nor how to access the json data within the within the webservice service(similar to a Request.Form approach with ASP.NET forms).

In other words:

1. What do I need to do to my webservice to make sure it can receive data from the jQuery form.

2. What do I need to do in jQuery to receive an acknowledgement the save on the server side was successful.

I can explain more if need be, but if there is a comprehensive tutorial on not only reading, but also WRITING data with jQuery, JSON, etc. I would love to get pointed in that direction.

need your help regarding table and database.. without data lose

Hi..

I have a table like this in database

ItemNo ItemName Qty

001       A               50

002       A               20

003       B               50

004       C               60

005       D               40

006       E               90

upto it has some 3000 rows in table..

Now what my problem is i have one more field in mydevelopment PC let us consider another column Category

I need to update this column to my client pc without losing 3000 data from table which already exist...

How to do...?

Entity Data Model and database view returning the same columns as there are in a table

When adding a stored procedure into the Entity Data Model I can select whether the procedure returns a scalar, a (new) complex type or one of the entity types I already defined.

How do I do something similar for a view?

I mean assuming I have a view like this

CREATE VIEW FilteredFoos as SELECT Foo.* FROM Foo join ... WHERE ...

(that is a view that implements some involved filtering, but returns all columns from one table) how do I add it to the project so that I can use the entity set, but get the Foo objects, not some new FilteredFoo objects.

var foos = myDB.FilteredFoos.Include("Bar").ToList();

foreach (Foo foo in foos) { ...

Thanks, Jenda
