how does the code within the <%  .... %> brackets write to the output stream of a view?

Where view code that looked like the following would write the HTML for a <table> to the output html of the view.

ToViewOutput( "<table>" ) ;
ToViewOutput( "<tr>" ) ;
ToViewOutput("<td>row1. cell 1.</td>") ;
ToViewOutput("<td>row1. cell 2.</td>") ;

Code Name Longhorn: A First Look at Writing and Deploying Apps in the Next Generation of Windows

The next version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," marks a significant change not only in terms of how the operating system works, but also in the way in which applications are built. The Longhorn version of Windows includes a new storage system, natural search technology, and an increased emphasis on security and trustworthy computing. Here the author provides an overview of Longhorn, focusing on the build-once, deploy n-times application model. In addition, he discusses the new language, code-named "XAML," that's used to create UI elements, then presents some working samples.

C# and the Web: Writing a Web Client Application with Managed Code in the Microsoft .NET Framework

When the author wanted to build a middleware Web client to connect to other applications over the Internet, he realized that the XMLHttpRequest COM object was not sufficient for his purposes. In order to build a Web client using managed code, the author had to use the HTTPWebRequest and HTTPWebResponse classes provided by the Microsoft .NET framework. These classes are used in the sample project as a substitute for the less powerful XMLHttpRequest COM object, allowing the author to build a full-featured Web client. They also take advantage of all the benefits that the CLR and managed code have to offer.

WriteLine - Writing to the VS Output window or to the Console

I know the WriteLine activity has a TextWriter argument that can be set to direct where the output is received but how can I have it output into the Output window of Visual Studio? For few tests, it would be helpful when running the test, I could see some output within VS.Blades Don't Need Reloading...

Can you have a different input and output model in a view?

So here is what I would like to do. Lets say I have a view that can do multiple things, and thus talk to several different controllers. For example, it might create a new group, or change the name of an existing group, or add a user to some group. Now, for the view to display correctly, it would only need the username, a list of groups, and possibly a list of users. Yet for the controllers to work they would need a different set of information, the userid to be added to a group, the name of a new group, or the name and id of a group to edit.With this setup, there would be a potential of several different models for both input to the view, and output to the different controllers. I like the idea of using the helpers Html.Textboxfor() ect. to create the different submission elements, but I don't so much like the idea of having one giant model (Even if it just a model that inherits or has several sub models) that gets passed around everywhere for this view. It seems... clunky.Perhaps there is a better way to do this (if so, feel free to smacking me around with a few "Your and idiot"s) but is there any way to have a separate input and output model for a view?

While trying to view a report in integrated mode i see an unsupported RPL stream error

Trying to deploy a report in integrated mode on MOSS 2007. SQL server version is 2008 R2. I see the following:   ??? ?????????? ? ????м???? ?? ??????? ????????? ??????. ?????????? ?????????????м?? ?????? ?????? RPL: 34.62.1836345404. ??????м?? ??????: 10.3.     Yes i know its in russian. Another fail of Microsoft not being able to see the error codes and strings in english language, makes finding solutions even harder, because first you must find HOW is this called in english, then look for solution. Okay so, i found out that it is actually transalted into: unsupported RPL stream version detected 34.62.1836345404 expected version 10.3 Now, everywhere around the webs they say that this is because my Add-in is out of date and i need new RS addin for MOSS 2007.  But the link is dead!    For example, here http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/61357765-52aa-4085-9ee0-4cb494a6c3ad   @For SQL 2008 R2 together with WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007, you need the SQL server 2008 november CTP add in:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=44bda62c-0cda-4a99-8d0a-d7fe06b39422 But the link is dead and there is no hint as to what happened.   The only valid link i found is this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=65606fdd-093f-4c

Get the current user without writing code

i have a question regarding the "Get the current user without writing code" tutorial. http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/itaysk/archive/2007/04/05/InfoPath-_2D00_-Get-the-current-user-without-writing-code.aspx?from=ClayCobb the url that i have to enter in the web service details is not working for me. do i have to use the same url for wss 3 also? maybe i have to ask this: can this be used for sharepoint services 3.0? i have enter: http://servername:portnumber/_vti_bin/UserProfileService.asmx  when i open it in a browser it gives me the sharepoint error page and when i insert the url in infopath it gives me this error: the file is not a valid XML file. The form contains XML that cannot be parsed: a string literal was expected, but no opening quote character was found. Line 19,position 38 <TABLE class="ms-main" CELLPADDING=0 CELLSPACING=0 BORDER=0 WIDTH="100%" HEIGHT="100%">

Designer does not remember my settings, for ex., I want to always load xaml into xaml (code) view, n

I am using VS 2010 Ultimate.  It is not remembering my setup when opening .xaml files.  It is very annonying.  I  am pretty sure VS remembers things like that.

I prefer to load my .xaml file to see the code only.  So I usually minimize the design tab.  However, I have to do this every time I open a .xaml file.

I am getting the feeling this setting is stored at the .sln level, which is even more annonying, it should be global setting for all VS sessions.

Any advice?

The step did not generate any output. Process Exit Code 0. The Step Succeeded

Hi All,

We have a job which calls a dts package. The status after the run of this step is The step did not generate any output.  Process Exit Code 0.  The step succeeded.

What does that mean when it says Did not generate any output?

Thanks very much, Manoj Deshpande.

How to inject htlm code into text field and load it into the view page

 Hi to all,

I woul like to ask for advice how to inject HTML code into text field and load it into the view,

I am giving the user the possibility to add/edit text on the page using Text-Box control.

My goal is to let the user add Url link into the page. Example:

The user enter the word "[[About us]]" and the system needs to translate it into

<a href="<%=Url.Action("Details","Page", new{id="About us"}) %>">About us</a>

In the view i am using encoding: Html.Encode(Model.Page.Description).

I can write in the controller a method that will send to the view the correct syntax.

But the view encode all information therefore it's not working.

How sould i inject html code into existing text and load it into the view correctly ?

Any advice will be appreciated

Thank you

problems with trace.writeline not writing output messages on multiple instance/thread service

I've come across something strange and can't quite figure out what could be going wrong. I have a windows service which processes queue items in a threadpool (default 5 threads).

So, during testing, i "debug, start new instance" and spin up about 4-5 instances of the service, and on average there is about 25 threads going at same time.

My trace code:
Trace.WriteLineIf(traceOutput.TraceVerbose, string.Format("processing Item for {0}", item.id));

this seems to work for a while and writes the trace code to the output window, but after a while, the trace output just stops being output to the window.. has anyone else experienced this before or could know what might be going wrong?

In Visual Studio how do I view XSD code generated from xsd.exe?

I have an XML file that I've created.

Now I use xsd.exe to create the corresponding XSD.

I open the XSD in Visual Studio - it shows me the design view.

I right click on the design surface and select View Code, but nothing happens.

How can I view the code in Visual Studio?

If I open the XSD file in notepad I can see the code just fine.

Dot Net WCF accessing Java Web Service which exposes a Java Output Stream

Hi Folks,

I am working on a project where the WCF code calls a Java Web Service which exposes a Java OutputStream.

When this java output stream is accessed from dot net, dot net is not able to read from it (or) cast it to any of the .Net available streams like for example (System.IO.Stream) or httpresponse or httprequest streams.

Has anyone tried accessing java streams over a proxy coming from a java web service through WSDL.

The error we get is : Cannot implicitly convert ProjectName.ServiceRefName.OutputStream to System.IO.Stream
