Adding a table or view multiple times when building a query with BI Report Designer and Report Build

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
How can I add a table/view multiple times to a single query by using BI Report Designer or Report Builder 3.0? In Report Designer I managed (workaround) to add one table multiple times by creating multiple Named Queries and having the same SELECT. Still I don't know how to add one table multiple times in Report Builder 3.0.

Report Builder 3.0 for Oracle with Graphical Query Designer

Is there a possibility to have Graphical Query Designer in Report Builder 3.0 in case the connection is made to an Oracle database (through .NET Provider for Oracle for example)? I need to offer to the end users the means to build their own reports. Every user has associated a group of database objects and as soon as users are added new database objects are added. Therefore I cannot create a model because it needs to be changed frequently and the model in this case would contain objects to which the user does not have access. The only option is that the user should create his report query in a friendly manner. So the query text editor is of no good in this case.   I've found in documentation that for Oracle and other databases there is no Graphical Query Designer: In Report Builder 2.0, to specify a query for data source types Oracle, OLE DB, ODBC, and Teradata, you must use the text-based query designer (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd220607(SQL.100).aspx). Is there a way to have Graphical Query Designer in Report Builder 3.0 or should I look for other products? In case Report Builder cannot solve this problem can you make some product recommendations - ad-hoc web reporting for .NET?

Using ReportViewer.LocalReport.Render() method to export single report multiple times

I'm using the ReportViewer control on my .aspx page which displays a single report based on various user parameter selections.  Dropdown2 is dependent on the DropDown1 selection (i.e. the user selects Unit A from DropDown1 and that results in 10 selections under Dropdown2, or the user selects Unit B from DropDown1 and that results in 15 selections under DropDown2, and so on).  The user makes the selections, clicks the "Run Report" button, and the report displays as expected.  The user then can export to Excel or PDF

I've received a request to allow users to run the report for all possible selections and export to their desired format rather than having to run the report for each separate DropDown1 and DropDown2 selection.  So in other words, they don't even want to see the report on the screen, they just want to be able to click a button that runs the report for all possible parameter selections and export it to a single Excel or PDF document.

Does anyone have thoughts on how to best approach this?  Or is it even possible?  I know how to render a single report with parameters directly to PDF or Excel using the ReportViewer.LocalReport.Render() method, but I don't know how to render the same report multiple times to a single destination.

difference running from query designer to report preview

So I have a simple query and parameter in query designer and I run it and it does what I expect.  This is a simple test query/report and I'm just trying to learn how to get parameters working like I'd like.  The single parameter is there to filter by year-month ...and it does in designer.   When I go into report preview, I get the parameter list of values I expect but wne I go "view report" I get:

Query execution has failed for dataset "GetInfo".

Query (1,72) the restrictions imposed by the CONSTRAINED flag in the STRTOSET were violated.

Here is the dataset for GetInfo (which runs in designer):

And here is the dataset for the parameter:

 {} ON 0, NONEMPTY([Pay Date].[Year-Month].Members, [Measures].[Pay Amount])
ON 1 FROM [Pays Data]

I did change the generated dataset on the parameter since by default it would list all the year-month combinations

How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View

I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

So here is a link to my graphic example uploaded to my blog area: http://lindachapman.blogspot.com/  or just the image here: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_aB01ue__NvQ/TGL42MOvrGI/AAAAAAAAAA4/c3xP4uCy4BU/s1600/Scrolling.png

I failed to mention that 3/4 of the columns are HTML Calculated fields wh

Adding a Chart to a Local Report

Dear All

I have created a report as a local report which looks like this:

I'm trying to add a chart to this report and I'd like it to display something like this (so sorry for the crude drawing):

It seems like it should be quite straight forward but I've tried dragging the fields into the chart all different ways and can't make it happen. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and here's what my list of fields from the dataset look like:

I thought ObservationYear would be the series and all the other fields would be the data but this doesn't work. It produces a chart like this which wasn't what I was hoping for:

Please could you help me understand what it is I'm doing wrong? I'm very grateful for any help/advice you might be able to provide.

Kind regards

Adding a button to the Report Portal

Hi everyone, I am using SSRS 2008 and would like to know if there is a way to customize the Report Portal?  I need to add a button that the user can click on when they find a bug or the report doesn't work.  The button would open an email window for the user to type in the problem they are experiencing and it would be sent to our Ontime system.      Thanks for your help!  Youngmon...

SSRS 2008 R2 - Query builder freezes and needs to be shut down Report Builder 3 when attempting quie

Hi, In SSRS, using Report Builder 3.0 (SSRS R2), after choosing a Report Model as the report's embedded data source, launched "Query Deisinger…" from GUI to build data source in report.  First 1-2 attempts at querying underlying data source (Oracle back-end), are successful, but later attempts freeze application to the point where application freezes and overall Report Builder application needs to be forcibly shut-down. This system freeze has occurred when referencing tables containing a very small number of records as well as larger data sets.  Suspect that application freezing may be caused by timing-out of connection to back-end database. but I am not sure. Any suggestion to solve this issue? One report >> Multiple Linked Reports in different folders?

I love Linked Reports in SSRS because of my ability to change one report in one project and post changes to one location on my SSRS server and then have those changes take effect in my linked report.  Today however I was asked to make one of those reports which is already liniked elsewhere to be linked to two locations and I was dismayed to find out that there is a chance that its limited to one linked report for any source report. Can someone tell me this isn't so and show me a way around this?  I don't want to have to post my RDL to multiple locations unless its absolutely necessary. I'm using SQL Server 2008, SSRS2008, Standard Edition. Thanks, Keith

What are my options when I need to create a report with data from multiple sources?

Hello all,  What are my options when I want to create a report that will get records from multiple data sources based on data from a parameter? The user will enter the customer ID, I have to check that ID against 5 different data sources. Have you guys done anything similar? Should I leverage SSIS on this request, adding an extra layer of complexity? Should I do this all from SSRS? What are my options?

A tsql report with multiple counts and pivioted description attributes

Hello,   I have an assignment in which I am to prepare a report displayed in excel to return counts of various attributes in the database. However, the count is a bit challenging because it requires counting certain attributes in a pivot format illustrated below. The counts for each category by recruiter, rolled up by Division, within the specified time frame.   The tables that I would have to deal with are as follows:   User: Has the number of Accounts…user accounts with no Recruiter are unassigned Recruiter: Has the recruiter information LoginHistory: Has a record of all logins EForm: Has the various forms, for example: Release and Authorization, Provider Service Agreement EFormUserXref: You can filter it to return the Physican AppForms                                                                       Surgery                                      &n
