SSIS 2008 - Excel Source using SQL Connection cancels as soon as package runs.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Let me preface this by saying I'm brand-new to SSIS development. I'm using 64-bit SSIS 2008 and I'm trying to read an Excel spreadsheet using OLE DB. I've already run into and corrected the Run64BitRuntime problem.  Now when I invoke the Package it cancels immediately with the following output: SSIS package "Lesson1X.dtsx" starting. Information: 0x4004300A at Data Flow Task, SSIS.Pipeline: Validation phase is beginning. SSIS package "Lesson1X.dtsx" finished: Canceled. The program '[5400] Lesson1X.dtsx: DTS' has exited with code 0 (0x0). When I edit the Excel Source component itself there are no errors and I am able to Preview the results successfully.  If I use Table or View to access the file, the package runs successfully. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Can not get excel connection when calling an SSIS package from ASP

I have an SSIS package importing data from excel. I have coded it and deployed it on the sql 2008 server. I then execute it via a stored procedure with the following: select @cmd = 'C:\"Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /sq "HRIS"' select   @cmd = @cmd + ' /SET \Package.Variables[User::path].Properties[Value];"' + @path + '"' exec   @rtn = master..xp_cmdshell @cmd   This works fine when  i execute it on my local machine. But when I try to call this Stored proc from my asp app (classic asp, not .net) I get the error: Code: 0xC0202009 Source: HRIS Connection manager "SourceConnectionExcel" Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Unspecified error". End Error   Any help would be greatly apprecitated

Custom Connection Manager -- how to use in SSIS 2008 R2 without a DataReader source?

We have a custom connection manager in an SSIS 2005 package. We're able to click on "New Connection" in the Connection Manager section of the data flow task, and see the connection manager in the list. But how do we leverage this new custom connection manager as a source? The DataReader source doesn't seem to be an option anymore. We can't seem to create a new data flow task using this new connection manager as a source.

Ironically, the package runs as is after conversion from 2005 to 2008. It's just that we can't change it or add new data flow tasks using this new connection manager as a source.

SSIS package runs very slow on SQL 2008 R2 server, runs very quickly on virtual XP machine

Hi All,

I've been troubleshooting this issue on and off for a few weeks now.  I've scoured these forums and looked through sqlis.com, but I'm just about out of ideas.  Here's what's happening.

I have a *very* simple integration services package I developed on a  virtual Windows XP machine running on my workstation.  The package uses a script task to simulate a one-row source with four columns (int, char(64), varchar(512) and char(2)) and then passes that off to a fuzzy lookup.  The fuzzy lookup is running against a table of only about 6,000 rows.  The package then inserts the results into a table and exits.

When I run this from my virtual XP machine, it completes in 1-2 seconds.

When I execute this on the server (either as a job or through DTExec) it takes 14-18 seconds.  The server stores the package in MSDB and is also the location where the fuzzy lookup happens.

I've tried using the 32-bit runtime, creating 32- and 64-bit aliases to the server, changing the name of the server from the name to the IP address and port, stopping/restarting SQL Agent and SSIS Services... none of this seems to change the execution time.

The one thing I've found is that if I enable package logging on the logging tab of the job, using the SSIS Log Provider for SQL Server and pointing it to the same connection st

XML Source (Data is not loading to Destination ,Package Runs sucessful)

Excel Data Source SSIS AcquireConnection failed 0x80004005 unspecified error

Nuances of using Excel data sources with SSIS Your Development Machine Setup Needs Jet Drivers, available along with the default Office install so if you have Excel working fine locally, this is enough. Installing the "Office Data Connectivity Components" (download file name AccessDatabaseEngine.exe) as well as having Office installed corrupts the Jet Driver stack so that SSIS in VS 2008 cannot create the object to read the XLS file. You will see the title error "Unspecified Error" and "80004005" code. Resolution: Uninstall the Jet Engine pack on your development XP machine if you have Office. It will be listed as something like "Microsoft Access Database Engine (2010)". Run Office 200x setup with the Repair option and reboot. Try configuring the task in SSIS and it should be able to read the Sheet names again and columns.  Live Server (32-bit and 64-bit) Deploying your SSIS package to a server without Office 200x means it will not have the Jet Engine drivers to read XLS, XLSX files. You must install the 32-bit Office Data Connectivity Components - Jet Drivers mentioned above found here  (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7554f536-8c28-4598-9b72-ef94e038c891&displaylang=en). There are no 64-bit drivers; therefore regardless of 32 or 64-bit live environments, this step is the same. You shoul

How to create a SSIS package to import records form SQl Server 2008 tables to text files

if ssis package writes to excel file that might be open by a user

I have written a package that writes to an excel file to a network folder. Eventually this package will run as a job. What is the best way to handle the situation where someone opens the file or inadvertantly leaving it open while the package is running and and stop the package.? No one needs to modify or write anything to this file after it is finished

SSIS Excel Connection Manager Data Type Conversion Issues with SS Agent Job

Hi All! I have an issue I've been trying to fix but can't seem to figure it out. I was hoping a kind person would point me in the right direction. :o) I have an SSIS package that uses an excel connection manager source, and I want to run this package through a job scheduled in the SQL server agent. The data types for the excel file fields are 2 (DT_WSTR) and 5 (DT_R8). When I run the package directly through the SSIS package (VS solution) all of the data fields are properly imported into the database table. But...when I run this package through the SQL server agent job, ONLY the string (DT_WSTR) fields in each row are being imported, all of the float fields are imported as NULL. I set the data types for these float fields as "float" in the SQL server import table (data type). Even though the excel source float fields are indicating a type of DT_R8 in the excel connection manager and I set the data types in the SQL server table to "float", I also used the data conversion component and set the type to "float" as a fail-safe. I guess I should add to that the data access mode in the excel connection manager is using a custom code to select only those columns that I needed and to trim rows that I didn't need. Here's my code that I have in the excel source editor: select f1, f2, f3, f5, f6, f7, f8 from [mdo$] where f2 <> 'Rep Name'

SSIS 2005 & 2008 BIDS and VS2005/2008 Will VS2010 work with either SSIS package?

I've read the old posts about having to have the BIDS version match the SSIS package version. My question is with VS2010 is there any change? Can I edit either of the old versions of SSIS packages in VS2010 or do I have to have 3 versions of Visual Studio/BIDS on my machine? TIA J

Implementing Transaction in SSIS Package - [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "<

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server. When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good. Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error. [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection. "NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server. Please respond if anyone has any solution. Thanks! Anand

SSIS Package / SQL Agent Job never ends on SQL 2008 R2

I have run into a strange problem and hoping someone may have a suggestion.

We have a set of SSIS packages that are developed in BIDS 2005. The packages are all executed by SQL Agent Jobs on a scheduled basis. These packages have been running on numerous SQL 2005 instances for the last year or so with no issues being experienced.

We recently has our first customer start running SQL 2008 R2 and we have internally upgraded to SQL 2008 R2 in our development environment. We are not converting the packages to SQL 2008 as we still need to support customers who are running SQL 2005. The problem is that in both our dev environment and at this particular customer, we have seem a random issue where the SQL Agent job never seems to end. Most of our jobs normally execute in less than 2 minutes, but occasionally (one or twice a week) a random job will just not end until we manually cancel it. We don't know if it is the SSIS package that is not ending or the SQL job.

We never experienced this on SQL 2005.

Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Any help will be much appreciated

Create Excel file dynamically in SSIS package and fill it by resultset data returned by Stored proce

Hello Every One,

I have a scenario in which i am executing a Stored Procedure which returned a result set.

I want to create a Excel file [name_date_time] dynamically, and fill result set data into Excel file. And then finally sent Excel file to Specific user[Email ID].

Point is that the excel file should have unique name so i want to give name as name_date_time.

So every time when package run new file is created with unique name.

Can any one suggest me who to create Excel file and fill result set data into Excel file.

And then finally send that Excel file ?

SSIS: Error in the package when the data in the flat file source is modified

Hi All,

I have a package which loads data from a flat file source to an OLEDB destination, which is executed successfully and data is loaded perfectly.

But later when the data in the flat file source is modified i.e. if an extra column gets added to the text file, the package is throwing an error because it is unable to detect the extra added column.

How can i avoid this error??? I need my package to execute successfully ignoring the changes(added columns) happened in the flat file source.

Please provide me wth your suggestions and solutions....

Thanks in Advance!!

SQL Agent - Running SSIS Package - Windows Server 2008/Windows 7 - Messenger Services

We have tried to run a SQL job for SSIS Package. But it failed during the execution with the error "[364] The Messenger service has not been started - NetSend notifications will not be sent". But in the job, no notifications have been configured and in windows server 2008/Windows-7 there is no messenger service at all.

When we search for the the messenger service in windows 7/windows server 2008, we found that service is not in both the OS and it was replaced by msg.exe.

Any help or workaround would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS: The normal SQL jobs other than SSIS are working fine without any error.
