Shell extension thumbnail handler; what am I doing wrong?

I also posted this on the All-in-one forum, but that forum doesn't seem very active. Since .NET 4 now supports shell extensions, I want to create an extension for thumbnails. As basis I used the All-in-one sample CSShellExtInfotipHandler. My code looks like this:

  #region Shell Interfaces

  public struct tagSIZE
    public Int64 cx;
    public Int64 cy;
    public tagSIZE(Int64 x, Int64 y)
      cx = x;
      cy = y;
  [ComImport(), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)]
  internal interface IExtractImage
    void Extract(System.IntPtr phBmpThumbnail);
    void GetLocation(string pszPathBuffer, uint cch, ref uint pdwPriority, ref tagSIZE p

Windows Shell: Create Namespace Extensions for Windows Explorer with the .NET Framework

Extending the Windows shell with namespace extensions allows you to create some custom functionality for Windows Explorer. One common use is to enable Explorer to present a list of items that do not exist in one real folder, but actually reside in a number of places. The view on the folder makes it look like these items are in one place, so managing them becomes easier. This article illustrates the process of creating custom shell namespace extensions using C# and the .NET Framework. The author dispels some myths about the difficulty of writing such extensions, and shows that it is easier than it was before .NET. Along the way he outlines undocumented interfaces and describes advanced techniques for consuming them in .NET.

Create a progress bar based on progress of AJAX handler

I've got a plain C# web page that uses jQuery to call a handler page using AJAX. While the handler content is loading, a message "Please Wait, loading..." is displayed. Once I've got the content back from the handler I hide the loading message and display the content.What I'd like to do is after the loading message, display a percentage of how far through the handler page is. All the handler page does is loop through a list of members, powered by a web service, and adds them to the database so I know exactly how many members are being added to the database so I can tell how far I am through.The problem I'm having is because all of this goes on in a handler, how can I send the progress percentage back to the main web page while the handler was still loading.Any ideas? If I could do the exact same task but differently which would allow me to create the progress bar, I'd be happy to hear any suggestions.

Create an Event Handler to catch calls to Create.aspx

Hi, I want to research creating an event handler/reciever to catch calls (mouse clicks) to Create.aspx to prevent users having the ability to create new content. I've noticed in VS2010 the templates for Event Recivers you do not get anything similar that I could use as a starting point (List Events, List Item Events etc) Any ideas how I can define a new type of event receiver?

Problem with EventSetter - "Failed to create a 'Handler' from the text" ...

I have a DataTrigger which when active sets the Template of a ListBox. Within the ListBox i then have a custom type which is based on a border. I wanted to get the MouseDown event for the Border, so in the custom type created a routed event which is fired when the MouseDown event occurs. Im using an EventSetter to hook this up and it compiles, however when ever the DataTrigger becomes active and the Template is changed i get an error: "Failed to create a 'Handler' from the text (name of method in code behind).   xaml: <ListBox x:Name="buttonDisplay" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center"> <ListBox.Resources> <Style x:Key="answerBtnStyle" TargetType="{x:Type cc:callControlButton}"> <EventSetter Event="borderClicked" Handler="ccAnswerBtn_MouseDown"/> </Style> </ListBox.Resources> <ListBox.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type ListBox}"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate></ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Style.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding ElementName=window,Path=currentCall.callstate}" Value="ringi

Writing an event handler to generate a JPEG thumbnail from a TIFF image

Hi guys,

I'm quite new to programming / development so forgive the rudimentary nature of the question.  I've got a requirement where I need to generate a thumbnail from high resolution TIFF images that are deposited into a SharePoint document library.  Document libraries as far as I can see don't support TIFF images.

I've been advised that I might be able to code an event handler to take the TIFF, generate a JPEG thumbnail, which it can then store in a document library and add to the view in an appropriate column, such as dropping a URL into a picture column.

Now, only having opened VS for XML editing, I'm not sure of the best way to start this.  Any pointers, as such, are gratefully received.

The Decorator Pattern & Extension Methods

The decorator pattern provides a formal way to add new functionality to an existing type, without sub-classing. First question: What is wrong with classical inheritance? In and of itself, nothing is wrong with the good old Is-A relationship. It is very common to derive a new class from an existing base class in order to override a few virtual members, and add a pinch of new functionality.

Create And Run Excel Macro At Runtime in C#

You've been tasked with writing a Windows Form application using the .NET Framework that interacts with Microsoft Excel. If you are new to working with Excel in .NET and are having trouble learning how to format certain cells or cell ranges, then this little tip will come in handy. Rather than scour the internet hoping to find the correct set of constants or method syntax for formatting your spreadsheet, use the built in tools in Excel to write the familiar VBA code for you. Then, you can paste the VBA code generated by Excel into the sample C# code below and run it dynamically at runtime.
