Sharing the session variables between two .net applications using SQL Server Mode?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi, I have two different IIS applications within the same domain(let us say www.mydomain.com) , both of these applications use the same database instance(same connectionstring), now what I want is that both of applications can see each sessions variables , can SQL Server session state mode helps in this case? Did someone try that before? Is there any other way to share the session variables? Please help.

Session and session variables not stable in development server....

Hi I have a strange problem in a website that runs in a server to which I am connected through VPN...

I use some session variables to get the job done(shopping cart, etc) but it is not stable..manytimes I get no items in session object and other times(refreshing the page) I get missing data...I downloaded the entire site code to my local pc and debugged it and run it succesfully without any session data missing...When I run it in the server, I get bad session again: no products in shopping cart or products with missing quantities...

The same website runs smoothly in our production server too....The problem is with our development server...

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance,

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

Sharing authentication ticket between two applications

Hi all,

I have two web applications:

1. http://www.mysite.com - primary app running at the root of the web server

2. http://www.mysite.com/second_app - running in a virtual directory

At user authentication, I'm using FormsAuthenticationTicket to set up authentication cookies. Is it possible to share the same cookie for both the apps?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!

SQL Server Session state problem.

Hi to all,

I have some things that I want to know. I am right now using a free asp.net webhosting ("somee.com"). The problem is that when I am visiting a page, there's a tendency that values stored in my session variables are lost. Therefore, it causes an error when the requested page is loaded.

1. I am thinking of using sessionState mode="SqlServer". Will it solve my problem?

Actualy Im working on it but Im having problems when connecting to the sql database.

2.  Is that a problem in the webhost?

3. Do free webhosting sites provide allow session state in the sql server?. Because ive tried it locally into my computer and error say's i should intall the ASP.NET Session State SQL Server version 2.0 or above.

Best Practices: Fast, Scalable, and Secure Session State Management for Your Web Applications

ASP.NET provides a number of ways to maintain user state, the most powerful of which is session state. This article takes an in-depth look at designing and deploying high-performance, scalable, secure session solutions, and presents best practices for both existing and new ASP.NET session state features straight from the ASP.NET feature team.

ATL Server and Visual Studio .NET: Developing High-Performance Web Applications Gets Easier

When developing high-performance applications for the Web, developers often must choose between performance and ease of development. With ATL Server, new with Visual Studio .NET, developers get the best of both worlds. ATL Server uses a tag replacement engine written in C++, provides a simple programming model, and promotes enhanced performance and easy debugging. This article presents an overview of the ATL Server architecture, then creates a basic ATL Server project. It then goes on to explain processing SRF files, HTTP streams, forms, cookies, and header files. Managing session state is also discussed, along with file uploads and performance monitoring.

Setting accessibility mode for multiple web applications

We have a SharePoint farm consisting of 5 web applications. These are tied together through branding and a custom sitemapprovider which present the farm as a single environment to end users. Our visually disabled users however have to enable the accessibility mode for each web application. Which is a nuisance, ideally they would only have to enable once for the complete farm. Does anybody have a solution for this problem.

Cannot export from a Report in SharePoint integrated mode in a server hardend environment

We have installed Reporting Services 2008 integrated with MOSS with SQL Server 2008 on a 64 bit platform.

The environment has worked fine in test (but the servers are not hardend).

With the production environment, any attempt to export from a report into another format (eg excel, tiff etc) results in an unexpected error within SharePoint requiring closing the browser and reopening.

There are no details behind the error. We can also find no traces of the error within any of the logs (SharePoint, Reporting Services, Windows event log etc)

When the report is opened directly from Reporting Services (ie http://servername:8080/reportserver) the report exports fine. Similarly, if the report is opened directly from Report Builder 2, or through opening Report Builder 2 from SharePoint there is no issue. This issue only happens when the report is invoked directly through SharePoint.

We can only assume that this issue has something to do with server hardening/UAC as we have

Need help Session sharing

ASP.NET MVC 2 - I have a serious concern about the management of session variables.

I have a serious concern about the management of session variables.
I state that I have Windows Web Server 2008.
Currently values in the controller and call a session variable like this:
I have an action in as:
System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session ['name'] = id_userlogged;

Defining session variables...

This is a pretty basic question.

I have some code where I need to define a session variable  however it's coming back as Nothing when the code is executed. Here's the code:

' Default Currency

REQCURR = Request.Querystring("p_DCURR")
'If not explicitly specified, try to get it from session

If (REQCURR = "") Then

     If (Session("REQCURR") <> "") Then
          REQCURR = Session("REQCURR")

          'Here is the session variable I'm trying to define:
          Session("REQCAD") = 0
          REQCURR = ""
     End If

End If

So, for some reason that Session("REQCAD") = 0 has no value instead of having a value of 0.

Any thoughts?
