BITS: Write Auto-Updating Apps with .NET and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service API

Both the .NET Framework and Windows have some very interesting APIs for creating applications that are capable of updating themselves automatically over a network. There are many advantages to writing your application to update itself like Windows Update does, including convenience for your users, from easier maintenance to network administration. Automatic updates require attention to factors such as discovery, security, and file replacement. In this article, the author covers the BITS API as well as a number of features of the .NET Framework that take care of these facets of auto-updating using the same facilities that the Windows Update uses.

User Profile Service account Write to AD Permissions

I followed this guide here (http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx) to provision the UPS service in sharepoint 2010. I found the guide very helpful and informative. Everything is working correctly except for the write back to AD I've followed the steps and have assigned the listed permissions to the UPS service account, however I still get permissiong errors in the FIM GUI Our AD is running in a 2008 environment but is in 2003 mode, so I made sure to add the UPS account to Pre Windows 2000 Compatible access built in group and restart the server so that the new group settings would take affect. Do I need to reprovision the UPS service or something? Or am I missing something completely. (Hopefully the latter lol!) Thanks RKB

Hello All, How  do you get around the same issue if your string type is based on a client token ?  I downloaded the .wsdl file, was able to see the service name, method and when selecting a method type, I am required to provide a client token which was given to me.  (Name column = clienttoken, Type = string, Value = 2227656 - ec8922 (client token numbers goes there)?  I am new to ssis and need your help please.  Note:  I downloaded another .wsdl file from a public site to test out the web service task and I was able to execute it without any errors.  I am using 2008 version.  Except for this .wsdl file which uses a parameter based security (client token) error message:  Web Service Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebserviceTaskException: The web serrvice threw an error during method execution. SSIS Web Service Task Error with WCF Service

I have read all the other posts on this site and have not been able to resolve my issue.For testing purposes i created a very simple WCF service that takes no arguments and returns true.  That is all it does.When i create a winform client and instantiate the service i can run my service method and get true back so i know the service works.I then create a test SSIS package with 1 task, a web service task.  I set the web service tasks properties as follows:http connection: http://localhost/WCF_SSIS_Prototype/Service1.svcwsdl file: C:\...\SSIS_WCF_Prototype\Service1.wsdl  (I know this is not a valid path, i changed it for posting to forum)Service: Service1Method: GetDataVariable: User::BResultWhen i run the package i get the following error:[Web Service Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebserviceTaskException: Could not execute the Web method. SSIS 2005: call WCF web service in ScriptTask (?)

Hi I am a bit of SSIS and WCF newbie...I am working on a SSIS 2005 project and other company writes web service for me to consume.  I use "script task" in SSIS and copy the WSDL-generated proxy file to consume web service..it has been working ok but yesterday I got a new proxy class file from the other company with heading like this:

<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute(), _

     System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("System.Runtime.Serialization", ""), _

     System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractAttribute(Name:="GetBondTenancy", [Namespace]:="http://xxx.x.xxx.notshown.xxx/")> _

    Partial Public Class GetBondTenancy

        Inherits Object

        Implements System.Runtime.Serialization.IExtensibleDataObject

SSIS complains about not recognizing 'DataContractAttribute' and 'IExtensibleDataObject' but sure it is not just a matter of DLL referencing... is there a way I can consume this Web service?

p.s. Please let me know if you guys require more info....

calling web service from SSIS return result as null

I got this result

<Result>The result is null. Either the result is null or the Web method returns void.</Result>
 when I calling web service from SSIS. I setup HTTP connection and tested without any problem; download WSDL without any problem; I did exactly as the link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181267.aspx. From input editor, I selected service and method. For the chosen method, there will be 3 variables (1 input parameter, 2 output parameters). For the input variable, I defined the package variable as string, and copied XML content to the variable as the value. I will select this defined package variable as the input parameter. I then moved to defined output file.
 When I run the simple package, I will get the output file as result as above. What is wron

Does SSIS Web Service Task work with WCF?

From what I am reading, SSIS Web Service Task does not work with WCF, even though SSIS is 5 years old and WCF is 3. Did they fix it in 2008? R2? Will they ever?

And if it doesn't work, can someone give me pointers on setting up a Script Component to feed some variables to the WCF as inputs?

Thanks in advance.

Calling WCF Service from SSIS

Hi all,

I am trying to call a WCF Service from SSIS package by using Web Service task. I have a WCF Service and a package in a same solution right now. I just want to call an Add method from service and get a result in User::Result variable in a package. And displaying it in a msgbox in a script kept next to Web Service task.

It gives following error...

 Microsoft.Sqlserver.dts.tasks.wbservicetask.webservicetaskexception could not execute method......method not found....

all properties are set properly...

Thank you...

Why to write Service Application

I have a question: why to write custome Service Application. What are advantages of custom Service Application, if we compare it to pure WCF service.

SSIS 2005-2008 web service task limits

I'm finding some articles or white papers about the limits or incompatibilities of SSIS 2005-2008 web service task.

Any suggests to me, please? Many thanks

Error during execution a web method for a web service task - SSIS 2005

I'm created a SSIS 2005 pkg that refers a wsdl file by a web service task. When I execute the task I can see an error as

"Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebserviceTaskException: Could not execute the Web method. The error is: cannot possible to find the method 'ProxyNamespace.CreateAndCompleteSubscriptionImplService.action'..    in Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebMethodInvokerProxy.InvokeMethod(DTSWebMethodInfo methodInfo, String serviceName, Object connection)    in Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebServiceTaskUtil.Invoke(DTSWebMethodInfo methodInfo, String serviceName, Object connection, VariableDispenser taskVariableDispenser)    in Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.WebServiceTask.WebServiceTask.executeThread()"

I haven't written the wsdl file, but I must use it to use the web service in SSIS environment.

Any suggests to me, please? Many thanks

I can add that the web service is implemented with Java technology and the same wsdl it is used with success inside a .NET application. Thanks

Could be a compatibility issue?

Http connection and WSDLFile path for a web service task - SSIS 2005

I'm trying to create a SSIS 2005 pkg with a web service task. I need to create a Http connection, specifying an Url, and a WDSLFile Path. About these, two questions, please:

a) as URL for the Http connection, can I write f.e. http://mysite/mywebservices/mytestwebservice?wsdl=mytestwebservice.wsdl;

b) has the WDSLFile path to be a local path on my machine?

Many thanks for your suggests.
