 How come when you pu an object inside of a table, table row.  A textbox or anyother object and try to click on it to access it's properties "This is in the designer" you are not able to access it you have to go to the source?   Thanks!!!

Data Points: Creating Audit Tables, Invoking COM Objects, and More

Dealing with error handling between T-SQL and a calling application, evaluating when a field's value has changed, and creating auditing tables in SQL ServerT are all common issues that developers must tackle.

Status of Accessing Nested Objects in Data Source of Local Report Does Not Function

We recently upgraded out platform to .NET 4.  We are also using Microsoft Reporting dlls.  Unfortunately, we found that the upgrade broke all of our reports.  Researching the cause, we found this article:

It seems that this issue has been open for some time now and I have not seen a good workaround (except for the shim class which is not really feasible for us).  Can I please get a status update for this?  Is there some other type of resolution?

Thank you,

Difference between Data set and data Reader While accessing huge records from Tables

I have few questions regarding the optimization  issue  .

my application is very slow and i have to optimize the application . One issue is data fetching . Currently to retrieve  data we have data reader  which normally gets the data row by row other approach is to change the data reader and implement the data set which will put all the tables in memory and reduce the disk read and write operations . Please suggest me  which one is the best approach.

Best Regards,

Accessing the different controls inside a GridView control

how we can access a particular control which resides inside a GridView control. In this article I will show you how you can access different controls inside a GridView control. We will see how we can access a TextBox control, a DropDownList control and a ListBox control. If you are working with ASP.NET 1.X then you might want to check out my article Accessing Different Controls Inside a DataGrid.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

Temporary Tables - MS SQL Server

Usage of temporary tables in MS SQL Server is more developer friendly and they are widely used in development. Local temporary tables are visible only in current session while global temporary tables are visible across all sessions.

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

Need help with objects and arrays

I have an objuct that I declared like this:

    Class DailyStats
        Dim _day As String
        Dim _hour As String
        Dim _impressions As String
        Dim _clicks As String
        Property Day() As String
                Return _day
            End Get
            Set(ByVal value As String)
                _day = value
            End Set
        End Property
        Property Hour() As String
                Return _hour

How to check for null/empty strings on dynamic objects?

What is the proper way to check for null or empty strings on dynamic objects? This is the only solution I've found so far:

if (admin.PasswordHash.GetType() == typeof(DBNull) || admin.PasswordHash == string.Empty)

If the field is null, the object returned is DBNull.Value, but if the field is empty string, it's return as a System.String object. This makes it impossible to do regular "admin.PasswordHash == DBNull.Value" check, as that will fail whenever the field has been set to empty string. Is my example the right (and only) way to go?

how to serialize objects ??

Is there any way or process to serialize the the objects?? i am trying to store the instance of few control in viewstate but it shows error msg that it is not a serialized object. should i perform some steps to serialize the objects ???

Using a trigger or anything else to populate two tables

Hi! I'm creating an application that's supposed to first add a record to table1, and then get the ID from that record to use when adding a record to table2, to be able to associate these two records with eachother.

The user gets to type in some values that goes to table1, and some values that goes to table2, but before the insert statement for table2 is executed i need the ID from the recently added record in table1. Some dude told me to use a trigger for the autopopulate purpose, but does that really work when i also need to save some values that's user input, and when those values doesn't get saved in table1?

Are there any other way to do this or can i send values to a trigger? I'm new to triggers and stored procedures, i don't have any particular knowledge of this, any help is appreciated!

SqlDataSource UpdateCommand using 2 tables

I have two tables

Trans  with fields TransID, Date, CustomerID and some other stuff

Customer with fields CustomerID, Name, TaxId

On the screen the user only sees the fields Date and Customer Name. CustomerID is behind the scenes only.

I'm using SqlDataSource. Having no problems with SelectCommand. I don't know how to construct the UpdateCommand and InsertCommand.

Let's say the user changes the date, then I need to do an UPDATE.

UPDATE Trans SET Date = @Date, CustomerID = @CustomerID results in an error message and the record is not updated.

I get an error on the page that says "Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Input string was not in correct format".

I tried taking out the set for CustomerID and I still get the error on page.

Also, for inserting, the users will see a dropdownlist with Customer Names. I need to convert that to a CustomerID to be used in the new record being inserted in the database. I'm not sure how to do this.

Do I need to do something with Control Parameters?

Problem in accessing resource file dynamically.

Steps I have followed are
1.I have created myres.en-GB.resx file at C:.
2.then created locale specific myres.en-GB.resources using resgen at c: only,
resgen c:\myres.en-GB.resx
3.Linked the Resource File to Assembly using AL.exe which is giving me assembly at c: only.
Al /t:lib /embed:myres.en-GB.resources /out:ClassLibrary1.dll
4.I have created one web application using vs 2008 & then build it.
5.Then placed both resource file & dll in web applications Bin\en-GB folder.
6.Anf finally written code at page load like
 CultureInfo info = new CultureInfo("en-GB");
            Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = info;
            Assembly asd = Assembly.Load("ClassLibrary1");
            ResourceManager res = new ResourceManager("myres.en-GB", asd.GetSatelliteAssembly(info));
            string sdf = res.GetString("Lab1");

but after running application I m getting following error
MissingManifestResourceException", "Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Cla

How to display related tables in one crystal report and how to link this report with combobox?

Now if I want to display all these details (fields of all tables) in one crystal report (with page breaks if necessary) then how will I achieve it. I will be providing a combo box in my application that contains list of student names. How can I link this combo box with the cystal report to dynamically display report for different student on selected index change of combo box? Help me friends. An example would be appreciable.

Accessing Functions from a Class

I am a PHP developer and am running into a lot of issues with C# and .NET. I would like to be able to do the following in C#. (i'm not sure if it should be done this way though)

C# File:

using System;
using System.Data.Odbc;
using System.Data;
using System.Configuration;

partial class site_functions : System.Web.UI.Page

protected void Main(object sender, EventArgs e)

public static void open_database()
OdbcConnection myConn;
OdbcDataReader MyReader = null;
string strConnection = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["dbConnect"];

myConn = new OdbcConnection(strConnection);

public void close_database()

public void Read_Database()
//do something
