Can't inherit default page layout on a publishing site?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
  Hi,   Implementing SharePoint for the first time.   We've got a page layout that we want to use as a default. We've got it set as the default in the top site in the site collection. However, when I create a Publishing Site with Workflow, it doesn't default to using the right layout, despite the fact the sub-site's Site Settings / Page Layouts show that it it set to inherit the default page layout from its parent.   Oddly, when I create another type of site, e.g. a Blank Site, it does inherit the default layout.   Any suggestions?   :|Ben

Set custom publishing page layout custom field programatically

I have a custom publishing page content type, based on the Publishing Article Page content type. On this content type, I have a custom field named "PageContentCategory". In my code to create new pages, I tried this:

PublishingPage newPublishingPage = this.currentPublishingWeb.GetPublishingPages().Add(pageName, newPageSelectedLayout);

if (pageContent.IsEmpty())
 pageContent = Properties.Resources.EAWorldArticleHandler_CreateNewArticlePage_DefaultPageContent;

newPublishingPage.ListItem[new Guid("{93496B35-7EC3-4132-B0D0-3BDC5606F5EF}")] = pageContentCategory;
newPublishingPage.ListItem[FieldId.PublishingPageContent] = pageContent;
newPublishingPage.Title = pageTitle;

I have also tried to set it by the field name:

PublishingPage newPublishingPage = this.currentPublishingWeb.GetPublishingPages().Add(pageName, newPageSelectedLayout);

What's the "right" way to create a site template and inherit a custom master page?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 2007 whatever masterpage you had selected was saved in the site template and was re-created when a new site was created from said template.

It occurs to me that it's different in 2010.

Custom master pages from a site template aren't inherited and they don't keep the specified value when you ask it to before creating the template itself.

So, what's the "correct" way?  What's the difference in making a site template using a blank site or publishing site?

Here I thought I'd be able to make a site template and move on to my next project.

Thanks in advance!

Two column Publishing page layout query

Hello I'm quite new to use sharepoint 2007 designer. I've set up a two column liquid publishing page layout template using two tables side by side. A total of 100% basically the left table is set to 70% and the right to 30%.

It works fine when used, however when no webparts or content are entered in the right column (table) the layout looks a bit strange since it the right column space is empty.

Is it possible for the left table to automatically expand to 100% if nothing is entered in the right table?

Thank you for any help that can be provided.

Sharepoint 2007 publishing site home page displays unknown file type security message

I am using sharepoint 2007 sp2, it has been workig fine for the past 8 months but since one of the developers installed .net 4.0 framework, every time we create a new sharepoit publishng site or extend and existing application the home url displays an "Unknown File Type" security warning message and asks users to download the file.  If i manually tupe in the full url http://www.mysite.com/pages/default.aspx it is displayed correctly. I have uninstalled .net 4 from the server but i still have the same  error. I have tried to replicate this error on a development server but sharepoitn works fine on that even with .net 4.0 installed.

Has anyone had the same issue ? I would appreciate  any suggestios or help with troubleshootig this issue.

Provision/Add custom Layout, Master and Default pages in Site Template

I'm attempting to use the onet.xml of a custom Site Template to provision/add (same thing?) a custom Master Page, a Custom Layout page and then reference them in Configurations.

I'm having trouble understanding the steps and order to do this in properly and am getting errors where the Layouts/Master pages cannot be found.  Here is what I have now:

I can not create Article page in publishing site with a error message related to Microsoft SharePoin

I installed MOSS 2010 successfully with all requirements and options. After that It created a Publishing site. But, when I create an article page for news, the error page show that:

SP Foundation 2010 not displaying my default site page...

I'm new to Sharepoint and have successfully installed Sharepoint Foundation 2010 on a Windows 7 x64 machine using the instructions on MSDN (instructions are fantastic; by the way).  However, when i completed executing psconfigui.exe (Sharepoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard) my default site was not displayed as mentioned in the setup instructions.

Instead I got a webpage cannot be found (HTTP 404) error.  The URL displayed was "http://kweeks-dell"; which doesn't seem right to me.

I was able to run the Central Administration console and display various admin tasks; however, when i tried to create a new site (i.e. "http://kweeks-dell:10178/MyFirstSite"), I get an error message "URL Name contains illegal character ':'".  Where 10178 is part of the URL of the admin site.

I'm really confused cuz i don't see any problems with my installation but yet i cannot get a site setup that i can start work with.

Anyone, I'd appreciate any help I can get.

the site default page issue

Hi All,

I have set the site default page is default.aspx and set that page allowed without user authentication

if we call http://www.mydomain.com/default.aspx, it is working without authentication

but if we are calling without filename (http://www.mydomain.com) , it is redirected to

the problem is, if we are calling without filename (http://www.mydomain.com), it should not redirect to login.aspx page

because the default.aspx page is not accecpted as the domain default page.

Notes : I have converted asp.net 2.0 to asp.net 4.0 web application. after conversion conly  this problem arises

Best way to create a new page in Publishing site?

When creating a new page in a publishing site, is there any essential difference between choosing the "Article page with body only" option versus the "Blank Web Part Page" onto which one puts a Web Content Editor web part?  I know that they render differently on the page, but is the content box on the article page just a content editor web part without the chrome?
There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

default ASPX Publishing page will not restore to previous version

I have inherited a MOSS farm that has a semi customized front page on it's publishing portal. One of the customizations is a bamboo web part that someone did something to to cause it to change the font on it to white and collapse if it had no information in it. I restored this whole site collection to a test area in a separate application pool so that I could work on it without disturbing any other users.  The Bamboo licensing broke in this web application even though the farm is licensed. I was just going to ignore that for now and concentrated on adding some web parts controlled by audiences. I got the web parts in and reacting to the correct audience but then I screwed around with it long enough to break it.

Now the customized Bamboo does not collapse and is stuck showing it's error message about the licensing, and I am unable to change the height of other web parts although I am able to change the width.

So (and here is the real problem) I thought that I would just restore a previous version of the page and try again after I got the licensing with Bamboo all straightened out. But I cannot get this page to restore an old version.

First when I was on the page showing all of the versions for this page and I would choose an older version it would complain that I had to check out the page before making any changes. SO I check out the page and return

Site Default page does not work after the asp.net upgradation (2.0 to 4.0)

Hi All,

we are upgrading the asp.net 2.0 web application to asp.net 4.0.

we have the many sub folders with default page (default.aspx)

and we are using the link like,

it is working fine in asp.net 2.0

after the upgradation process,  we didnt get above the  URLs. i have checked site default page settings (in IIS "Document" default page settings), and default.aspx page is shows under settings.

the site url  "<domainname>.com/" also does not working. if we call "<domainname>.com/default.aspx"  then worlking.

 How can i fix that error?

Is there a site page default.master in SharePoint Server 2010??

I inserted a few lines of code on the wkpstd.aspx template to "show" the document library properties on each wiki page within each wiki page library. This is working fine, except that the property Document ID
is showing up on site pages as well.  I checked Moss 2007 and I foumd that there is a bpcf.aspx default page that is used to create a basic page. Is there a separate template or master page for the site pages within 2010 that i can modify?

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
