Insert-Update to SAP from SharePoint - Best Approach in terms of development and deployment

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, I am having a requirement where I need to design and develop a workflow solution that interacts with the SAP to insert/update the data. Here are few questions that I am looking for some guidance... 1) If I develop the Insert-update operations using BCS and a web-service (or WCF) in SharePoint designer, how to use it with workflow ? Also , the stuff that is configured using SharePoint designer , how to deploy it on Staging and Production? 2) If the above approach has quite a few limitations, then what should be the best approach for such requirement?   Thanks.

Sharepoint development cycle, how? with what? and how can I update objects?

I am new to sharepoint and was wondering if someone can please point me in the right direction. (SP 2010)
I have to develop a solution that will include lists, content types and custom forms etc.  The system will go live but there will be changes and i need to push the changes to my solution out to pre-prod then finally production servers.
What is the best way to manage this development. For example:
I have created content types using a VS template but if i change them the changes do not take effect on objects using that content type.
So i created the content types in code, then i can at least check if it exists then make any changes (eg description change for column type)
When i tried to publish lists, it removed the list i had previously (and all the data)
I have since started to look as the SP designer, which looks good, but how do i version my code?(SVN)
In SP designer i can save a template, which does everything i want , except i cannot update version in pre-production (templates are single instantiation only)
I have since gone full circle and looked as VS again an

SDLC Approach or Software Development Life Cycle

SDLC process stats from conception to completion of any software project. According to this approach the software development team is responsible for the whole project development life cycle. After doing SRS and requirements analysis; developers follow different models of Software development Life Cycle (SDLC) available, while the most common model is SDLC waterfall model. They divide project in different stages & phases and the output of each stage or phase becomes the input for next stage.

Easier Silverlight Development against SharePoint

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately working with Silverlight 3 and SharePoint. One of the first big shifts for me is that Silverlight Development is Client development. Silverlight runs in the browser, but it runs on the client, so no SharePoint Object Model code. You have to access all of the goodness that is SharePoint through its web services.

SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() returns -1 when doing Insert / Update / Delete

Sometimes you end up with a return value of -1 when using the SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery method.

Why is that?

Well, the ExecuteNonQuery method is there for statements for changing data, ie. DELETE / UPDATE /INSERT, and the returned value are the number of rows affected by that statement.

When checking the documentation we can see that there are some conditions that return -1.

For UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements, the return value is the number of rows affected by the command.

When a trigger exists on a table being inserted or updated, the return value includes the number of rows affected by both the insert or update operation and the number of

rows affected by the trigger or triggers. For all other types of statements, the return value is -1. If a rollback occurs, the return value is also -1.

Insert image into Infopath form and save to SharePoint as PDF file

I have an InfoPath web-enabled form in MOSS 2007, that is integrated with a K2 blackpoint process for an approval workflow.

Once the form (a Purchase Order request form) has been approved in the K2 workflow process, I switch the form view to a "print-friendly" view for the requestor to view from the browser.  However, now I need to go one step further with this scenario:

1) I need to somehow insert/embed an image with the scanned-in signature of the approver (likely stored in a SP doc library) at the signature line section of my form.  Also, what are the security requirements for storing such images, but not granting all users access to these (e.g. only services accounts that need to access this for embedding into the form, etc.)?

2) Then I need to convert this final "print-friendly" view of the form (with the signature image) to a PDF document so that I can store it in SharePoint (and email it to the requestor using K2's email event capabilities).

Can anyone help me with a solution to both of these requirement, or point me to some resources for this (even 3rd party components are open-game).

SharePoint Batch Update Auto Increment Field Value

Hello All,

I am making use of SharePoint List Batch Updating methodology in order to update the items in bulk. I build the query dynamically for each and every item using StringBuilder and process the data ultimately using 'ProcessBatchData' Method.

Now, I have a requirement where I have to increment a particular field value in the query while iterating through each item for building the query. How can I auto-increment a field value for each item in the batch query?

SharePoint Designer: insert custom list not working anymore

Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.

It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).

Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they say.

I also tried the solutions listed here: http://blogs.msdn.com/spdsupport/archive/2008/07/03/how-to-fix-custom-list-forms-will-not-insert-or-show-up-on-the-design-surface-of-sharepoint-designer.aspx
But they don't fix the problem.

So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.
