Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, I am facing a small issue which is giving big trouble. We are having lots of data in hard drive and for giving access to all users, we have planned to move data to SharePoint. While moving data, when there are multiple folders in a root directory. So, url grown more than 256 characters and when I try to upload the file it is giving the exception message. Below are the details of my SharePoint server. Version: 12.0.6425.1000 And I followed the support KB article and tried to install this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956056/ But, the version the KB article showing as  12.0.6327.5000. So, when I run the hotfix in my system, it is saying this fix is not for the version installed. So, not able to find out the problem. Can you please suggest me any other solution? Because of this issue, we are not able to move/migrate data. thanks for all your help.   ASP.NET and SharePoint developer Company: http://www.rampgroup.com/ Blog: http://praveenbattula.blogspot.com

.xoml.rules file upload problem in SharePoint 2007

I want to create programmatically a workflow like SharePoint Designer does, it works for the actions and the creation of the *.xoml workflow file but I can’t upload or create an *.xoml.rules file for the conditions, immediately after upload it disappears and I don’t know why. Any file with the extension of .rules is not accepted by SPD, is there something that forbids the upload?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Problem with upload a file with special characters for the contribute permission users

I have a problem when a user with contribute permission try to upload a file with special characters, it gives a access denied error.

Is there a way to solve this problem?

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

Problem Cleaning Illegal Characters out of an XML String

I'm trying to strip illegal characters out of an XML string before I send it off to a public web service.  The xml will look something like this:

<field name="first_name">George</field>
<field name="last_name">Harrison</field>
<field name="notes">This is a note. Any character could appear here</field>

I need to pull out any ampercand (&) charachters in the any of the fields, as well as any < or > characters, which would make the XML unreadable.

I've tried it like this:

Private Shared Function cleanQuery(ByVal queryNode As String) As String
    Dim root As XElement = XElement.Parse(queryNode)
    For Each x As XElement In root.Elements
        x.Value = x.Value.Replace("&", "&").Replace("<", "<").Replace(">", ">")
    Return root.ToString()
End Function

That doesn't work so well.  I get the error stating:

     There are multiple root elements. Line 1, position 15.

I tried wrapping the XML in a single root element, like this:

Private Shared Function cleanQuery2(ByVal q

While Importing Excel 2007 file to Datatable - headerrow problem

Hi there,

I am trying to simply extract an excel data from an uploaded file an put it into a datatable. In this case the excel file has 3 rows but when I fill the datatable I only see row count of 2.

I tried changing HDR:NO; to HDR:YES and vice versa, but no luck.

What am I doing wrong? (Note: the excel file cannot have a  headerrow)

string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + pFilePath + ";Extended Properties=\"Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR:NO;\"";
            OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);
            DataTable dtTables = conn.GetOleDbSchemaTable(System.Data.OleDb.OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, null);
            string strTablename = dtTables.Rows[0]["TABLE_NAME"].ToString();
            string strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [" + strTablename + "]";

            OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(strSQL, conn);

            DataTable dt = new DataTable();
            OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);
            //At this point row count=2 which doesn't make sense

Problem in accessing resource file dynamically.

Steps I have followed are
1.I have created myres.en-GB.resx file at C:.
2.then created locale specific myres.en-GB.resources using resgen at c: only,
resgen c:\myres.en-GB.resx
3.Linked the Resource File to Assembly using AL.exe which is giving me assembly at c: only.
Al /t:lib /embed:myres.en-GB.resources /out:ClassLibrary1.dll
4.I have created one web application using vs 2008 & then build it.
5.Then placed both resource file & dll in web applications Bin\en-GB folder.
6.Anf finally written code at page load like
 CultureInfo info = new CultureInfo("en-GB");
            Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = info;

MissingManifestResourceException", "Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "Cla

File Download Problem

Hi everyone,

I am using a download handler to handle the downloading of files from my website.  I am using a slightly modified code from the Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812406

Everything is working fine and downloading, even with large files, but it does not show the file size for any of the files to download. Even if theyre really small.

Here is my code for the handler

public class DownloadHandler : IHttpHandler

        public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
            string path = "";
                path = context.Server.UrlDecode(context.Request.QueryString["src"]).DecryptString();
            catch(Exception ex)
            System.IO.Stream iStream = null;

            byte[] buffer = new Byte[10000];

            int length;

            long dataToRead;

            string filename = System.IO.Path.GetFileName(path);

                iStream = new System.IO.FileStream(context.Server.MapPath("~/" + path), System.IO.FileMode.Open,
                            System.IO.FileAccess.Read, System.IO.FileShare.Read);

Problem download file from SQL Server

Hello everyone. I am having an issue downloading files that I have store in SQL Server. I have no problem in a WinForm. What am I doing wrong in my code?

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

        Dim sch As New clsReport
        Dim fileData As New clsReport.Letter
        fileData = sch.DownloadLetter(Session("LetterID"))
        Dim ms As System.IO.MemoryStream = fileData.fil

        Dim fil As Byte() = ms.ToArray
        Dim nam As String = fileData.name
        Dim ext As String = fileData.ext
        If Not fil Is Nothing Then
                ' Response.Clear()
                Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + nam & "." & ext)
                ' Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", nam & "." & ext)
                Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fil.Length.ToString)
                Response.ContentType = "Application/octet-stream"

Insert image into Infopath form and save to SharePoint as PDF file

I have an InfoPath web-enabled form in MOSS 2007, that is integrated with a K2 blackpoint process for an approval workflow.

Once the form (a Purchase Order request form) has been approved in the K2 workflow process, I switch the form view to a "print-friendly" view for the requestor to view from the browser.  However, now I need to go one step further with this scenario:

1) I need to somehow insert/embed an image with the scanned-in signature of the approver (likely stored in a SP doc library) at the signature line section of my form.  Also, what are the security requirements for storing such images, but not granting all users access to these (e.g. only services accounts that need to access this for embedding into the form, etc.)?

2) Then I need to convert this final "print-friendly" view of the form (with the signature image) to a PDF document so that I can store it in SharePoint (and email it to the requestor using K2's email event capabilities).

Can anyone help me with a solution to both of these requirement, or point me to some resources for this (even 3rd party components are open-game).

Sharepoint 2007 Email problem

I've used Sharepoint 2007 to create my website. Within my web pages I've included Forms in order to capture people's contact details, so that when they 'Submit' the form their details are emailed to my email account. The problem is that when I go to Form Properties and insert the email address to which I want the data sent, I receive this message: "This form cannot be configured to send results via email. The web site may be based at a disk-based location, or a location that has not been configured to send email. Contact your system admin or ISP for more info. Would you like to remove the email recipient Yes or No"

I am satisfied that the settings within the webhosting service are correct. Is this functionality available with Sharepoint 2007 or do I need to switch to alternative software.

I have configured SSRS 2005 in SharePoint integration mode. Everything works fine till the last step. Now, i am trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies feature and failed. I am getting below error message.

Problem accessing Sharepoint 2007 MySite

My users are having an issue accessing their mysites.  When they go to the main portal page or any other site and click the link at the top right of the page to go to their Mysite they are thrown into an endless authentication loop.  If they cancel out of the loop the URL in the address bar is for http://mossserver/_layouts/MySites.aspx

For a user to successfully get to their myself they need to enter the full url like http://mossserver/personal/username/default.aspx

Now, I know somewhat how this happened.  It resulted from me trying to delete a user's mysite and I apparently did it wrong but I'm not sure what I did.  It almost seems like I deleted a redirect page or something...

Looking for any ideas.

Sharepoint 2007 View Problem

I have a document library in Sharepoint 2007 in which I have seet up a number of different views so that the users who work with the information in that library can filter down to the specific area that they work with.  The view itself works great, and they are able to see their data quite easily.  The problem comes when they actually go in and edit any of the items.  Unlike most software in the civilized world for the past 30 years, the user is not returned to the view that they were working with, but to the defult view.  This means that any task where they are required to do many edits at a time becomes a frustrating nightmare and waste of time.  Is there any setting I can change, or anything else at all that I can do to give my users a little relief by making the site navigation such that they are returned after an edit to the same view that they were in before the edit?  Ideally, it would be nice if the same scroll position within the view were returned as well, but I suspect that I may be asking for too much by pushing that issue.  HELP! HELP!  Any and all constructive assistance is appreciated.
