Changing a current SQL 2008 Express Sharepoint instance to incl. Reporting services

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a current instance of SQL 2008 Express that was created with a Sharepoint installation. Currently, that is the only purpose of the instance. We don't have management studio installed but from what we can tell by searching help screens is that instance is on SP 1 (10.1.2531.0) with Database Engine Services and SQL Server Replication. We need to now add Reporting Services. If we go to the Installation Tools to Add/Change the current instance, it asks for the SQL media which was from the original Sharepoint install. I have downloaded SQL 2008 Express with Advanced Tools but not SP 1. I've seen some threads where this wasn't a direct install. Ideally, I'd like to be able to change the current instance to add Reporting Services. When the wizard prompts for the media, will I be able to now point to the downloaed SQL Express w/ Adv. Tools even if it's not SP1? Thanks for your help. Tracy

Reporting services and Sharepoint Foundation 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced S

Hallo,

is possible use reporting services in Sharepoint Foundation 2010 if I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services? I tried various settings and configurations, but it not works (I am not able successfully configure Reporting Services Integration in Central Administration).

Now I am not sure that is possible use reporting services in SPF 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services...

Thank you!

Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. Windows Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - Document Library Settings with Reporting Services 2008 R2 in in

I have a client who has recently upgraded their SharePoint system to Windows Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with Reporting Services 2008 R2 in integrated mode. I have configured reporting services and am able to deploy reports to SharePoint. The client created a document library before the upgrade to WSF 2010. I need to add Report Builder 3.0 to the New Document menu and found the following article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326289.aspx "Allow management of content types?" is set to yes under the advanced document library settings. The problem is that when I try to "add from existing site content types" the reporting services content types are not in the list. I appreciate any help you can give me.

SQL Server Express 2008 Reporting Services - rsAccessDenied error

I've read through a lot of posts regarding the problem, but none of the proposed solutions have worked for me. I continue to get an error stating, "The permissions granted to user '<servername>\Rich' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)." If I am logged in as the local administrator account, entering the Reporting Services URL in IE doesn't give me that error, but it takes me to a blank page. I haven't been able to get to a SSRS home page at all.

Order of operations:

  1. I installed and patched Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
  2. I installed SQL Server Express 2008 with Advanced Services using the MS web installer.
  3. I downloaded and installed SP1 for SQL Server Express 2008.
  4. Opened up an instance of IE and tried to go to http://<servername>/Reports, receiving the above error. Well, technically I first tried /ReportServer_SQLExpress as reflected in the SSRS configuration manager, but that didn't work, either. I then changed the Web Service URL to use the virtual directory, "Reports" instead of the longer ReportServer_SQLExpress. It didn't work either way.

I've tried running IE as administrator, adding local machine to trusted sites, and just about every other suggestion I've found. I even ran the entire installation logged in as the loc

SharePoint 2010 and Reporting Services 2008 R2 Integration Fail - Failed to establish connection wit

We have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition on a virtual server (C-SQL) and SharePoint Server 2010 on another virtual server (C-SPOINT), with the SQL Backend of the SharePoint database residing on C-SQL. This worked fine.

SQL Server was installed with the domain administrator account and SharePoint with an account called 'visi' that has domain administrator privileges.

SSRS on C-SQL was initially installed as a native database. I changed this to a SharePoint integrated database with all authentications done as the visi user. Report server url was set to the normal http://C-SQL:80/ReportServer/.

On the SharePoint central administration site under General Application Settings -> Reporting Services Integration I filled in the details as required:

Excessive Deadlocking Reporting Services 2008 Integrated.

Hi, we have a major issue with deadlocking on our reporting Server TEMPDB (REPORTSERVERTEMPDB). The platform is a Sharepoint Integrated platform allong the following lines 2 WFE Servers (NLB) 2 Sharepoint application servers 2 SQL Reporting Services (NLB) Cluster hosting Sharepoint DB's Cluster hosting Reporting Services DB's and the Data. This error is occuring for both manually running reports via sharepoint and load testing, and is happening on our testing platform as well which is slightly different in configuration. Reported back to the users is "An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database" Running a profile with 1224 set, we are finding deadlocks on the REPORTSERVERTEMPDB on PK_SNAPSHOTDATA. We have tried the following 1. Dropping the PK - The deadlock was then showing an OBJID which we could not identify. 2. Change the database properties to READ-COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT and ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION to ON 3. Re-create and change the PK to ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS OFF None have these have had an impact on the issue This has become apparent since the following actions were taken 1. The setting of caching has been enabled by the developers 2. The Report Server DB's were moved from the Sharepoint Cluster to the Data Cluster. I do have an XDL file from Profiler but it is to

SQL Server 2008 Install failure - Reporting Services Rule Failures

I'm installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.  I'm going through the install and on the "Installation Rules" page I have two failures: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existance Clicking on each of the failures they both say that each file exists "Select a reporting services file-only mode installation" Clicking the "Help" button tells me to "Rename, move, or delete the files" This is the only information I can find on this exact failure.  I'm not technical enough to know exactly where these files are or what they are named.  I cannot proceed any further without correcting this issue.  I'll include some of the shorter summary log files.  I can include other detail log files if that would help. Thank you so much for any help.
