Foundations: Build a Queued WCF Response Service

Posted By: Posted Date: August 21, 2010 Points: 0 Category :ASP.Net

With queued calls in Windows Communication Foundation you can perform work in a disconnected manner by sending messages through Microsoft Message Queuing. Juval Lowy explains.

Web Service that will receive xml request and send xml response

I am trying to create a web service that can do the following functionality:

Request XML

<Authentication UserName="test" Password="test" MyId="0987">

Response XML - After authenticating request xml from client send them back the following response:

   <Test MyId="0987">
       <TestType id="11"></TestType>
       <TestType id="22"></TestType>

How can I create web service to do this.

Error Build: Type or namespace could not be found, when referencing a web service

Hello, I'm new in writing C# application in Visual Studio 2008. I'm currently writing a web application for CRM 4.0 Reporting Service rendering. I reference my web application to our Reporting Service web service http://reportservername /ReportServer/ReportExecution2005.asmx and name it 'RSWebReference'. Then I want to reference it in my code: Using RSWebReference; Not sure why, but I cannot build my solution, saying "The type or namespace name 'RSWebReference' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)". I read this thread in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/74f70e30-83e8-4817-b5e0-7729450730a1 that the website probably is using .net 1.1, and I should change it to .net 2.0. However, I think the website is already using 2.0. Is it probably because I'm using VS 2008? How can I tell and change if the website is using 1.1 or 2.0? Or could I be doing something wrong? Thanks in advanced for your help! -Elizabeth K.

creating a sample web service response

I am trying to simulate a sample web service payload similar to that which i will receive one the webservice is live. Can anyone help me simulate this?Criteria for my response will be:a bool pass or failstring - messageand the object (in this case in the form of a list)heres the class I am to populate with sample data: public class WebServiceCollectionResponse { private List _returnObjects; public bool Success { get; set; } public string Message { get; set; } public List ReturnObjects { get { if (_returnObjects != null) return _returnObjects; else return new List(); } set { _returnObjects = value; } } } How can I use this class to put sample data in it? Lets say I want to put customers in the list 'ReturnObjects'?Thanks for your time.

Use WPF or build a complex service?

I am mainly a web developer / silverlight developer, but have a new project which has a requirement for it to run locally and not require a webserver. Our clients are wide spread when it comes to technology, from advanced users to people who use their mouse pad only as a coaster for their coffee cup. Cause of this I need a simple install and setup. There is possible room for us to do the initial setup / install ourselves. Since I know Silverlight pretty well and live in the .net stack WPF stands out as the direction to go. The initial project is for the "program/service" to basically go out to a database (database configuration has to be setup at install, as we won't know what type of database or how it is configured) and grab data from a specific table, create an xml / json file/email with the data in a particular structure, then send the email (possibly without the use of a smpt client) to a server where the email will be parsed and ran through a set of processes. The idea is for this to happen at set times throughout the day, and there needs to be some checks and balances. For example: we want to ensure there was a successful "send" and that we are not sending garbage data, in the event the data table has improper data in it, or is missing data. Also will be dumping sent data out of the database on regular intervals. All of this is to be automated o

Service Pack and Build to SQL SERVER 2005

Dear Sirs,
I installed the SQL SERVER 2005 and found that the latest service pack for it's SP3.
But the site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960598/en-us, I noticed that there are several "builds" (cumulative update) to apply too.
My question is: after applying SP3 to SQL 2005, I need to install all the cumulative update's from 1 to 11, or the latter accumulates all previous fixes?
What must be done in this case?
Now, thank you the attention and collaboration.

REST Web service,not getting response

Hi ,

I have to call a REST web service method that is deployed remotely on a machine and i use VPN to connect through that url. It works fine when i use the browser to view the output of the web service method but i am unable to get the response in the code as i get an exception. The response status message is OK but when i try to read the response content from the streamreader i get the exception "ex = {"Unable to read data from the transport connection: The connection was closed."}". The content length is -1 in the HttpWebReponse object. Here is the code

        HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create("");

        //apply this url when working with the software
       // HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create("http://localhost:1901/metascan_rest/scanner?method=getengineinfo");
        request.Method = "GET";
        WebResponse res = request.GetResponse();

        string status = ((HttpWebResponse)res).StatusDescription;

        Stream stream = res.GetResponseStream();
        StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(stream);

          //this is where the exception occurs
            string output = reader.ReadToEnd();

Web Service Response Question: < and > getting converted to > and >

Hi there,

I created a asmx web service which returns a string as response. The return response is as follows:

<string xmlns="https://xyz.com"> <result>Success</result></string>
But when the client is doing http post they are getting the following response on their side:

<string xmlns="https://xyz.com"> <result>Success</result></string>
What should i be doing so that the client sees < and > instead of < and > ?

MTOM-enabled WCF service sends document inline in SOAP response

I'm running a WCF service that has messageEncoding="Mtom" in the config file. The WCF service however, in its SOAP response sends the document as a Base 64 encoded document inline and not as a <xop:include.....> reference outside the SOAP. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Please guide me.

Hi there,

I have a multithreaded mail app that is getting this error occasionally. It's a SmtpException. I'm resending the email later and it goes through OK from what I can tell. The network admin beside me is telling me this Exchange will respond with this message if I try to send more than 1000 messages in one connection.

Each thread (of which there are 4 per server) is creating it's own instance on the SmtpClient object and is never sending more than 200 messages through this at once (e.g. each thread retrieves a batch of 200 messages maximum). I'm sending around 10-200 messages a second depending on time of day.

I've looked at the System.Net.Mail assemblies using Reflector and it looks like the .NET framework does some connection pooling under the covers which may be part of the cause although I can't tell for sure.

So, with all this in mind, can someone point out some possible things to watch out for or dos and don'ts around this? The SmtpClient object doesn't have a explicit close method so I could hazard a guess and say that the connection to the smtp server isn't being closed when the object goes out of scope. Throughts on this?

how to deploy web service in sharepoint 2010 using build and deploy ?

in MOSS 2007, I used to use WSPBuilder utility and add web service as web service wspbuilder item to it. It helped to keep everything (WebParts, WebService...etc) together in the same project. All i had to do was WSPBuilder -> Build WSP and then Deploy.

Now in SharePoint 2010, how can i achieve similar scenario to deploy asp.net web service by just few clicks, i dont want to copy the dll to GAC, copy .asmx file etc.. manually.

Any idea ?

Weird application behavior -- Action required to trigger service response otherwise the application

I am a WCF beginner and is trying out with a basic host service with callbacks to the client.

My code works wonders if my client app is a console.exe but when I transferred the code to a Windows Form app, the application will freeze. But if I right click on the form window task bar, the code suddenly goes through and it would work...

Is there anything wrong with this?

The service is hosted on IIS

Here is my Service code:
