RBS Maintainer not cleanup files in file system (SharePoint 2010)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Here's my environment:   Server #1: SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, RBS enabled Server #2: SharePoint Foundation 2010, RBS installed I setup RBS according to this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee663474.aspx successfully. And I can see the files are storing in NTFS file system instead of database. And then I'm configuring RBS Maintainer according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff943566.aspx . But it doesn't seem working as expected. I deleted the file from SharePoint Document Library and emptied recycle bin, even in site collection recycle bin. And even I delete the whole site collection. The RBS Maintainer doesn't delete the files in file system. I've updated the following rbs config on my content database for test: exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'garbage_collection_time_window', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'delete_scan_period ', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'orphan_scan_period', 'time 00:00:00'; Maintainer output after I deleted the file, emptied end user recycle bin and site collection recycle bin : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer\Microsoft.Data.SqlRemot eBlobs.Maintainer.exe" -Connect

SharePoint 2010 and external file system - DocuShare

I am working with a client that is looking for a SharePoint (2010 Standard) solution for CMS and document management.  Initially they intended to migrate thousands of documents from Docushare to SharePoint, but are now asking about leaving the documents in the current file system instead of migrating them. Can SharePoint work (allow access, controls, search, etc) with documents stored on external file systems?  How would this work?  Drawbacks, costs, tools needed all helpful.

thanks

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

Indexing files larger than 16 MB in SharePoint 2010

Tonight, I came across an interesting blog post by Fellow MVP, Todd Klidnt in which he explains how to work around the 16 MB limitation for file indexing in SharePoint 2010 using PowerShell. "As with previous versions of SharePoint, SharePoint 2010 will not index the contents of files larger than 16 MB. There are a couple of reasons for this such as network usage pulling large files across and the time it takes to break them apart". Click here to continue to the post.

Can´t set up local system accounts as service accounts in sharepoint 2010

HI I made an inplace upgrade to sharepoint 2010. I want to setup performance point services. but it doesn´t allow me to set a local system account as the application pool account for performance point services application. It doesn´t allow me to register a new account it says The specified user account "domain\username" is a local account. Local accounts should only be used in stand alone mode. The application pool account for the site collection that I upgraded is a local system account so I don´t get it? I tried this http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112 However the upgrade fails after this. Is there any way that I do the inplace upgrade and it would allow me to use local system accounts has service accounts? Without Active directory? Thanks

what is the better design for location of system database data / log files and user data/log file,

Link to Traditional File Shares from SharePoint 2010

Forgive me for possibly not using the right terminology.  I'm trying to determine if Sharepoint 2010 supports linking to traditional files shares so they can be presented as Document Libraries inside Sharepoint.  When searching I find lots of info about the capability to map traditional network drives to a Sharepoint Document Library, however that is essentially the opposite of what our customer needs to do.  Instead they want to keep a large repository of files out of a Sharepoint database, but still present it as a document library to their users.  I know that the BDC supports linking to External Data Sources, but I thought that is just for crawling, and searching external data stores. Is it possible to present a traditional file share \\servername\share as a document library (i.e. https://home.widgets.com/Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx) in Sharepoint 2010?It looks like the capability is there especially because Server 2008 R2 refers to default shares as Libraries.Thanks.Matthew

SharePoint 2010 Export list Items to Excel, wrong url in iqy file

Hi, I have a SharePoint 2010 Environment that uses https://portal.<something>.com. Exporting to Excel of a list uses wrong URL. When I go to the a list, select the list to show the "office ribbon" and then select export to excel, excel will show the error "Excel cannot connect to the SharePoint List". When I take a look at the IQY file that is created it contains the wrong url: http://portal.<something>.com instead of https://portal.<something>.com Changing the URL in the IQY file manualy to https://portal.<something>.com and then opening it will excel is working fine, list data is exported to excel then. Alternate access mapping is configured to use https://portal.<something>.com as default, export to access is working normaly. I already deleted the http://portal.<something>.com alternate access mapping once to see if this fixes the problem. No fix, even not after IISreset or rebooting the server. Where or how is the export to Excel IQY file created and where is it possible to fix the URL it is putting in the IQY file? Grtz, Arjan
