Access is denied when creating Alert me on a folder level permission is this a known bug?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi, A user is getting an Access Denied error when creating an Alert Me on a folder level. The security set to the user is, Read access to the list but without permission to Create an alert, and he has a Contributor access to the folder. The security was perfect, he can't create an alert to a list level, but Alert Me is available on a folder level. When the user clicks on the Alert Me on a specific folder it will bring him to the alert configuration page, BUT, he would get an Access Denied error when hitting the OK(Save) button. Is this a known issue in Item/folder level security? The fact that Sharepoint allows user to see Alert Me function I assume that it should function correctly, but this is not the case. Hope to hear from you guys! TIA!

The condition of creating assembly for external access permission?

To create an EXTERNAL_ACCESS or UNSAFE assembly in SQL Server, one of the following two conditions must be met: 1. The assembly is strong name signed or Authenticode signed with a certificate. This strong name (or certificate) is created inside SQL Server as an asymmetric key (or certificate), and has a corresponding login with EXTERNAL ACCESS ASSEMBLY permission (for external access assemblies) or UNSAFE ASSEMBLY permission (for unsafe assemblies). 2. The database owner (DBO) has EXTERNAL ACCESS ASSEMBLY (for EXTERNAL ACCESS assemblies) or UNSAFE ASSEMBLY (for UNSAFE assemblies) permission, and the database has the TRUSTWORTHY Database Property set to ON. The two conditions listed above are also checked at assembly load time (which includes execution). At least one of the conditions must be met in order to load the assembly. This is a explanation on msdn.I think if only one of these condition is met,it will work. But after I do the first condition,I still can not create an assembly with EXTERNAL_ACCESS permission except SET TRUSTWORTHY on. should the two condition be met?

Folder inside the List shows Access Denied when try to open using Manage Content Structure

When we try to open this folder use manage content and structure it throws access denied. any idea how we can check this as we the permissions are properly inherited and all the folders are checked in . Please update what else we can check.   Thanks, Jasjeet SIngh

Access Denied creating a web application in SP Foundation 2010 installed on windows 7 with local acc

Hello,

I've installed SharePoint foundation over windows 7 with a local account using this guide: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112

When I try to create a new web application the ribbon button is disabled. Using the link located in /_admin/createsite.aspx I get an "Access Denied" error message.

I access the SP Administration with the same user used during installation. This user is local admin and member of SQL server roles "securityadmin" and "dbcreator".

Any idea about this error?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Appreciate if someone could point to the right answer on how to overcome this error. By clicking the Button3, the ExportedFilePDF.pdf should be copied to the \\presario remote machine. So far, no security issue on the same configuration in IIS6 + W2K3.

  Protected Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
        Try
            File.Copy("C:\BackOffice\Export\ExportedFilePDF.pdf", "\\presario\FaxServer\Outbox\ExportedFilePDF.pdf", True)
        Catch ex As Exception
            Response.Write("Error copying file | " & ex.ToString)
        End Try

    End Sub

 The browser will generate this error message when the Button3 is clicked.

Access Denied for when creating workspace for Contribute Member

Hey guys,

I'm new to sharepoint so please go easy on me.

Everything on the site works fine with my account. My account is assigned full control for permissions.

I have a member that is given contribute permissions and he can access everything on the site as well (like he should be able to). However, he found a problem tonight in our testing and I've been able to trouble shoot it a bit.

When he tries to create a new workspace, he gets an access denied error. I logged into his account and verified that his account is unable to create the new workspace. My account can create it with no problems. I gave his account full access (instead of contribute) but still he was not able to create a new workspace.

Thanks

Creating a work flow, 'Access denied' ahhhhhhhhhhh

hopefully someone can help me with this before i begin playing target practice at the server with bricks.

Iv created a simple list. (contains no items at this point) Then i created a reuseable work flow in SPD (latest version - installed yesterday!) then published, when trying to add this flow to the list, only if i click either of the option "start flow when add/edit" i get the very anoying 'Access denied' Im logged in as the site col admin.

After some research it seems this is a common bug, a solution that seems to work for others is to check out/check in the flow. However i do not see any option to check out/check in any flows. Infact i dont think iv ever seen this option on anything in Designer.

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advanced

Deano

Intermittent Access Denied to Users with Member Permission Levels

Hello Community,

I have another tough SharePoint mystery I am trying to solve.  Essentially, users with Member permission levels are experiencing issues accessing a sub-site of a Site Collection intermittently. Users will Full Control, Site or Farm Collection Administrator access do not experience this issue. When the Site Owner with Full Control permission levels opens the site in the morning then the users with Member permission levels are able to access and navigate the sub-site without issue.  Does anyone have any thoughts on what this type of problem may be related to?

Thanks!

Tom

Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource - Employee

I originally posted this question in customization but it might be proper to post in general question and answer section

I have downloaded the above stock template from Microsoft and have not made any customizations what so ever to the template. In the beginning when I tested this template with a test account with (contributor rights) which worked fine and allowed a user to register for a class.

Everything seemed to work fine. However, as of two weeks ago I started receiving user complaints stating that they now receive the :"Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource." error message.

I know that their access rights are configured properly, as Site Collection administrator I can register for a class with no problems. However, even if someone else has the "FULL CONTROL" permission either to the training site or just to the course calendar they continue to recieve the above error message.

What is crazy... if the general user SP Group is setup with Contributor permissions I (1) can create a new class on the calendar (2) I can edit an existing class but cannot register for an existing class without getting the above error message. I have made sure that (A) Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure features are enabled at the root site and at

Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.

Migrated from Windows 2000 ASP.NET 1.1 to Windows 2003, ASP.NET 2.0 and had this error. All the forums/MSDN/Blogs says to give Read/Write Access to C:\Windows\Temp folder. Why should we give Full Access to some folder in Production server?? In windows 2000, ASP.NET 2.0 development machine, no files are created when we run crystal reports from aspx pages. Then why in Windows 2003 servers, we need to give rights to temp folder?? It is a simple code

crReportDocument.Load(Server.MapPath("Project.rpt"));

And the code is not storing anything on the disk. Then why should it store the GUID.rpt file in Temp file in Windows 2003 server?? Any alternative is there not to store anything on the disk when Crystal Reports are opened in aspx page??

Access Classes in an aspx page that is in folder in asp.net

I have classes in App_Code:
Connection.cs, ClientData.cs ....

I have a folder Authenticated within it have an aspx page Client.aspx

How do I access the page through Client.aspx ClientData.cs the class, because there is a mistake for me to define the class as I do, please help me!

"Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content"

Our search is not working. The crawl log indicates following error: "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content. (The item was deleted because it was either not found or the crawler was denied access to it.)".

If I check the event viewer, it indicates following error: "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]"

My default content access account is another one than this NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE account. The content access account password is correct. Apparently this content access account is translated to the NETWORK SERVICE account upon a crawl. And this network service account doesn't has the appropriate rights on database level. How can I fix this?

Access Denied with SPControlMode.New and RunWithElevatedPriviliges

I am trying to add MultipleLookupField to a webpart I am developing. It works fine as long as the user has Add permission on the list it points to: here is the code:

private MultipleLookupField _multiplelookupKeywords = new MultipleLookupField();
protected override void CreateChildControls()
{
Guid guidSite = SPContext.Current.Site.ID;
Guid guidWeb = SPContext.Current.Web.ID;
SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
{
    using (SPSite site = new SPSite(guidSite))
    {
        using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(guidWeb))
        {
  SPList listTest;
  listTest = web.Lists[ListName];
  _multiplelookupKeywords.ListId = listTest.ID;
                _multiplelookupKeywords.ControlMode = SPControlMode.New; //Changing this to SPControlMode.Display works fine
                _multiplelookupKeywords.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(web);
