Difference between WSS Central Admin and Central Admin V3

Dear Friends I am new to SharePoint please guide me to know about central administration. Few days back I installed Windows SharePoint Services in my system. After installation, there is one more central administration site for windows SharePoint Services was created in my IIS apart from Central Administration site v3. So my doubt is what is the difference between these two sites. And when we use Central Administration site v3 and when we use the central administration site for windows SharePoint services.   Thanks in advance

SharePoint 2007 Central Admin - blank page, isapimodule error in IIS


I've got a Windows 2008 SP2 server runing x64.

When i try to access the SharePoint Central Admin site, I just get a blank page. No errors in the Windows logs, nothing showing up in the SharePoint logs. The IIS log shows a 500 error.

I enabled Failed Request Tracing for the 500 status code, which gives me the following information:

Web Application list in Central Admin in 2007

Can somebody tell me where Central Admin pulls the data for: Central Administration > Application Management > Web Application List   Somehow, the name for one of my applications has changed, but the URL has remained the same.  The website content itself, the website in IIS, and the content database name all still appear to be intact and nothing has changed there.  Everything seems to be fine, I just happened to notice that the NAME of this one web application has changed and it's really bothering me that it could possibly be pointing to the wrong data.  HELP please!

Cannot find Manage services under Service Application of Central admin

We have Intranet solution based on SharePoint 2010 small farm. Somehow we don't see Manage services on server under the Service Applications in the central admin. Portal seem to work otherwise fine. When we opened the page to browser http://servername:14082/_admin/Server.aspx we received error: Access denied. We have tried to login with Admin, SP_Farm and SP_Admin user, but access denied every time. I checked who have Full user rights in the Central admin. It is SP_Admin Admins of the Sitecollection is SP_admin and Administrator. Why this happens?Kenny_I

SharePoint 2010 Central Admin error

I'm having problems when I open certain things up in Central admin To name a couple each time I open backup or Configure service accounts I get this The specified user or domain group was not found. Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: c9e3eb26-45d8-4f17-985b-54bb178d3184 Date and Time: 7/9/2010 4:51:03 PM For the most part almost everything works in Central admin but for some reason there's a few things that keep throwing this error. how to add custom site collection template in central admin site in SharePoint2010?

hi all, how can we add custom template in cendtral admin in sharepoint 2010? In 2007, we can add by using the stsadm tool addtemplate operation....but 2010 tremplate is saved as a solution file not a .stp file...so how we can add this template in central admin site in SharePoint 2010? Please give me some suggestions...... thanks in advance.....

Cannot login to Sharepoint 2010 central admin

Hi Guys, I am relatively new to MOSS and have started investigating the product. I had MOSS 2010 fully funtioning in a test environment and had an issue with authentication. Each time a user accessed the site for the time, they would be prompted for a username and password. I then came across an article that indicated i should enable Kerberos authentication in Central Admin. I did this but once the configuration completed i could no longer access Central admin. The normal site sites are available and functioning. What could the issue be? thank you,

Central Admin (and all other sites) 404 error

I have a MOSS 2007 installation on Windows Server 2008, all 64-bit.  I still have this setup in test phase but there has been a lot of work put into it and was near ready to start receiving content when this happened.  There is one externally facing site collection using port 443 forwarded through our router and mapped through DNS, as well as the default websites and the central administration site.  The only sites being used are the one on 443 and central admin.  Both sites were working and accessible as of yesterday but now they are not.  Directly before the sites became inaccessible two things happened, so I'm not sure which is the cause.  First, updates were installed, and secondly a blank IIS site was created on port 443 as a test, then was deleted out of IIS manager.  Attempts to log into Central Administration now bring up a 404 error although it does take the credentials and Explorer reports "Website found. Waiting for reply." Attempts to access an externally facing site do the same, the web page displays the message to accept the server certificate as well as the logon dialog box, but then it simply times out and brings up a 404 error.  A number of errors have also been reported in event viewer over the past 24 hours: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------The description for Event ID 27745 from source Windows Share

Central Admin Site got replaced with another site

Hi, My Central admin site got replaced by some other site. I guess someone had restored their site on the central admin site. Is there anyway I can bring back my Central Admin Site? If I run the Sharepoint Configuration Wizard, will it fix it? Thanks,

Backup through Central Admin fails; works using stsadm

Hi, I'm trying to schedule automatic backups of my SharePoint 2007 site.  I wrote a .vbs script that does the backup with the following line:   objShell.Run "cmd /c stsadm.exe -o backup -directory """ & BACKUP_DIR & SITE_DIR & """ -backupmethod full -item ""Farm\Windows SharePoint Services Web Application\SharePoint - SharePointSites"" > """ & CURR_DIR & "log.txt""", 0, True   I ran the vbs script from the command line and everything worked fine.  I used the Windows Task schedule to run the script as a scheduled task.  The script ran fine and the backup completed successfully (according to the logs), but now if I go to the Central Admin page and try to do a restore, I get the error:   The backup/restore job failed. In order to rerun the backup/restore the timer job must be deleted from the Timer Job Definitions page. Failure Message: Backup or restore is already running.   The odd thing is I can do another backup or restore using stsadm at the command line and it works fine.  I can also run the scheduled task to do another backup and that works fine too.  I just can't do any backups or restores from Cetnral Admin anymore.   Any suugestions or ideas? Central Admin Console Fails to Start

I recently uninstalled Sharepoint 3 and reinstalled on WHS (Server 2003). After the second installation the Team Page displayed but I could not get the Central Admin console to come up in the browser to configure the system. Just getting a "Cannot display the webpage" message. The URL is http://servername:32184 which is the same as it was for the first installation where it worked fine. Any ideas of what the issue might be?Thanks.Jerry

Access to Central Admin, but receive error when accessing sites

We have a dev environment where we've reattached the config database and content databases. We can get into Central Admin, but none of the other SharePoint sites. Here is the error I see in the event log, which I believe indicates the cause of the trouble (see below). Any ideas on how to resolve? Thanks! Central Administration not Available, STSADM password reset errors "job-admin-apppool-change" alread


Hi Everyone,

I think I've shot myself in the foot by not properly following set up instructions.

I have a two-fold problem.  Firstly, my Sharepoint Central Administration V4 site is showing Service Not Available.  This seems to be related to the credentials the Central Administration V4 Application Pool - hitting Test Settings within IIS Manager for the site shows an Authentication and Authorization error for the credentials due to a bad password.

My reading indicates that I should run something to the effect of:

%STSADM -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin DOMAIN\username -password <new password as set via AD>

This runs into the following Error message

Error deploying administration application pool credentials. Another deployment may be active. An object of the type Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAdminAppPoolCredentialDeploymentJobDefinition named "job-admin-apppool-change" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerService named "SPTimerV4".  Rename your object or delete the existing object.

Not able to browse Central Admin Page



I had installed SharePoint Server 2007  on windows server 2003 machine. I am able to browse my sites, which were created through the Central Administration.

But now, I am not able to browse the Central Adminstration Page. I have tried to access the page with computer name as well as IP Address. I am getting the error as  - HTTP 500 Internal Server error - Website cannot display the page"

How to rectify this?

Can't authenticate into Central Admin via IE but ok in other browsers on client PCs


This is an odd one - I have a SharePoint 2010 installed on a server and standard Windows authentication is used (via Active Directory). Locally on the server I can access Central Administration web site in IE with no problem.

On other PCs, whenever I try to access central admin in Internet Explorer (7/8) it fails to authenticate. IE quite happily automatically authenticates into the normal sharepoint sites, but not central admin. Yet if I use Firefox, then that quite happily authenticates into Central Admin. I've tried this on quite a few PCs with the same result - IE can't authenticate, Firefox can.

Any idea why this would be? The connection settings in IE appear the same as other browsers (i.e. no proxy).


Blank screen on central admin after initial install


Just installed and have a blank screen after the initial installation

I chose the NTLM version of the install and the server farm rather than all in one for future proofing expansion

The server it is installed on is windows server 2008r2 and our domain is also running r2. The blank screen is the same remotely as it is locally so probably not the loop back issue ive seen mentioned.

I didnt set up an SPN? but I was guessing that was for Kerberos mode?

Use VS Project Module to Deploy Page to Central Admin


Does anyone know if it's possible to use a Visual Studio project Module to provision a page to the Central Admin site when a SITE feature is activated?

If I use  

<Module Name="MirrorAdmin" Url="_admin/Datagility">
    <File Path="MirrorAdmin.aspx" Url="MirrorAdmin.aspx" />

(or similar, I haven't copied and pasted) the file gets deployed to a folder called _admin under the site where my solution gets deployed. Do I need to create a separate solution and deploy it to the admin site or is there something I can use in the Url= element to deploy the page to the correct place?
