Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a list with simple column types like single line of text, Number, Hyperlink,  Picture, choice. When i edit the list in datasheet-view, below error is getting displayed. An unexpected error has occured. Changes to your data cannot be saved. For this error, you can retry or discard your changes. This error is occuring on edit certain rows/columns only. The view is having a simple filter condition. Could anyone check and suggest a solution/workaround for this ? Thanks in advance.

Can Managed Metadata columns be edited in the DataSheet View of a Library or List?

Hi, I like to mass set document properties in a library using DataSheet View, the properties are columns based on Managed MetaData values. When I open the doc library in Datasheet view, those columns become read-only. I made sure the library does not require 'Check Out' and also tested it in other views then the AllItems view. Can someone confirm what is the expected functionality and or if there is a bug?

How to properly configure permissions so users can view, add, edit, and delete list items, but not w

I am trying to figure out how to properly setup security so that it can be configured at the top-level, and then inherited all the way through. Here is what I would like to do: Each user can view, add, edit, and delete list items - but, users cannot modify or delete web part pages. The only way I know how to do this is set Contribute from the top-down, and then go into each Site Pages library and set Read access. The problem is that I have 100 sites, and I was hoping there was a way I could set security at the top, and inherit downward. Rather than having to go into all 100 Site Pages library and set Read access. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Edit in Datasheet view does not work on one SharePoint 2007 farm, works on another.

The ability to edit in datasheet view on one of our environments no longer works.  I've tried different client machines on different builds and regardless of the install every library, list, etc. when attempting to edit in datasheet view shows as read only.  Our other environments those systems work as intended with those same clients. I've searched all over and haven't found anything that helped.  Any ideas?

Viewselector is not working in a custom ASPX list view nor does the custom view display in the list

I created a custom ASPX page to display data from a linked datasource in SharePoint designer. (Let's call it NewView)   After creating the new page I inserted a web part zone then inserted a data view into the zone and attached the default master to the page.   From the linked data source, I added the columns I wanted to display in the data view and added additional columns from the 2nd linked list as a subview.

I copied the following code just after the </WebPartPages:SPProxyWebPartManager> tag and just before the <WebPartPages:WebPartZone tag:

  <table class="ms-menutoolbar" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%">
   <tr>
    <td class="ms-toolbar" nowrap="">
     <SharePoint:NewMenu runat="server"></SharePoint:NewMenu>
    </td>
    <td class="ms-toolbar">|</td>
    <td class="ms-toolbar" nowrap="">
     <SharePoint:ActionsMenu runat="server"></SharePoint:ActionsMenu>

Myself and several other users try to edit cells in a datasheet view and often get the error:  "Edit control creation has failed. You cannot edit cells".  This is an intermittent problem. We are all running Windows7 and Office 2007. Any ideas what causes this?

Using the DataSheet view on a linked list webpart page

I would like to link a master and details list via webpart connection, but show the details list not in the standard list view but rather in the DataSheet view. This would make data entry much more convenient. The idea is that the datasheet would filter by parent-ID (lookup field) and new records would automatically get the same parent-ID. I could not accomplish this without code, so I was wondering whether anyone in the VS section of the forum has attempted anything similar. Thanks for any guidance you can give....

problem while doing edit in datasheet view

Bulk editing issue - list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view

On a sharepoint page i click on 'Actions' tab then select 'Edit in Datasheet'  and i see the following error message

"The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled. "

I am using XP professional, IE 6.02 to access the sharepoint site.

I was hoping that the hot fix KB938888 would fix that issue, but it did not. bulk editing is a nice feature that i would like to use but i have never been able to. The link to export data to Excel works fine.

if anyone has suggestions, thanks in advance

Hey guys I have this showing up on my list that I can not see the Datasheet view. I have added sharepoint as a trusted site, enabled all my active x controls, I have update internet explorer 8, working on windows 7, and have installed office 7. I dont understand whats going on here. It works for the majority of our employees, but not all. Is there something I'm missing.

I've googled the ____ out of this and have seen this issue being talked about around 2007 but nothing recently so im guessing there is an answer out there that I havent found. Please help

Can edit in Datasheet View

I have a user in my site collection who cannot edit a list in Datasheet view. When he tries to make an edit he gets the following error:

"The Web application at filepath.aspx?ShowInGrid=TrueView={long ID number} could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly.  If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application."

Other site Members with access to this list do not experienced this behavior.  Can anyone advise me what to look for?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Issue with People and Groups type of column in datasheet view of shrepoint list.

Hi,

We have a list created in MOSS 2007 which has a column of type people and groups. When we open the list in datasheet view and try to add records for people and groups type of column the column shows only records from All People section of the site collection. I have verified this for another site collection within the same web application where I am able to see all the users though they are not in the All people section of site collection.
Could anyone please let me know if I am missing any setting or if there is any change required to see all the user names in the people and groups type of column in datasheet view.

Thanks ,
Deepak

Edit a Microsoft InfoPath Form in SharePoint Datasheet view

Hello- I created a form in Microsoft InfoPath 2003 then published the form in Microsoft SharePoint 2007. I then populated the form with test data and submitted it. I would like to know if the "Edit in Datasheet" under Actions will allow me to edit a submitted Microsoft InfoPath form in SharePoint.  I have administrative rights to the SharePoint site however when I review my sample submission in datasheet view, it indicates in the right corner, "Read Only. Am I doing something wrong or is there no capability to "Edit in Datasheet" for 2003 InfoPath forms?  I have used both SharePoint and InfoPath for a few years but am no expert by any means.  Is there a simple solution to this question?  Will progamming be involved?  If so, is there a link available to walk me through the process.  The key is that individuals must be able to edit their submitted form using a datasheet view.  If the end user makes any changes within the datasheet view, those changes should also update the original form that was populated.
