Video: SharePoint 2010: Sites as Collections of Pages

Find out how pages in SharePoint 2010 play a key role in the structure of a site. The developer (and the user) now has complete control of the user interface including the placement of Web parts anywhere on the page. (Length: 15:53)

Patch for VS 2010 Find and Replace Dialog Growing

One of the top reported Microsoft Connect issues with VS 2010 has been an issue with the Find and Replace dialog - which grows 16px each time you use it (which is pretty annoying). The Visual Studio team recently released a patch that fixes this issue. You can download and apply it here. Hope this helps, Scott P.S. A few people reported issues installing the patch if they had an older version of the Silverlight 4 tools installed.  If you see an error message that says you need an update to Visual Studio to support Silverlight 4, you can fix it by installing the latest Silverlight 4 tools release.

We upgraded to SharePoint 2010.  I have all the managed properties setup the same on both versions.  I had to modify the query to get past one error I was receiving to SELECT FileExtension, Filename, EffectiveDate, Title, Author, State, PolicyType, ApplicationType, Pol

How to develop Common Content or Application pages in Sharepoint 2010, with respect to the customiz

I have a top level site and subsites (which might be around 10). Where as the top level site represents a common landing page and each sub site represents a client site to which user will be directed upon login. This is a PUBLISHING web site. I need to design to start with common pages across all clients and if there is a need let the client to customize the common page accroding to their need. This is a PUBLISHING site so all these common pages should have Web parts zones with authoring capabilities. What is the best way of achieving this?

Visual Studio 2010, I cannot find the "ManagementObject".

Hi I want to get the seriel number of the local hardrive, now I know some people are going to say this is not possible and client side vs server side, But i read this post and it seems this person got it to work. http://forums.asp.net/t/46697.aspx Now when I try and implement this in Visual Studio 2010, I cannot find the "ManagementObject". I am using the System.Management; in my code as you can see. All I want to do is get the c: drive seriel number when my app is loaded in the browser of that computer. The code below gets the PC NAME and the MAC ADDRESS, all I need now is the c:\ drive seriel number.using System; using System.Management; using System.Net; using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Specialized; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace Blueprints.PC_Name_MacAddress { public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //get the computer name string pc_name = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(Request.ServerVariables["remote_addr"]).HostName; //get the computers mac address string mac_addr = GetMACAddress(); //print the pc name and mac address to the screen Response.Write("pc_name :- &q

Show wiki page library columns on wiki pages- SharePoint 2010

I created a wiki page library in SharePoint 2010 and added a few columns to the library. However, these columns do not show on the actual wiki pages as they did in SharePoint 2007. I looked through the library settings but didn't find anything to turn on this feature. Does anyone know how to do this or if this feature was even included in SharePoint 2010? Thanks.

Visual Studio 2010 can't find the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Server when compiliing, Standalone vs

I'm wondering if we installed Visual Studio correctly cos when we get into Visual Studio 2010 the "Deploy as a Farm Solution" is the only available button option and the "Deploy as a Sandbox Solution" is un-selectable, grayed out, assuming the "Sandbox" solution is the "Standalone" approach? So when we go to compile a Workflow, the error message says the Sharepoint Server is not found" Could this "Deploy as Farm Solution" be a problem when we were instructed to install Sharepoint 2010 Foundation as a "Standalone" install? in other words we're trying to find out why when we go to compile a Workflow in Visual Studio 2010 that it can't find the Sharepoint Server Step 3: Install SharePoint 2010 1.  To install SharePoint Server 2010 or SharePoint Foundation 2010, open a Command Prompt window, and then type the following at the command prompt: On the Choose the installation you want page, click Standalone to install everything on one developer workstation. Thanks very much for any suggestions, ideas or pointers! BobK

VS 2010 could not find database at design time

Hi all, I'm having this problem.... Scenario: C# 2010, WPF, SQL Compact 3.5 SP2. I'm working at a wpf window which loads records from a SQL Compact DB and shows data in textboxes. At runtime everything works perfectly but since this morning (working on it last 2 days) i'm not able to edit the window at DesignTime. As soon as I open the window with the wpf editor I got the error (translating from Italian): "Impossible to find the database. Check the database path. [Data Source = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\thedbfile.sdf]" Now, in settings and app.config I have the connection string which is something like Data Source=|DataDirectory|\thedbfile.sdf I don't understand why and where NOW (only since this afternoon) at Design Time VS look that path for the database, while at RunTime it's ok. Again, I'm using Datasets, and I can preview data, ecc., as said everything is ok except the edit of the window which crash with this error.... thanks

VWD 2010 and Linq to Sql: can't find a query model for...

I have added a linq to sql layer in my MVC 2 application.

This is the code I am using:

using (ProductPortalDataContext ctx = new ProductPortalDataContext())
var Title = from aps in ProductPortal.Models.AppSettingsView
                            where aps.LanguageID = Lang
                            select aps.WebSiteTitle;

It says to be unable to find a quey model for AppSettings view and then says "where not found".

Tried googling, nothing came up. Tried searching here(first two pages) and nothing that seemed relevant popped up.

But the best of all, created a new ASP.NET applicatio, imported the model using Linq to SQL and it compiled!

No idea what I am doing wrong... hints?

(some time later...)

Ok, I tried adding a button and a label to the asp.net application j

I set the page directive as enableSessionState=&quo
