VS 2010 Web.config Transformations

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello,I'm working with the web.config transformation and it is really sweet!  I've run into one transform that I'm having trouble with and it's due to xmlns attributes in the parent node. Here is the xml that I want to transform (from my web.config):<?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <!-- ... --> <spring> <objects xmlns="http://www.springframework.net" xmlns:db="http://www.springframework.net/database"> <object id="myService" type="Spring.Web.Services.WebServiceProxyFactory, Spring.Services"> <property name="ServiceUri" value="http://servername/myService.asmx"/> <property name="ServiceInterface" value="IMyService, ServiceInterfaces.Common"/> </object> </objects> </spring> </configuration>Here is my transformation (from my Web.Debug.config)<?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration xmlns:xdt="http://schemas.microsoft.com/XML-Document-Transform"> <!-- ... --> <spring> <objects xmlns="http://www.springframework.net" xmlns:db="http://www.springframework.net/database"> <object id="myService" type="Spring.Web.Services.WebServiceProxyFactory, Spring.Services"> <property name=&quo

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET AJAX
.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:

Building WCF appl in VS C# 2010 Express doesn't provide app.config when New Proj specified

The project type is not supported by this installation. ??! ** IAm I missing something in my VS 2010 C# Express application? If so, someone please tell me how to resolve this problem.   Thanks in advance . . . TomJTom Johnson

web.config connection string problem within VisualStudio 2010 to point to SQL Server 2008 R2 Develop

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

<connectionstrings>
<add name="ApplicationServices" c

Stuck installing Sharepoint 2010 - Config Wizard saying Cannot connect to database master

Hi all

I have setup 2 servers in hyper-v.
SERVER-SQL = SQL 2008 R2
and
SERVER-SHP = Sharepoint 2010
both running on windows server 2008 R2.
Both servers are joined to the same domain, have fixed ip addresses and can ping each other.

When I get to the part in Sharepoint 2010 setup where I'm runnng "Sharepoint Products Configuration Wizard" where I specify the database server and name and username and password I get the following error which I can't get past "Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at SERVER-SQL. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it."

I have read the following link and followed it but the problem remains
http://andreasglaser.net/post/2009/11/18/Installing-SharePoint-Server-2010-on-Windows-Server-2008-R2-and-SQL-Server-2008-R2-Part-5-Administrative-and-service-accounts.aspx

I don't see where it is falling over as the username and password is the domain administrator one (have also tried the spAdmin) mentioned to setup in the above link. And it says at the notes at the top of the page that if the database (SharePoint_Co

web.config transformations on build/debug

Hi!

I really like the new transformation feature for the web.config. It seems to work when I do "Build deployment package" but not when I just want to locally start the debugging using the green arrow. It just uses the web.config without processing the Web.Debug.config. I can prove that because in web.config I have debug="false" with a transformation in Web.Debug.config so that it gets true but everytime VS asks if it should modify the web.config to enable debugging which it should've done automatically with the following transformation:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration xmlns:xdt="http://schemas.microsoft.com/XML-Document-Transform">
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true" xdt:Transform="SetAttributes(debug)" />
</system.web>
</configuration>

Am I missing something here? I used to work with NAnt to modify/create the web.config as a pre-build event but I thought that I wouldn't need it anymore. Am I wrong? The project is a freshly created asp.net mvc 2 web application.

Thanks for your time!

FAST Search Server 2010 Config Error - ValidationException 1034: Username or domain is incorrect.

Hi,

I've seen other related threads and I've tried all the tricks in getting through the post-setup configuration, but I can't get by the "ValidationException 1034: Username or domain is incorrect." error message taken from the FAST psconfig log. I've tried both the wizard and the psconfig, but get the same results. I'm attempting to deploy the single server (stand-alone) on a single x64 box, under ws2008 SP2, w/SP2010, the server is also the domain controller, and i've been passing the FQDN to the post-setup script as described in the FAST deployment document (see log below):

Setting of sharepoint 2010 custom WCF service "web.config" file for both HTTP and HTTPS

Hi,

        I have created a custom SharePoint 2010 WCF service that is deployed to 14\ISAPI\MYService folder. The issue i am facing is that this service should be accessible from all Web applications, that can be HTTPS (i.e. SSL) enabled or normal HTTP. If i am making in web.config file for web application that has HTTPS enabled, then it fails for Web applications having normal HTTP configuration. My requirement is that when this WCF service is deployed it should accessible from all web applications that can be HTTPS or HTTP both. I went through number of blogs and tried whatever option they had suggested but none of them worked for me :(. Here are some of the blog that i tried:-

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Architecture Tools in VSTS 2010

Designing new functionality on existing applications can be daunting. There are always differences between the original design and the current implementation.

The new Architecture tools within Visual Studio Team System 2010 help you understand the application you have, design new functionality you need, and validate that your design and your implementation do not deviate.

VB and C# enhancements in VS 2010

In Visual Studio 2010, we've made several enhancements to our two most popular languages, Visual Basic and C#, to give programmers all the tools they need to build great software no matter which language they prefer.

The Visual Basic team focused on adding productivity features to the language so developers can get more done in fewer lines of code. The most common customer request for Visual Basic is to remove the underscore ("_") character when breaking a code statement across multiple lines in most cases. Visual Basic 10 introduces implicit line continuation, which removes the need for the underscore character in most cases.

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

VS 2010 and .NET 4 Series

VS 2010 and .NET 4 are the next major releases of our developer tools and framework. Together they contain a ton of new functionality and improvements that I think you'll really like, and which make building applications of all types easier, faster and better. The improvements range from nice small tweaks to major, major enhancements - and can be found across the .NET Framework, the languages, and the IDE.

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.
