Unable to drag data source to control to bind

I have a simple test application following the directions from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd465159.aspx .  When I attempt to drag the data source onto the design surface I get the following error:

Cannot add the control to the design surface or bind to the control because the type TestApp.AdventureWorksEntities cannot be resolved.  Please try to build the project or add necessary assembly references.

The project as been built and the data source is in the same namespace.  I did a search for this error and the only hit I found was here, and mentioned Tools->Options->Extension Manager, 'Load per use extensions...'.  This option is checked.  I've tried unchecking and restarted with the same behavior.

Any ideas?

What is the best approach to bind data to ReportViewer control?

I have 2 approaches to bind data to ReportViewer control. Which one is better? Could you please give me some advice?

Approach 1: Using SqlDataAdapter

Dim dt As DataTable = New DataTable
Dim conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(connString)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(sql, conn)
    Dim adapter As New SqlDataAdapter(cmd)
Catch ex As Exception
End Try

Dim ds As New ReportDataSource(dataSourceName, dt)

Approach 2: Using SqlDataReader

Dim dt As New DataTable()
Dim conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(connString)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(sql, conn)
Dim reader As SqlDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()

Catch ex As Exception
End Try

Dim ds As New ReportDataSource(dataSourceName, dt)

GridView control to show master-child or master-slave data, written in c#, asp.net

I previously made a master slave datagrid using Visual Studio 2003 .Net (original article) that would allow users to show data to clients using collapse and expand features. These features however did not carry over to gridview for many users. This tutorial will explaing how to create a collapsable/expandable gridview in frameworks 2.0 and higher

Easily manipulate data with the GridView control in ASP.NET 2.0

Last week, I introduced ASP.NET 2.0's GridView data control and covered the basics of using it. This week, I go a step further by going into the details of working with the data contained in the control. This includes viewing, editing, and deleting data. Thankfully, the GridView control makes it easy to utilize these features. Before diving into these topics, I begin with an examination of the different field types supported by the GridView control.

Sorting Data in a GridView Web Server Control

The GridView control provides built-in sorting functionality without requiring any coding. You can further customize the sort functionality of the GridView control by using custom SortExpression property values for columns as well as by using the Sorting and Sorted events

Persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control

Hi All,

I am trying to persist data in a dynamically populated ListBox in a user control. Here are the details

I have a user control which contains a a listBox and button. On Page_Load of user control I am populating the ListBox control with some values. On Click of button, I am trying to fetch the values which I have selected in ListBox. Though this seems very simple and straight forward I am unable to fetch values.

My Page_Load Function

void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

My Click Function

Protected Void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

       string strValue = listBox.SelectedValue

I have placed brake point at Page_Load and on click function, I am seeing that the moment the breakpoin

Extreme ASP.NET: The Only Data-binding Control You'll Ever Need

Fritz Onion demonstrates how the ListView control in ASP.NET 3.5 makes data-binding tasks easier with support for styling with CSS, flexible pagination, and a full complement of sorting, inserting, deleting, and updating features.

Cutting Edge: Custom Data Control Fields

In ASP. NET 2. 0, the GridView and DetailsView controls are designed to work together. They don't merely provide complementary services, they also share a number of helper classes and components. The output of the GridView control consists of a sequence of rows, each with a fixed number of columns.

.NET Reflection: Dynamically Bind Your Data Layer to Stored Procedures and SQL Commands Using .NET M

One major inconvenience of using SQL stored procedures from code is having to match type information. You have to write long wrapper functions around the procedures just to expose the data types. In the .NET Framework, however, the reflection services of the System.Reflection namespace allow you to query rich metadata that describe data types. This article explains how to use reflection in .NET to end your stored procedure nightmares. The author creates four custom classes, including one that generates a SQLCommand object based on the metadata of a method. Using this library, you'll be on your way to automating the generation of stored procedures.

Wizard Control textbox data is lost

I'm using a wizard contol with several textbox fields. I have two textbox fields disabled (textbox19 and textbox20)because I don't want the user to change the values that are calculated from the other textboxes (see javascript below). I do this with javascript on the clientside. My problem occurs when the user is in STEP2 and goes back to STEP1 the values in the disabled fields are gone. Is there a way to fix this? I would also like to perform a validation on textbox20 but I haven't been able to do that with the textbox disabled. How can I do validations on a field that is disabled? I've tried enabling the fields and using readonly = true but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions? // Client Side script to do calculations <script type="text/javascript">       function calculateSubTotal() {      var txt6 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox6.ClientID %>');     var txt12 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox12.ClientID %>');     var txt18 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox18.ClientID %>');     var txt14 = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox14.ClientID %>');     var txtSubTotal = document.getElementById('<%= TextBox19.Cl
