Hi I have a maintenance job to backup and cleanup sharepoint database in sql 2008 r2 server daily at 2:00 AM.  This operation has been running for a copy weeks now.  We have just setup dbmail a day ago.   We have setup a few maintenance job and added "exec sp_send_dbmail @recipients='xyz@xyz.com', @subject='Sharepoint backup plan completed at SQL', @body='Sharepoint backup completed'" as the last step of the maintenance plan. I do recieve the email properly but our helpdesk recieve an email too for the full maintenance job log.  I checked the sql setup for all jobs and I cannot found anywhere that we know we are sending the maintenance log to helpdesk.  Any suggestion? below is part of the log/email: **************************************************** To: helpdesk Subject: SQL Server Message   Microsoft(R) Server Maintenance Utility (Unicode) Version 10.50.1600 Report was generated on "sql". SharePoint 2010 email enabled list with workflow has incorrect User ID when items are emailed to the

I have set up an approval workflow for a document library that has email enabled. Emails come into the document library fine, however, if an item is emailed to the library the workflow kicks off with the initiator as "System Account" rather than the person who submitted the email. This makes the error of "The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the e-mail has a valid recipient." come up. If someone submits a document directly to the library (by logging into sharepoint and submitting) everything works fine. The person submitting by email is a valid sharepoint user and the profile shows the correct email address. The Created by and Modified by fields show the correct person (rather than System Account), it's only the workflow User ID that shows incorrectly if document is emailed to library. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Can this be done? Comments on a task emailed to a different user

Currently I am using the built-in Approval workflow for a document library.  When a document is rejected, or a change is requested, I want the comments that the approver enters in the Task window Comments box to be sent to a user not on the list of approvers.

Eg:  Bill uploads a document.  Sally approves the document.  Sally requests a change.  Bill gets notified of Sally's change request.  I want Tom to get notified also and to be able to read the requested change comments.

Normally, the comments are just provided for the person who initiates the task by uploading the document.

Is there any way to grab these comments and add a separate workflow, or customize the built-in Approval workflow that would send these comments to a different user - I'd be happy to even send them to a different approver on the list of approvers.

Thanks in advance!

How to determine the user that completed a task when the task is assigned to a group?

I am using collect data from a user in a custom workflow.   I am assigning it to a group.   Where is the user stored that actually completes the task?

SharePoint tasks can be completed by any user.

Hi all,
I have a workflow made in SPD that assigns tasks to users just fine, but the problem is any user can go into the task and edit and complete it.  I tried all sorts of different permissions but the only one that seems to work is changing permissions on a per task level.  Is there any persmission level on the root that allows only the assigned user to complete and edit the task or is there a way to automatically have the task switch it's permissions to only let the assigned user edit it?

Thank you for your help on this clearly noobish question.

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

Building Re-Usable ASP.NET User Control and Page Libraries with VS 2008

I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.

The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.

Thanks,

How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

Hello!-

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi,

How can I get all the textboxes inside a create user wizard control using getElementsByTagName().

<script type="text/javascript">
        function addLoadEvent(func) {
            var oldonload = window.onload;
            if (typeof window.onload != 'function') {
                window.onload = func;
            } else {
                window.onload = function() {
                    oldonload();

                inputs[i].onfocus = function() {
                    this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "inline";
                }
                inputs[i].onblur = function() {
                    this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "none";
                }
            }
        }
        addLoadEvent(prepareInputsForHints);

UI Datepicker and web user controls

Hi,

I have developed an application using the Master-Detail pattern described in this Matt Berseth article.

The only difference between Matt's article and me is that I am using a FormView object in place of a DetailsView.

Everything works fine except that the formview object, in my case it's inside a user control and I can't figure out how to use the jquery datepicker UI plugin.

I have tried to put the script block for the datepicker either in the aspx page as well as inside the user control but in both cases the calendar does not come up when the related textbox get the focus.

Any suggestion on how to work with the datepicker inside an ascx?

thanks in advance!

form feild hints are not displaying for textboxses inside create user wizard?

Hi,

I'm using following JS code to display input hint box besides the textbox whenever that asp.net textbox receives focus.

I'm doing this for a registration form and all of the textboxes are inside the asp.net create user wizard control.

<script type="text/javascript">
function addLoadEvent(func) {
  var oldonload = window.onload;
  if (typeof window.onload != 'function') {
    window.onload = func;
  } else {
    window.onload = function() {
      oldonload();
      func();
    }
  }
}

function prepareInputsForHints() {
	var inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("TextBox");
	for (var i=0; i<inputs.length; i++){
		// test to see if the hint span exists first
		if (inputs[i].parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0]) {
			// the span exists! on focus, show the hint
			inputs[i].onfocus = function () {
				this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "inline";
			}
			// when the cursor moves away from the field, hide the hint
			inputs[i].onblur = function () {
				this.parentNode.getElementsByTagName("span")[0].style.display = "none";
			}
		}
	}
addLoadEvent(prepareInputsForHints);
</script>
span.

Linq - add data to database then email user the details

Hi all

I'm not sure how to structure the code for this but what I want to do is be able to add data to a database, and once this has completed successfully, then email the user to say the details have been added successfully to the database.

I need to:

1. Check that the relevant data has been added into the database then

2. Email the details of the relevant data when completed.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Laura
