Ignoring Blank member names in SSAS

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi all, I was wondering if there is a quick and easy way to ignore any member name that has a blank name?  Currently I have a cube where I get (Blank) as the member name which has a value associated to it and I need to hide/delete these. I didnt design the underlying fact and dimension tables so wanted to know if there is a quick way within SSAS/MDX to say something like "If member name is (Blank) then ignore. Thanks in advance for you help.

SSAS 2008 - Date Member Property gets converted from NULL to (Blank)

Hello everyone,

I have this cube with a dimension of investment deals.  The "Deal" member has a attribute named "Latest Acquisition Date" where this date can be null for some deals.  Once the cube is processed, the null dates always get converted to "(blank)" either in BIDS cube browser or in Excel.  This happens no matter what I do to the NullProcessing property of this date attribute.

Is there any way to have SSAS display [NULL] (as in nothing at all) instead of "(blank)" ?

create a calculated member in a cube in SSAS

Hello   I’m trying to create a calculated member in a cube in SSAS and was hoping someone could help.   What I’m looking to do is count the number of occurrences of a value in a field.  I have Status field that contains New, Renewals and Enquiries and another field that contains a count, the problem I have and the reason for this query is the count is set to 0 for Enquiries.   The tSQL equivalent would be something like...   Select Date, Status , count(Status) From aTable Where Status = ‘ENQ’   And to summarise, what I’m looking to do would look something like the below   Date Status Count Commission Apr-10 NEW 1 100 May-10 NEW 1 100 May-10 REN 1 50 Apr-10 ENQ 0 0 May-10 ENQ 0 0 Jun-10 REN 1 50 May-10 NEW 1 100 Just looking at the ENQ by month. Date Count of ENQ     Apr-10 1     May-10 1     Jun-10 0       Any help gratefully received.

Documents linking to physical cluster member names

I have a WSS 3.0 SP2 environment with two front-end servers behind a load balancer.  For some reason, when a user tries to open a document, they get routed directly to one of the cluster member servers using their physical name, instead of the DNS entry hosted on the load balancer.  I believe this is the cause of a second login prompt each time a user attempts to open a document.  Any ideas?

"The member was not found when the string was parsed - SSAS 2008/PivotTable

    I have defined an Additional Action to show me some detailed records when I'm using a PivotTable against an SSAS 2008 cube.  However, the problem is intermittent.  It seems to be complaining about a datetime field - yet this datetime field isn't even being requested as one of the drillthrough columns.

    The full message is "Query (187,1319) The member '&[2010-07-30T15:31:44:263333] was not found in the cube when the string [Final Criminal Count Charge].[Load Datetime].[All].&[2010-07-30T15:31:44.263333], was parsed."

   Any assistance would be gratefully accepted!!

SSAS Data Member Issue

Hi all,

I am using SQL 2005 - SSAS- Calculations tab to create data member. I am using two numeric columns from the fact table to create a data member, after that I use calculation properties "associated measure group' to link with the fact table. Now it is showing in perspective tab at the bottom.

But for some reason it's NOT SHOWING IN THE FACT TABLE in  browser tab where I am viewing some resutls.

Please let me know what I did wrong? Or if I missed something?

SSAS - performance penalty standard dimension without custom member formulas VS standard dimension w

Hi all

I was wondering if there is a big performance penalty if one introduces custom member formulas to a standard dimension.

incorrect attribute member names

i'm seeing incorrect attribute member names in my degenerate dimensions.

the dsv looks like this:

SO records, AR records, and Customer records are all associated with a Location.  SO and AR records are also associated with a Customer.  in some cases, the SO or AR record LocationKey is different from the LocationKey of the customer record that a SO or AR record is associated with.

when i create a cube and dimensions based on this dsv, it seems like initially everything is fine.  however, inevitably i eventually see the following:

the AR and SO degenerate dimensions each have a Location attribute, with the fact table LocationKey column as the key, and the Location table LocationName column as the Name.  at some point, the attribute member names will begin to appear as the Location name that is associated with the LocationKey from the Customer table, rather than the appropriate fact table (AR or SO).  it seems that this begins to happen after the relational database is updated. that process generally consists of deleting all fact table rows and repopulating.  when this problem appears, "Process full" on dimensions, partitions, measure groups, or the cube does not seem to resolve the problem.

i witness this error

SSAS - Use simultaneously unary operator and custom member formula in a PC (Parent-Child) dimension

Hi all

I was wondering (even this might a very bad idea from a logical and performance perspective) if it is possible to use unary operator and custom member formula simultaneously? Until now I have used unary operator but now some new calculation can't be expressed using unary operator. The idea is just to add the new members calculation to custom member formulas. Is it possible to make cohabitate both. If I had to switch all unary operators to customer member formulas what would be the equivalent expression for +, - , ~?

thanks for your answer

SSAS 2005 - All Member

Hi All,

I've 2 product hierarchies and sales volume should be calculated differently for both the hierarchies.

e.g H1 : Sales volume = vol and H2 : Sales volume = vol * 2.5.

SCOPE ( DESCENDANTS([Product].[H1].[All Product]),
        [MEASURES].[*Sales Volume]);
    THIS = [MEASURES].[*Sales Volume];

SCOPE ( DESCENDANTS([Product].[H2].[All Product]),
        [MEASURES].[*Sales Volume]);
    THIS = [MEASURES].[*Sales Volume] * 2.5;

Except for "All" level everything else works fine. How do I make "All member show the correct agg value?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks very much,

SSAS Calculated Member not working as expected in a SSRS report

Dear forum guys, I have a simple cube to analyze my customer's sales. I have a Time Dimension, a Product Dimension (with a few hierarchys) and a couple measures (sales and purchase amounts).

I also have defined a few Calculated Members, in particular the average sales and purchase amount over the last 12 months from the selected month.

I need to show the results in a SSRS Report: the user must select a month and the report needs to show the sales and purchase amount of the selected month and the average of the previous 12 months (both for sales and purchases).

Everything works perfectly if I test the cube using the Cube Browser or Excel 2007 as a client.

When I define the SSRS Report I cannot get to work with the calculated members (the average): I get strange numbers which are much higher than the real numbers.

I've tried both Matrix and Table reports.

Can anyone suggest me what I'm doing wrong: I think this should be a very common mistake.

Best regards

Process Update does not reflect change in case of dimension member in SSAS 2008.

Process Update does not reflect change in case of dimension member in SSAS 2008. We can replicated this issue in Adventure Works 2008 with below steps.

1.  Customer Name Aaron Allen is in Title case both in Adventure Works SQL 2008 Data Mart as well as in SSAS 2008.

2.  Change Customer Name Aaron Allen to Upper case in Adventure Works SQL Data Mart.

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Creating A Stored Procedure Which Searches Team Names

I'm have on my web page a text search box which I want users to type in there favourite football team and this will display a gridview of the teams with the replica shirts I offer.

This is where I thought about creating a stored procedure to carry out this task.

I looked online for ideas but I not found anything as yet.

If anyone done anything similar to my request please let me know.

dynamically change column names in Crystal reports

I need to develop 3 pages.

On the first page user defines atmost 7 column names to be displayed on the report. I'm saving these names in a Sql DB table 'Columns' with Column_Nm and Column_ID as Table columns.

On the second page I'm retrieving column_Nm from the table and displaying them on the page so that the user enters the data. This data is saved in another table 'Summary' with the Columns column1 through column7.

on the 3rd page I need to show a report of 'Summary' table.

How do I dynamically replace column1 through column7 names with that of 'Column_Nm' on the report?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
