Hiding rows/columns completely in SSRS tablix even when they have data

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I have several columns and rows in my tablix.  I don't want to see all of them at once.  I am using a parameter that controls the visibility of the columns or rows of the tablix.  The issue is that it hides but the white space is left.  How do i take out that white space?

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Best method for hiding a tablix when no data exists

Hello, I am using SSRS 2008. We currently have a number of reports which often have several tables stacked one above the other. In many cases the data supplying one or more of these individual tables returns no rows. Rather than inform the user of this using the no rows message options we simply hide the table since there is no reason for displaying the column and field labels with empty data as this is a waste of space depending on the report in question. In our SSRS2005 reports we often checked the primary key of the tables dataset by comparing it to NOTHING, example: Visability: Hidden = IIF(primary_key = NOTHING, True, False) But when we converted these reports from 2005 to 2008 this became unstable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. What I am hoping to find out is the most stable, if not Microsoft-recommended, method for hiding a tablix(table, matrix or rectangle) if there is no data? I have seen the use of the rowcount option, but I would like to determine if this is the preferred practice before implementing it accross the board on our reports. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Does the 2008 R2 Data Alignment in the columns (Domain Scope) work with multiple tablix's

Does the 2008 R2 Data Alignment in the columns (Domain Scope) work with multiple tablix's or only with one Tablix with different groups?

I have been trying to use it for a report that has 3 tablixs (the same dataset and same format) but it doesnt seem to work. All the examples i find are for a single tablix.

Anyone know?

Switch columns and rows in SSRS

I have a report with static columns that looks something like this:

Date                      Column 1             Column2                           Column30

Reporting Services 2008: Columns get shifted on Tablix after hiding a field.

I have a report implemented on SSRS 2005 that for the purpose of hiding the toggle sign (+/-) when there is no detail data has an expression on the Hidden property of the text box.

Now when migrating to 2008, the table has been automatically upgraded to a tablix with the undesired behavior that, when a field is hidden on a row, the remaining fields are shifted to the left to occupy the space of the hidden field.

This happens only when the report is rendered on the web. On Visual Studio it works as in 2005.

Is there a way to avoid this kind of shifting? Why will I want to render a field on a space designated to the field on the left that it may not even fit?

How to print more than 15 columns of data in SSRS 2008?

I have a report with 15 columns of data (each column is approximately 1inch~2inch), when I preview the report and click PRINT icon (which is very next to refresh icon) then save it as Microsoft xps document writer, it shows only first 5 columns of data, even data is truncated at end of each page in .xps.

I have selected A4 paper type in report properties, So please assist me how to print all 15 columns (along with header and footer) of data ? If I change the width and height in report properties then it affects rendering to PDF, DOC etc ..

Any suggestion is also welcome

Adding Multiple Columns and Rows in GridView without using a Database

How to change text in columns in SSRS?

I need to create a complex report and export it to Excel.

In the first column header, text is displayed as "Hide Daily Columns", but I need the text to change as "Unhide Daily columns" when I click on it and when the text changes the columns under "daily" header (I have 3 columns under this header) present in the report shud be hidden and only weekly columns shud be visible. Any ideas please. I am new to SSRS and tried out many ways but didn't get it.

Entity Data Model and database view returning the same columns as there are in a table

When adding a stored procedure into the Entity Data Model I can select whether the procedure returns a scalar, a (new) complex type or one of the entity types I already defined.

How do I do something similar for a view?

I mean assuming I have a view like this

CREATE VIEW FilteredFoos as SELECT Foo.* FROM Foo join ... WHERE ...

(that is a view that implements some involved filtering, but returns all columns from one table) how do I add it to the project so that I can use the entity set, but get the Foo objects, not some new FilteredFoo objects.

var foos = myDB.FilteredFoos.Include("Bar").ToList();

foreach (Foo foo in foos) { ...

Thanks, Jenda

How to process data AFTER page is completely loaded for the user?

I have some logging that has to be done, which are some database update or inserts.

However this logging is of no importance to the user, so I only want to process the data/logs after the page is completed for the user.
As of now, if I process the data while the page is loading, I go from 1.4 to 2.0 speed (server side time processing of code), which is quite a bit comparing it is of no use to the user.

So I want this code only executed after that the page is complete.

I've been checking out Ajax, async pages etc, but the problem is it still gets executed before the page is rendered to the client, which means the client will have to wait longer then it is not being processed.

I've been checking out Threadpool.queueBackgroundWorker, however if I get it correct, this will still be executed before the page is shown to the user, as it has to complete before the prerender.

Then I thought about creating a new thread, and do the processing there, which would not have my page waiting to complete the data/logging.
However when I have 100 or 200 users loading pages at the same time, then that would mean I would be creating 200 threads on those loads, which I doubt will be good for performance. So if I want to solve this, I would have to create my own threadpool and only assign for example a max of 40 threads to it which can pr

How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View

I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

So here is a link to my graphic example uploaded to my blog area: http://lindachapman.blogspot.com/  or just the image here: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_aB01ue__NvQ/TGL42MOvrGI/AAAAAAAAAA4/c3xP4uCy4BU/s1600/Scrolling.png

Library - Fill Columns with data from email

I have an inbound email enabled Library.  The Library has several columns created for it.  I would like to be able to send an email into the Library and have these columns filled from information in the email.  Is this possible using WSS 3.0?  What are the basic steps?  If I understand SharePoint well enough, I'm guessing is that I have to include the columns as Metadata in the body of the email and then assign this Metadata to the appropriate Library columns when new email is uploaded to the Library.

Tooltip on SSRS Chart Bars and Columns

Is there any way to implement tooltip on bars and column of charts in sql reporting servies?

Join 2 flat file data flows - retain unmatched rows

I have two data flows from two separate flat files. They may contain matching IDs (account number), in this case specific data from each flow should be used to create one row. When there is no match, the rows would stand on their own. At the end of the flow, I need both flows combined into one flow, with one record for each key record (account number). If I were able to use a look-up, I could easily union the no-match data flow back into the match data flow and have the desired result. I cannot use a look-up, since the source is flat files, but this is exactly the functionality I am trying to achieve. Solutions I want to avoid: staging tables, and cache transformations. Any ideas are appreciated.

Data Mining solution - SSRS Problem

I have created a Data Mining - Time Series solution and I am getting proper results from SSAS(Mining Model prediction tab) & SQL Management Studio query. However when I try to create an report using SSRS, In the field where I am expecting the predicted value, I am getting "#Error" Any suggestions as why this is happening.

Data validation for datetime parameter in SSRS

Hi,   I wanted to know more about validation of SSRS parameters. I have a simple report which has a parameter called startdate of DateTime datatype. The datetime parameter in SSRS takes manual input as well. So, the user can enter any junk value. I want to ensure that the input parameter is in correct format and I want to display an error msg when the format is incorrect. My report has the following VB code for validation:   Public Function Validate( ByVal startdate As String) As BooleanIf IsDate(startdate) = True Then Return TrueElse Return FalseEnd IfEnd Function   And my report has a textbox which has the expression property set to; =Code.Validate(Parameters!startdate.Value) the textbox on the report has to display if the entered date is valid or not.   But, when i enter an erroneous date, SSRS doesn't render the report and throws a generic error. This happens even before the code written for validating the parameter executes.   Also couldn't find a way to disable the manual input for the datetime parameter. Even that would solve the problem.   Another alternative was to make the startdate parameter as string, but i want the calendar control button to be provided for the user.

return only rows - no columns

Hi all, I'm using the below query to retrieve one vendor information. I dont want the columns and I need the query to return me one row with no column header. what would be the syntax for that. I'm trying to use this on SAP BW system - if that really matters. I tried tweaking the code, but SAP didnt seem to like it and the error message isnt helpful either. The code below works just fine - but I want to get rid of the column header SELECT [Measures].MEMBERS ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY [0VENDOR].[LEVEL01].MEMBERS DIMENSION PROPERTIES [0VENDOR].[20VENDOR] ON ROWS FROM [OPOMCHS0/ZQT_GPO_PO_CHNG_REP_SUMM_3]WHERE[0VENDOR].[ABCD] Please help. Thanks in advance.
